Longtime coach, scorekeeper, umpire, and friend of the entire Little League, Sam Reid passed away, Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam's family and friends. We have and always will appreciate the lives Sam touched with his time on this Earth and time spent in our organization. You will be dearly missed, but we know you are in a much better place. See ya soon friend!!!
On behalf of the Smith County Little League Team, we would like to thank all the players, coaches, parents, book keepers, and umpires for all their hard work this past year. We have had an amazing year of Little League baseball in Smith County. We have crowned three new league champions: Citizens Bank (ML), Heartland Realty & Auction Pirates (LL), and the Sanderson Funeral Home Twins (SL). Also, we had 5-6 All Star teams make it to the state tournament, meaning that we brought home five District Championships. Also, we had our first group to ever reach a state championship game this year, our 15-16 year old Senior League All Stars coached by Jacob Woodard, Clete Underwood, and Richard McClanahan. They brought home the league's first ever state runner-up position. Parents we would like to thank you for giving our coaches and staff the opportunity to serve this county this past spring and summer. We know it takes commitment from both you and your sons to make this happen and we greatly appreciate it. Also, we would like to give a big shout out and thank you to our concession stand workers. These ladies do so much for our community and deserve their credit. To the people who deal with the most headache, our book keepers and field managers, we say a huge THANK YOU. You men have done an excellent job getting things turned into the paper and keeping the county posted on its local leagues. Also, our fields looked amazing this year!!!! Finally, words can not express everything our league president and his wife do for our community and county. Slick and Wanda deserve more credit than anyone this year, they've attended almost every teams game at least twice this year and have supported every all star team throughout the stretch. From all the paperwork to late nights at the park, you two are truly our biggest blessings. Also, thanks to Smith County Mayor Michael Nesbitt for the new lights on our Little League field. He also has planned on getting all scoreboards refinished before the next season and some field maintenance as well. It's been a great year, and we are sad to see it come to an end but March tryouts are just a couple of months away! Until next year, forever SCLL!!!!
The Smith County 11-12 year old All Stars journey for a state title came to crushing hault this past Friday evening in Winchester, TN. The South Nashville All Stars struck quick from the get go as they took advantage of many free passes and good pitches. Smith county finished 3rd place in the state tournament after the 13-6 defeat by South Nashville. We are very proud of these young men and all their accomplishments! They all have very good careers ahead of them and many of us wait to see what they can do in Senior League next year. Congratulations and thank you for representing Smith County!!!! GO SMITH COUNTY!!!
The Smith County Senior League All Stars fought hard but their journey has come to an end in crushing fashion. The Morristown All Stars jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st as Smith County stranded the bases loaded in the top half of the inning. Smith County again couldnt push a run across in the 3rd & 4th innings as they stranded runners on 2nd & 3rd in consecutive innings.Smith County's loan run came in the top of the 5th as Tyler Atwood scored from third on a single to right field. Tyler Branham took a tough loss for the Seniors. The 16 year old in his last game of league play threw a complete game and allowed only 2 earned runs to cross the plate. To all of the 16 year olds, thank you so much for your heart and determination you've shown the past 4 years. Your talents and hearts will be dearly missed. To all the parents and assistant coaches thank you for your hard work and belief in this group of young men. To all of Smith County, thanks for all your support through the district and state tournaments. Best wishes, Coach Woodard.
With two wins over the New Tazewell All Stars & East Nashville All Stars, the Smith County SL All Stars have crossed the hump many Smith County All Star teams have waited to cross for years by netting a spot in the 2013 Senior League State Championship Game. The game is to be held in Lafayette, TN starting at 5:30 vs the Morristown All Stars. Good luck and boys we are so proud of you for your hard work and commitment!
The Smith County 8U & 10-11 year old all stars were dealt quick exits in their respective state tournament appearances. The 8U all stars kicked off action this past Saturday with 2 big wins but were then dealt consecutive losses by Columbia and Maryville. They finished 5th in the state. The 10-11 year olds were dealt two quick losses from Spring Hill and Clarksville Northwest sending them home early as well. Congrats to the players, coaches, and fans for making it this far. We are very proud of you! Go Smith County!!!
