| AUSTIN, Texas-- With game-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds from senior post Itiana Taylor, Pflugerville cruised to a 73-23 victory over Vandergrift Friday night to advance to the semifinals of the Greater Austin Area Tournament on Saturday. The Panthers, 7-0, will face local opponent Anderson HS in Saturday's (Nov. 20) 10 a.m. semifinals. The quarterfinal, semifinal and title games are taking place at McNeil High School, the tourney's host school. The other semifinal, also at 10 a.m., is between Victoria East and Connally. The two semifinal winners advance to Saturday's 4 p.m. Gold Division championship game, while the third-place contest takes place at 2:30 p.m., with all games at McNeil HS. Anderson defeated Bowie 52-38 in its quarterfinal game. In the Pflugerville-Vandergrift game, the Panthers' strong rebounding and fastbreak offense vaulted them to a 30-4 lead after one quarter. Taylor scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds in that eight-minute span. Impressively, the Panthers dished out 21 assists - a season high - on 29 made field goals. Vandergrift, now 7-3, was led by eight points from guard Sophia Duffield. Joining Taylor in double-figure scoring were senior guard Ari Booth (13 points), senior guard Jasmyn Booker (10) and junior forward Diana Omozee (10). Junior post Jonelle Smith (nine points) also had a game-best five steals. |
