Posted Jun 4/10 - Pirates vs. Blazers

This game was exciting from the first pitch down to the last out!!

The Pirates put 3 runs up from the first 3 batters. The first inning almost saw the entire line up make it to the plate!!  The Pirates hit the ball hard and made the Blazers work hard for every out!  The Pirates put up 3 more runs in the 7th inning by stealing around the bases.  With Nick up to bat,2 outs and a 3-2 count, Blake stole home for an added insurance run.

Defensively, Nick paved the way with a fine pitching performance, striking out 5 of the 12 batters he faced the first three innings!!  The defense went to work and helped Nick to keep a scoreless game until the 4th inning!! Blake came in to close out the game in the late innings.  Nick and Blake had a combined 3 pick offs!!

The Blazers started to make a come back in the 7th inning with 2 men on base and 1 out. The two runs scored bringing the score to 9-4, with 1 man on first. The runner stole 2nd base and was hit to third on a single by the next batter. The 5th batter of the inning came up to bat with a man on first and a man on third. Blake stepped off and got the runner on 1st into a run down.  The boys were able to get him out and then Raul made a fantastic throw into Dylan covering home with the runner from 3rd trying to score. Dylan caught the ball and tagged out the runner ending the game with the double play!!!

Posted Jun 4/10 - Pirates vs. Vipers
Saturday was a hot day for ball!!  The Pirate boys came out to play even in the heat of the morning.  They put up 2 runs quickly then the defense got down to business. The Vipers were held scoreless for 2 of the 5 innings. Their batters only had 2 at bats a piece thanks to some fine pitching and defensive work.  We had a runner picked off and only gave up 3 walks!!

Posted May 25/10 - Pirates vs. Reds

This was an exciting offensive and defensive game!! The Pirates held the Reds to only 5 hits!!

Defensively, Jake had a diving catch at 1st base. He also had a hard hit ball to his right which pulled him away from the base for the out but Blake was there to catch the toss from Jake.  Blake pitched the complete 6 innings stirking out 6 batters!!

Offensively, Raul hit an out of the park home run! Those boys on the adjoing field must be getting tired of Nick and Raul hitting balls onto their field!!  Nick had a 4-4 night at the plate!!  We recorded a total of 15 stolen bases, 14 hits and 11 RBIs!! Each player scored at least one time! The boys may need new shoes before the end of the season with all the running their doing around the base paths!!

Keep up the great job.. at Kirkwood you are 5-0 and Ballwin 2-2!!

Posted May 24/10 - Pirates vs. Cardinals

Going into this game the boys knew they had something to prove! They lost their home opener to the Cardinals 14-12! The team knew they could play with this team and beat this team it was just about getting the job done this time around.

Raul and Nick let their defense do the work by giving the hitters something to hit but letting the defense do their job and help get the outs.  It was a true team effort.  The pitchers held their team to 5 runs.

The Pirates were eager to get some runs after coming off the fantastic win against the Cardinals. At the end of  the 2nd they led the game 3-2. It remained 4-3 until the 6th inning when the Cardinals scored but the Pirates wouldn't be satisfied with a 1 run lead. They tacked on 2 more and finished the game with a 7-5 victory over the Cardinals!!

Posted May 22/10 - Pirates vs. Wolverines
The top story of the day was the fact that we played against former Cardinal catcher Mike Matheny's team!! It was a great game. While the Pirates hit the ball, they were scoreless through the first 3 innings. The Wolverines jumped out to a 5 - 0 lead. The Pirates' bats woke up and got to work! The team had back to back doubles in the 3rd by Raul and Jake. Jordan's bat did damage by his two hits. The team had tied the score by the 5th inning then took the lead in the 6th.  The defense is what really kept the team in the game.  The outfield of Adam, Jordan, Logan & Dylan had a combined total of 5 outs.  Nick and Austin pitched a stellar game.  A recorded 7 strike outs to keep those Wolverine bats quiet.  At the end of the game, each boy got to shake Mike Matheny's hand, so I;m not sure which was more exciting winning the game against his team or shaking his hand!!  Another great job Pirate boys!!!

Posted May 19/10 - Pirates vs. Bulldogs

It was a hit parade last night as the Pirates beat the Bulldogs 14-6.  The first two innings had the fans wondering if the Pirates were going to adjust to the pitching and show their mighty bat power. Once the Pirate players started hitting they did not stop!!

Nick had an out of the park round tripper!! Adam kept knocking the cover off the ball with each at bat!! The whole delivered in stellar preformance while on offense. The police will probably be at our next game as we kept stealing those bases. We had a record 16 steals last night!!!

Our defense had some nice plays. Dylan had some nice hard hits to him at 2nd, which he fielded nicely. Jacob laid out for a line drive to 1st base.  He stopped it and then it was a foot race to 1st!!  Jack almost had a diving catch out in the outfield. It was a great hustle!!  Blake had a great pitching performance and Adam came in to close out the game. They had combined 6 strikeouts.

Posted May 14/10 - Prior Games

Pirates vs. Cardinals

We lost our first game at Ballwin against the Cardinals 12-14 but we put together some good innings. One included an out of the park homerun by Raul!! We hit pretty well, had a run down and a picked off runner.  We were able to steal 10 bases of those 4 were home!  Our outfielders did a great job of relaying the ball in and making some great catches.  We never gave up and kept on fighting.  Great job boys, can't wait for the next game!!!

Pirates vs. Eagles

Our first game at Kirkwood heralds a WIN!!! Great job tonight boys!!  Pirates 11 - Eagles 2.  We had solid pitching from each pitcher, awesome offense - 10 hits, 10 stolen bases & 10 RBIs!! Ten must have been our lucky number tonight!!  Way to welcome Logan to the team with a win.....

Pirates vs.Power

Our second game in the Ballwin league was against the Power.  While we showed power in our bats with 17 hits, they showed power in their ability to out walk us and walk away with the win 15-14.  We had some pick offs and some nice catches out in the outfield with Adam, Austin, Jordan & Logan holding taking care of business.  We are certainly ready to meet them again and overpower them with both our offense and defense combination.

Pirates vs. Bears

Our second game at Kirkwood was against the Bears.  We were ready to play since we had been getting canceled games due to rain!! We certainly showed it that second inning, as we batted around the lineup and scored 9 runs.  Our defense held the team to only 2 hits. Nick had a stellar performance on the mound.  We are doing a great job a picking off those runners and throwing out the would be base stealers.

Pirates vs. Bombers

At Kirkwood the wins keep on coming our way!!!  We faced off with the Bombers on Monday and came out victorious.  It may have gotten a little tense in the late innings but we were able to come together to get those final 3 outs. The final score was Pirates 12 – Bears 7.  Raul did a great job of keeping the hitters hitless.  Blake had a great diving stop at 1st while Raul ran to cover 1st to get the

out.  We had a runner picked off and Jacob threw out a base stealer!  Adam, Jacob, Mitchell, Blake and Raul had some nice hard hits which went for extra bases. Nicholas had a great hard hit foul ball which would have been an out of the parker if it had been fair!!  Great job Pirates and let’s bring home another win on Friday!!!
