Four Lakers, well 3 and Plato draftee Tony Wischnack (we'll call him a Laker), took home hardware for their exceptional play in the 2011 State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Joining Tony with a .375 batting average was catcher/DH Jeremy Salden, 2nd baseman Ronnie Olson .333 batting average who led the team with 10 hits and 3 doubles, and Chris Bullis .292 batting average, pitched 26.1 innings with an ERA of 1.03, 2 wins 1 loss. Following Saturday's 10-1 win over Plato, the Lakers advanced Sunday to play the Winsted Wildcats. The Wildcats had a Crow River season Record of 19-1. Their only loss was an 8-1 decision to the Lakers early in the year, the Wildcats followed that up with a 6-1 season win and a 3-0 victory over the Lakers that gave them higher seeding in the Section 7C tournment.
Those 2 losses were not enough to slow the Lakers down though. Behind the pitching of Chris Bullis, the Lakers down 2-0 entering the 5th inning scored their 3 runs on a walk to Jeff Chrest, followed by Ben Smothers being hit by a pitch, then a Ronnie Olson's walk. Bullis then drove a shot down the left field line scoring Chrest and Smothers leaving Olson standing at third. Moments later with 2 out hit one in the hole where Winsted's second baseman made a diving grab, but his throw was off line and Olson trotted across home with what turned out to be the winning run.
