Posted Jul 7/12 - Greatest Game in Franchise History?
The Langley-Aldergrove Dodgers followed up their 2 impressive victories Friday (3-2 ov SOMBA Tigers (Penticton) and 22-3 over PBF Redbirds (Calgary)) with what many in the crowd thought to be the greatest game in franchise history.  The Dodgers were facing a strong and highly motivated squad in the form of the U15 DOW Baseball (of Seattle).  The Americans were in a win or go home situation and eventually prevailed 3-2, but only after a game that will be remembered by all the participants and many of the parents and assembled crowd for uears to come.  There was masterful pitching, multiple hits, sparkling defense and plenty of drama.

The game was scoreless through 6 innings due strong pitching by both starters. Dodger hurler James Hardy was economical with his pitches and had the DOW players guessing.  Although he ended up with a No Decision, he was simply superb and used his defense to advantage.  Particularly impressive defensive plays were put in by Spencer Barkes who used his gun of an arm to throw out a DOW base runner at home (from deep in left field)and Mitchell Taylor who was a wall behind the plate.

The Dodgers finally broke the deadlock in the top of the 7th on a clutch 2-out RBI single by Matthew Selinger after back to back singles by Yi-Fan and Yi-An Pan and a walk by Bailey Roope. Unfortunately, the Americans clawed back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame.  In extra innings both teams threatened off the relievers, but we're thwarted by some great defensive defensive plays.  Indeed, the bases loaded bunt by a Dow player that resulted in a run down between home and third followed by a run down between 2nd and third to end the bottom of the 8th will not soon be forgotten.

With the 2 hour time limit reached after 8, the international tie break format was employed and the Dodgers were able to push one across in the 9th to take the lead a second time.  However, the boys from Redmond were able to match that run with one of their own and finally eked out an extra run to end the contest.

Other notables on the day were John Lipp with a towering double to the wall in the 4th inning as well as Yi-Fan Pan and Jaron Jeske who each came off the bench to earn pitch hit singles.

Next Up: The Dodgers are awaiting the result of th remaining Saturday games to see who and when they 'll play Sunday.
