The playoff round has been set after the final game of the round robin portion of the tournament finished Wednesday night. The final game between the Quebec and the Host Team was suspended due to lightning and heavy rain, and was ultimately called an official game by the organizers.
The game that was suspended Tuesday night because of rain between the Mill Woods White Sox and Confederation Park Cubs resumed tonight at Kirkness Park. The Cubs had a 3-1 lead when played stopped. When the game resumed at Kirkness Park on Wednesday, Mill Woods scored one on the third inning to make it 3-2. The score remained 3-2 until the last inning when the Sox scored a run in the sixth inning to send it to extra innings. Both teams hit the ball well and made outstanding defensive plays in the extra frames. That is until Sox catcher Levi Muth slid safe into home in the bottom of the eighth after the Cubs catcher could not make the tag from the throw the second baseman made off a sharply hit ground ball to end a very exciting and well played game.
It is with great sadness that the local baseball community learned of the passing of long-time volunteer, Glen Gregory this past Friday. Glen was a fixture with Confederation Park Little League as a coach and member of their executive, but his efforts and influence extended far beyond that.
The 2012 Canadian Little League Championships Organizing Committee (2012 CLLCOC) had their first opportunity to visit the newly rebuilt diamond at John Fry Park. Among those in attendance was President Wendy Berdahl. Vice President Vanessa French, Edmonton District Administrator and Tournament Director Wayne Sperling, 2012 Secretary Neil Riley and Umpire in Chief John Mitchell. Also in attendance were City of Edmonton officials and a representative of the contractor who was in charge of construction.
The Canadian Little League Conference was held March 24-25 in Calgary. There were several announcements made at the meetings that are of significance to the Canadian Championships being held this August in Edmonton. The following are some of the highlights of the meetings;
