Jonas Coyes started the first game of the day on the mound and went a solid 5 innings giving up only 1 earned run.  Markus Blair came in relief after Jonas Coyes who was injured on a line drive.  Markus was dominate on the mound in the 2 innings he pitched striking out 4 batters and earning himself a save.  Offensively, Garrett Perlette, Cole Schneider and Brett Semeniuk all contributed with multi hit games.  The Baseball Academy took advantage on the base paths stealing 4 bases and playing pretty good defense picking off runners at first base and at second base to secure a win for Jonas Coyes and the Academy.  In the second game Derek Shedden threw a 68 pitch complete game striking out 6 batters and staying in control all game.  Derek had outstanding off - speed control all game and kept the Indians off balance only surrendering 2 hits on the day.  Derek was matched by the Tri-Cities Indians pitcher who was just as effective only allowing 2 hits on the day and the Baseball Academy fell 2-0 in a game that took only 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.

Posted Apr 23/10 - Down to the Wire in Game #1 of Spring Training against Cloverdale

Ryan Anderson pitched well early on in the contest throwing lots of strikes and was pretty sharp for his first outing of the year in Spring Training.  Ryan threw 5-1/3 innings and was very effective inducing ground balls and striking out four Cloverdale Bantam AAA batters.  Markus Blair came in relief and pitched out of a jam in the 6th inning striking out both the batters he faced.  In the 7th inning the first base runner reached on an error after a lead off strike out, a walk was awarded to the next batter and the game winning run was surrendered on a double that was hit in the right center gap.  The defense was a little rusty in the early part of the game and some errors put the academy down 5-0 in the third inning.  The offense bounced back in the fourth inning when Russell Rockwell and Reid Marcichiw started the inning with walks.  The 4 runs that scored in the inning were batted in on hits from Garrett Perlette, Matthew Courneya and Nathan Wedgewood.  The Baseball Academy also had a four run 6th inning that included runs being scored by Jonas Coyes, Garrett Perlette, Matthew Courneya and Ashton Martin as a pinch runner.  Cole Schneider knocked in what would have been the game winning run in the top of the 7th inning on a single that scored Jonas Coyes.  Game #2 was cancelled after 1 inning of play due to rain.  The Baseball Academy is back on the field tomorrow with games against Burnaby (Note game times have changed with Game #1 starting at 3:00pm and game #2 starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game)

Posted Feb 24/10 - Burke Seifrit Enjoying the Spot Light at College

Former FX Academy member Burke Seifrit a member of the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes bullpen has the inside on Bryce Harper who is a teammate and also a projected first round selection in the up-coming MLB amateur draft.  “Bryce hit a ball over our Green Monster (centre field scoreboard) against Yavapai,” Seifrit said Friday before playing No. 2 ranked Chipola Indians at Morse Stadium in Henderson, Nevada.  “It was huge, musta been 450 feet.” Seifrit said the Coyotes season opener against Arizona Western was a sellout.
“I read in the paper there were 2,000 fans, 100 scouts,” Seifrit said. “It’s exciting, he does some amazing things.”  It is a unique situaiton as Bryce should be in grade 12 but decided to forego his senior year in High School to get drafted by enrolling at the College this past fall.  Harper is not only projected as a first round pick but expected to go first over-all in the draft.  This of course brings a lot of attention to the program and should help Burke get more exposure. Seifrit got his feet wet at the college level a week ago in a 6-3 loss to Cochise. He pitched a scoreless inning, striking out a pair.  “I was a little nervous, but it was nice to get out of the way, it took a while to get used to the heat,” Seifrit said, “it was the best decision I could have made.”
