The Athletics would like to congratulate the Bantam AA team on hosting this year's Provincals, also to the Peewee and Bantam A on making the provincals ,the Peewee A made the semi's.Hopefully these great achievements can be built on for next year. For this to happen AMBA needs to work on making it's website far more user friendly and encourage people to put pictures and news items up , allow ALL divisions to interact with it.The whole year had the same  4 pictures BORING , give people a reason to visit the website.

This tournament is a very special one for all of you that have played on Devon's diamond, it's Aldergrove's way of celebrating Devon's life and his love of Baseball. My older son Jeremy played with Devon at Peewee and Justin has played for us this year.I strongly suggest that those of you that can make it this weekend head up to see some great Junior's mens games  at APP and support a very worthwhile cause the Canadian Cancer Society.

Posted Jun 21/12 - The Mission Playoffs
The playoffs were actually a very good indication of our season, despite the players knowing well in advance when we would be playing we only had 1 game were everyone was there. So one should expect to get out of it what one puts in and that is exactly what happened. The top of our lineup went missing and our pitching let us down, unfortunately following the Misssion game we had to change tactics and try and beat a Ridge Meadows team with 7 AAA players on it , or at least that is what we were told by another  Ridge Meadows Coach. We limited them to 5 runs 2 of which were home runs one of which could have been avoided had we seen who lead off the third. So along comes Sunday the playoffs had been decided in our pool and we rally to win.Could we have made the semi finals yes if we had the commitment from all the players but that was how the season went.

Posted Jun 10/12 - Last Home Game
This was the last home game of the Season and the last game for 5 of our third year players most of whom had been playing for 13 years  with Doug and Alex playing 2 years of AAA elsewhere it was nice to come home to finish .For Jason who was with Doug and Alex on the Peewee AAA team of 2007 and then went onto the Westerns and for Jamie and Justin it marks the end of playing with their school friends.I hope to see them playing with the Junior Men's next year when time permits.

The Athletics would like to thank Mission Baseball Association for the hosting this year's playoffs ,despite having to deal with wet playing conditions, a schedule that seemed to change daily and an absentee Coordinator.Good Luck to you in the second leg of prolonged playoffs.

Posted Jun 3/12 - The Night After Game
I think that in order to make the third year players feel better the whole team played in slow motion, the one run we scored in the first was done using mirrors and for the next 4 innings we let Chilliwack build up a lead, to be fair to our pitchers the offense was not giving them any support. It took a bases loaded situation in the top of the fourth to wake the boys up somewhat. They were now down 8 to 1 to a team with only 8 players. Then the rally started and after chasing their starting pitcher we put up 3 runs and then in the bottom of the sixth finally started to hit plating 6 runs. Our pitching in the sixth and seventh threw a total of 13 pitches to close the deal.If this had been a stronger opponent we would have been mercied.

Posted Jun 2/12 - Abbotsford Game?
This was another game playing a team that had played a lot recently and had nothing left, that being said the Athletics took advantage of the situation and put the game away in the first inning scoring 14 runs,it also gave our pitching staff the opportunity to use some arms that had not pitched in a while. The score would have been higher had we not started station to station in the first. This game probably had some of the longest hit singles you will ever see.there was a good play from right field gunning out the batter trying to score, offensively we had 27 hits .

Posted May 27/12 - RM Athletics Rematch
The practice looked more like a wake as the Players tried to wake up, we started slow not scoring in the top of the first and allowing 1 in the bottom which could have been more but for a good catch in right field. The second was scoreless , then in the third the Players woke up and combined timely hits with aggressive base running. The team had  11 hits and  8 stolen bases including a straight steal of home. There was another good catch in right field and we  only commited 1 error , our pitchers threw  65 pitches over 5 innings for the mercy.

Posted May 24/12 - Athletics prevail on the Bouncy Bouncy Mounds
Hopefully we have seen the last of the Bouncy Bouncy Mounds, anyway with a short bench which actually got smaller during the game we took advantage of the numerous errors our hosts gave up to get base runners and then steal at will. This game could have been over in 5 innings but unfortunately we let them back in but only briefly.

Posted May 24/12 - Back to Back Losses to the Expos
Playing one of the Best Team's in the League is tough on any occasion but when you factor in Grad events and our ever increasing injuries it makes the task even harder. The advantage is that should we see them in the playoffs they will wonder who we are.In the first game we had just as many Hits as Errors and only struckout 1, in the return match we had 2 call ups and walked 7 here ends the lesson.

Posted May 17/12 - Athletics Take Advantage of Tired Team
If you just arrived at the beginning of the game and saw Chilliwack chase our starting pitcher before we had even recorded an out you might have thought we were the tired team, anyway the change in pitching worked and although we gave up 4 runs in the top of the first we countered with 11 in our half.At this point the decision was taken to run station to station and not steal, this was Chilliwack's 7th game in 9 nights which is insane at any level. They just looked tired and were happy to see it end in 5 innings. We combined for 15 hits including our first home run and 2 triples.

Posted May 17/12 - Athletics Vanquish the Braves
This was the rematch of the Water Polo Match but with a far different outcome, to start with there were only 6 runs scored in total, we threw 72 less pitches and reduced our BB's from 12 to 0,we manufactured 2 pick offs at second base on the same player in the same inning. This was a solid team effort and even though the braves 3rd base coach tried everything to upset our starter it did not work.

Posted May 13/12 - Team Win over Abbotsford 2
This was probably our best TEAM game so far , after our at bat in the first with three solid hits which were all caught .Abbotsford's half saw them score one run which should have been two except for their runner leaving third early on a sacrifice and our 2nd baseman getting the tag put on third for the out.Our starting pitching kept us in it and then the second half of our batting order caught fire combining for 8 of our season high 18 hits.We then built up our lead to finish the game in 6 innings.

Posted May 13/12 - Ridge Meadows Game
This was a game that we might have won had we started to play before the fourth inning , unfortunately we did not .Our bench was full of sore arms and we added to that during the game with a sore ankle. We managed to force Rigde to use their back up pitcher and had immediate success but could not get all the runs back.

Posted May 6/12 - The home of the Bouncy Bouncy mounds
This was a game with 2 parts , the first being Mission scoring 6 runs and the second when the Athletics scored 3 runs.Playing with a short bench we used 2 of our fresher arms ,only problem neither had played on the unique mounds in Mission. We started off with a solid single but were not able to get him home, over the next 3 innings Mission scored 6 runs while we did not score. However in the fourth inning we came alive both offensively and defensively, there was a great put out at second on a relay from the outfield as well as a great catch in center. Our pitching then got the upper hand and we outscored them 3 to 1 in the final 3 innings.Overall a good performance by all.

Posted May 6/12 - The Coquitlam Moody Comeback
This was the game we wanted as we were not sure if we would have a team for the Sunday game. The 15 minute extra arrival time seemed to help and will be in place from now on with any 7 pm start games. We did not start all that well making infield throwing errors in the first enabling them to take the lead, we managed to get one back in the bottom of the first. There was no more scoring until the fourth when Coquitlam added 2 more runs ,we managed to get 1.We need bought in our secret weapon who had not pitched in over 2 years.Unfortunately in the top of the sixth he found out that a fastball belt high in the middle of the plate goes an awful long way .Then came the bottom of the sixth when the flood gates opened, timely hits alongwith hard base running and some defensive miscues contributed to the home side scoring 6 runs.In the top of the seventh we had another 2 strikeouts to help seal the victory.

Posted Apr 30/12 - Battle of the Aldergrove's
It must have been an omen that the Camera had no Memory card, again the pre game warm up  showed which team came to play and it was not the Athletics. The game started okay with the team grabbing a 2 run lead, however the bottom of the first showed why fielding practices are important. We managed to hold on to the lead until the bottom of the fourth when the changes and errors caught up with us, give the Giants credit they took full advantage and the game was over in the sixth.

Posted Apr 29/12 - Good Team win v Abbotsford
Playing in less than ideal weather conditions the Athletics first at bat did not produce any runs although we did manage to injure one of our players ,Abbotsford took the lead on an unearned run in the bottom of the first. After that our staring pitching shut them down and we took the lead in  the third inning. Our patience at the plate paid off as Abbotsford had to change pitchers due to a high pitch count, we then took advantage of their relief pitchers to pull away.Strong base running and timely hittting from the second half of our line up put the game away.I should mention there was also one excellent cricket shot late in the game.

Posted Apr 22/12 - Prince George Game
Fearing the worst as I don't think many of the team know what morning is it was great to see everyone at the park ahead of time, even Parker who did NOT see the 21st No Hitter in MLB history. This was a great game and the Athletics played solid ball with great pitching and some outstanding defensive plays. They took the lead early and had numerous opportunities to increase it ,playing with 14 Players yes 14 the Athletics shut PG down and  in the 5  th we added another run.The thing with good teams is that they always hang around and PG struck back in the 6th when our defense finally gave them the opening and they took full advantage. The final score was not really a sign of how good a game this was.

Posted Apr 22/12 - Ridge Meadows Royals Game
This time the non warm up effort cost us, added to this a starting line up that looked more like the " Walking Dead" which was due to  a lack of numbers and injuries which increased as the game went on.The royals took the lead early and despite  a late charge we were unable to overcome the lead they had built up.Perhaps the team was thinking about the early game on Sunday.

Posted Apr 22/12 - Mid Valley Sox Game
This was the game we wanted ,although you would never have know it by the Players warming up. In the top of the first the Athletics gave up 5 runs despite solid pitching, then our bats went to work and playing with a short bench which we did almost all weekend we took the lead and never looked back ending the game in 5 innings.

The first game of the Ridge Meadows Tournament was played in less than ideal circumstances and give the pplayers credit they did try and play, however Mother Nature won out when in the 3rd inning the Umpires called the game for safety reasons and a tie was declared.Next up our League game against the Mid Valley Sox a team with some familar faces on it from the AAA team last year.

Posted Apr 14/12 - Solid Win versus Abbotsford
The weather was slightly different compared to the Ridge Meadows game plus the Players had their new hats. The team played well in all aspects which showed up on the scoreboard,we had no errors on defense and only allowed 2 hits. Our infielders made some good plays and our relays in were solid. We threw 101 less pitches than our last game. The hitting was good and our line up produced 12 hits including some ropes to center .Great way to get our first victory of the season.

The Playing conditions did not help this game but that being said the Athletics did manage to score 16 runs which would win most games , unfortunately they fell one short. The offense had a total of 11 RBI's and the pitching struck out 11 .Both teams combined for an amazing 364 pitches with 9 pitchers being used. This was a game that with more practice time the Athletics would have won, next up Abbotsford 2.

Posted Apr 8/12 - Home Opener
We had perfect weather for our home opener facing a Ridge Meadows team wearing Green and Yellow !!.We started well giving up no runs in the top of the first and then took the lead with a leadoff walk followed by 2 stolen bases and then an over throw at third.Overall our pitching was solid considering the limited practices we have had, we struckout 8 batters and only gave up 4 earned runs .We had 6 stolen bases which could easily have been more had our players picked up the signals, also 4 hits including a solid double.Playing with a short bench and being the first time we had played together the signs were very encouraging.
