Online Registration is Now Open!

In person registration September 8 & 9 at Winkler Arena from 6:00 – 8:00pm both nights

All players are encouraged to register online.

New registrants please bring copy of birth certificate to in-person registration.

New for 2015/16 is a reduced rate for Initiation of $99 and an exemption from concession booth duty for the year

Payments can be made online by credit card or in person by cheque or cash.

Registration deadline is September 9.

Online registration is now open for the 2015-2016 Winkler Minor Hockey season!

A few points to help you navigate through the site:

Username: You will need to register as a user on the site. Please click on “click here to create an account” and follow the prompts.
Registration: Click on “Register a Participant” and enter the requested information. If your son or daughter has played in Winkler Minor Hockey before they will be listed.
Required Fields: Required information is marked with an *.
Position: If you do not know the position your son or daughter will play and for Initiation and Novice, please list “Forward”.
Waivers: Please remember to check “I Agree” to the Parental Consent and to the Hockey Canada Waiver statement. Failure to do so may prohibit your son or daughter in playing this season.
Payment options:
- We now accept credit card as payment. If you register and pay by credit card, your registration is complete and you do not need to attend the in-person registration.
- For those paying by cash or cheque, please register your son or daughter through the online system and bring your payment to the in-person registration (Date TBD).
Multiple Registrations: If you have more than one son or daughter playing, please register them at the same time to avoid paying the $10 AGM fee multiple times. If you register them at the same time the system will only charge you the $10 once.

Posted Dec 13/12 - Coaches Mentorship Clinic

Winkler Minor hockey will be hosting a mentorship clinic. Brian McElroy will be coming out to run a session on "practice planning and puck control". It will be held on Wednesday December 19th from 6 -10 (ish) you will be on the ice from 6:30 - 8:30 and there will be a classroom session as well. It is a great idea to come out and refresh something you may have learnt at some point in the past or to learn something new that will help you plan your practices. We would love to see all of you come out for this. If you have any questions you can call Chad at 362-0304 or email him at chadh@gveag.com.

And new this year is the option of paying for registration with two payments. Pay half the registration total at registration and leave a post dated cheque for December 1, 2012 for the remaining amount.

WMHA will be holding registration for the 2011/2012 hockey season in the Winkler Arena foyer Sept. 6 & 7, 2011 6:00pm-8:00pm both nights. First time registrants please bring copy of birth certificate, or a copy can be made at registration. For first time registrants, you can pick up a copy of the registration form at the Winkler Recreation office or print it from the Handouts tab on the left side of the screen. Players that were registered with WMHA last season will have their registration forms pre-printed and will be available for pick up at the registration tables. Please read them over, note any changes that need be made and sign it before taking them to the payment table.

As per Pembina Valley Minor Hockey, please note that Miami has agreed to host a AA Bantam hockey team for players from Winkler, Morden and Carman. They are currenlty sorting out details as far as ice time, scheduling, coaching and concessions. As you may know, Hockey Canada has mandated two relatively significant changes for the 2015-2016 hockey season. These two items include a Respect in Sport for Parents initiative and the requirement for all minor hockey associations to register players through their Hockey Canada Online Registration System.

The Respect in Sport for Parents motion is outlined as follows:

“Certification of this online educational course for parents must be obtained by at least one parent or legal guardian of any minor hockey player on a Hockey Manitoba roster by November 1st. Should certification not be obtained by November 1st, the minor hockey player will be ineligible to participate in any hockey Manitoba sanctioned activity until one parent or legal guardian is certified.”

The Hockey Canada Online Registration System and how it affects Winkler Minor Hockey

Each player in Winkler Minor Hockey must now be registered through the Hockey Canada Online Registration System. This change, coupled with the requirement to get our registration numbers for the upcoming season in at an earlier time frame, has necessitated that we change our registration process for Winkler Minor Hockey. The registration process now requires that we each register our children through the Hockey Canada Online Registration System. This is something of a time sensitive issue, and the sooner the player is registered, the easier it is for Winkler Minor and Pembina Valley Minor Hockey in many organizational capacities. For your convenience and, while not mandatory, there is a payment option on the website for the upcoming season if you so choose. We will continue to have a registration night prior to the start of the season for those deciding later to sign up. Payment for a player being registered online now will also be accepted at that time. Information and tips on the registration process will be provided by Dave Schellenberg, Registrar of Winker Minor Hockey.

Also: The RIS Parent Program is separate from the RIS Coach/Manager certification and must be completed regardless of whether you have taken the RIS Coach certification in the past. It is supposed to take about 1 hour to complete and the cost is $12 plus GST. Please make sure to add all of your children (who will be registering for hockey) to your RIS Parent Program profile.

WMHA picture day will be November 12th. We will be taking pictures in the Winker Flyers dressing room. A little bit different this year- players will not be wearing full equipment. Only team jersey and gloves and hockey stick. No other equipment is needed. Because dressing rooms are not needed, players need to enter through the Flyers door in the north west corner for their pictures. Order forms will be emailed to team managers to distribute to their team.

Conditioning sessions will be running September 18th-23rd. The Novice group is being divided for all conditioning and evaluation ice times into Major age kids and Minor age kids. If your Novice player is born in 2004, he/she is on the ice for the Novice 2004 time slots. The same is for the players born in 2005. They are on the ice for the Novice 2005 time slots for conditioning evaluations
Tryouts will be held September 24th-29th.

Posted Aug 16/11 - Hockey/Power Skating Camp Offered in Winkler

Hey All,

After hearing that the Can Power program in Winkler has decided not to run a program this year, I have been approached by a few different people to offer a “hockey” alternative so that our kids can get a jumpstart on the season. So, after some thought I have decided to take on this challenge. I will be offering a 5 week program with 10 ice times for 4 different age groups. I will be offering a novice, atom, peewee and a high performance for bantam/midget players. The sessions will start the week of August 29^th and run through until the last week in September. Each session will be run in Winkler at the Winkler Arena and will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for 1 hour each. (session times may vary but each group will get 2 or 3 sessions per week depending on the week). I also may be adding a pre-novice group after minor hockey registration if there is enough interest.

My goal will be to help your kids and my kids learn and practice proper skating techniques, along with developing puck handling skills, while getting some conditioning as a bonus. Each session will be broken into 20 minutes of skating, 20 minutes of puck handling and 20 minutes of different games that will be used to condition the kids. (This is a guideline and may change depending on the different group’s needs) As this is a very recent development, I have not had a chance to line up any other help yet. However, I anticipate having some help from Winkler Minor Hockey coaches, some ex Winkler Flyers and also some current Plum Coulee Xpress, Winkler Flyers and Morden Redskin players. I have had quite a bit of experience coaching, not only for WMH but I have also have run summer ice sessions for the last 3 years and prior to that I helped run the Winkler Bible Camp hockey school. I have been involved in coaching hockey either at hockey camps, minor hockey and senior hockey for the last 15 years and feel that I have a lot of knowledge that I would like to pass on to the younger age groups. The cost for the camp will be $125 per kid per kid however if you have more than 1 kid from your family signed up then it would only be $100 per kid. I am opening this up to kids that play minor hockey in Winkler until Wednesday August 24, 2011 and then it will become open to any kids from the Pembina Valley that wish to come. Once I have confirmed the number of kids attending I will send an email out to all that have registered with the schedule for the whole camp. Space will be limited to 25 skaters and 4 goalies per session. However, if the demand exceeds that, then I may consider running 2 groups in the same age group. Winkler Minor Hockey will be accepting applications for the position of booth mangers for the 2010-2011 hockey season. This may involve a couple, or a pair of like-minded individuals. Preference will be given to those with a child(ren) in minor hockey. This is a 1 year term position, which may be re-applied for on a yearly basis. For a detailed description of what the job duties and responsibilities are, please see “Booth Managers Job Description” under the handouts section of our website. This program will provide all registered five year old players across Canada with their first hockey helmet compliments of Chevrolet. Chevrolet has always been committed to deploying leading safety innovations, and that commitment now includes keeping young players safe while learning the sport for the first time. We will be keeping Canadians safe, both on and off the ice.

All five-year-olds who register to play hockey in the 2011/2012 season (up to 23,000 based on last year) will be eligible to receive a free Bauer helmet from Chevrolet.
