Posted Jan 17/12 - Three in double-figure scoring as undefeated and No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville posts 58-42 District 16-5 win over Round Rock
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers used an 18-8 run in the final nine minutes of the game and some strong defense to post a 58-42 victory over District 16-5A opponent Round Rock Tuesday night. The Panthers, ranked No. 15 nationally in the most recent USA Today Super 25 and MaxPreps weekly national polls, improve to 31-0 overall and to 7-0 in district competition.

Junior guard Taylor Ross led the way with a team-highs of 16 points and four assists, while sophomore post Jaden Sturm had a career-high 15 points. Senior forward Itiana Taylor logged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Taylor and junior forward Diana Omozee (7 points, 10 rebounds) led the way down the stretch defensively. With Pflugerville up 44-36 with 4:38 to go, Taylor grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on the putback. Fouled on the play, she hit her free throw for the three-point play and pushed the lead to 11, 47-36. In the final quarter, Omozee had three rebounds, three blocks and a steal while Taylor registered three points, two rebounds and three steals.

Omozee finished with a game-high five blocks while Taylor had a game-best six steals.

The 31-game win streak for the Panthers is the second-longest in program history. The record is 32 consecutive wins, set by the 1994 Panther team - coached by current head coach Nancy Walling  - which went 32-0 en route to the UIL State Tournament final four. That Panther team lost in the state semifinals to finish 32-1.

Round Rock, forced into 23 turnovers, drops to 15-10 overall and to 3-4 in district play. Senior guard Arica Adams netted a game-high 22 points to lead the Dragons.

This was the second meeting between these two squads who squared off on December 19 with the Panthers winning 43-32.

Pflugerville returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20 when it hosts District opponent Stony Point in a 7:30 p.m. varsity game at Panther Gym. Earlier this season, Pflugerville stopped Stony Point twice - once in the title game of the Bowie (Austin) Tournament, 56-28 on Dec. 6 before playing three days later to kick off District play. That game was won by P'ville, 66-43.

Pflugerville JV and Freshman Gold teams roll to wins over Round Rock

The Panthers' junior varsity team stayed undefeated with a 34-23 win over the Round Rock JV squad while the Panthers' freshman Gold (A) team posted a 61-35 victory over its Dragon counterparts.

The Pflugerville JV is now 24-0 as sophomore post Tiara Pitts netted 11 points to lead the way. The freshman Gold improved to 19-2 behind guard Alyssa Washington's game-best 22 points.

The two squads return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at home against Stony Point with the with the freshman Gold game at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6 p.m. JV contest.
