               Blue Devils Baseball 2010

                                W.R.W.B.L
Our League has now developed and grown over the past few seasons. Many new and exciting things are in the works.
We now have 15 teams competing for 12 playoff spots. The League continues to get YOUNGER and YOUNGER with so much College Talent.
Don't let anyone tell you that this league is one level below some of the other College Summer Leagues that basically consume your whole Summer and Guarantee you nothing!
The more you play, the more AB's you get..The more innings you pitch....those are things that will get you better. Not sitting on the bench in some Elite setting while you get 20 AB's or 10 innings pitched for the Summer!  NO WAY!!!
The Blue Devils Summer Schedule will consist of 30 regular season games + Playoffs.
We will also Travel to 2 Tournaments as well as Visiting Glens Falls to take on the Golden Eagles of the NYCBL.
We will also have Some Local Non League games. All totaled we should play about 50 games with alot of freedom for all my players. We will discuss our Team Rules before the Season starts.
In 2010 the League will consist of:
Rockland Cavaliers (2 time Defending Champions)
New City Outlaws
Danbury Barons
NYC Thunderdogs
Peekskill Tides
Hastings Lookouts
Suffern Blue Devils
Rockland Rebels
New Rochelle Tigers
Somers Cyclones
New Rochelle Dirtbags
Yorktown Brewers
New Rochelle Athletics
Pleasantville Redsox
Rye Patriots

This years Finals as well as some regular season games will be held at DUTCHESS STADIUM.
Home of the Hudson Valley Renegades.(Tampa Bay)

Our End of Season Awards and League picnic will also be held at Dutchess Stadium with the ALLSTAR game and Fireworks show by the Renegades to follow the picnic under the lights at the Stadium.
This will attract 2-3000 people for our All Star game as well as the Championship series..
The Renegades will Partner with us (WRWBL) now and for the future..Promoting the League with all of their Media Relations. This will help bring out  Scouts to see all the young talent that the WRWBL has to offer.
We are all looking forward to an Exciting Summer of Baseball..
Keep a eye out for my emails with Team and League Updates throughout the Spring Season.

Vinnie

Devils Sweep for 5th straight Victory

Nick Barbalato, freshman leftfielder at St Thomas Aquinas is off to fast start for the Blue Devils this Summer.
To Date Barbalato is 14 for 30 with 11 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. His batting average stands at .467..
In the First week of June Nick is 6-9 with 5 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.....
Early in the year 5/14/09 against the New City Outlaws a game that was called because of rain with 3 outs to go for an offical game Barbalato was 2-3 with a Homerun and 2 RBI's and a stolen base...Stats that were wiped off the board.
Barbalato is making a huge impact for the Devils..This weekend he went 3-5 with 3 runs scored in a DH sweep of the Somers Cyclones.
Also chipping in this weekend was John Cole.
Cole went 5-6 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's.
The Devil pitching staff continues to do a fantastic job. In the Sunday DH the Blue Devil staff gave up only 7 hits and 3 runs all day long while striking out 13. Their team ERA now is an amazing 1.54...

June 14th DH Lost 2-1......2-1
Blue Devils get swept away by Thunderdogs........
The Rain and 5 days off has hit the Blue Devils hard.......Coming off a 5 day layoff the Blue Devils bats are as Cold as can be....The Devils took on the NYC Thunderdogs on Sunday only to be swept away 2-1 in 11 innings in game one, and 2-1 in game two. The Pitching staff did their job allowing 4 runs on 11 hits in 18 innings of work, while playing flawless defense in both games. "We blew countless opportunities in both games to tack on runs: said Devils Manager Vinnie Randazzo " Not executing Sac bunts or moving runners over in key situations BURNED US all day long"
" I think our pitching Staff did a tremendous job and gave us a chance to win both games...The Thunderdogs pitchers did a great job of keeping us off balance all day long. Losing to a CLASS team like the Thunderdogs eases the pain a bit"
The Blue Devils must bounce back on Thursday vs the Rockland Rebels.

WHY DO WE COACH?

The Star Thrower
There was a man who was walking along a sandy beach where thousands of starfish had been washed up on the shore. He noticed a boy picking the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man observed the boy for a few minutes and then asked what he was doing. The boy replied that he was returning the starfish to the sea, otherwise they would die.The man asked how saving a few, when so many were doomed, would make any difference whatsoever? The boy picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean and said "Made a difference to that one..."
The man left the boy and went home, deep in thought of what the boy had said. He soon returned to the beach and spent the rest of the day helping the boy throw starfish in to the sea....

"Coaches Thought"
Bunting in baseball is as important as blocking in football. In football if you can’t block you won’t move the football, you won’t generate any offense, and you will lose. In baseball, there is a “ho-hum, don’t ask ME to bunt” attitude.

In failing to have a good bunting game players lose the other values of hitting that come from bunting concepts. The threat of the drag bunt keeps the flanks (third and first basemen) playing close to the hitter. This increases the hitter’s advantage to drive the ball past them. In sacrifice bunt situations, the good bunters have the ability to slash hit from a bunting stance, once again taking advantage of the drawn-in infield. The ability to drag bunt, sacrifice bunt and slash hit from a bunting stance will increase every player’s batting average at least 100 points. I did say 100 points! Coaches armed with a good bunting game have the weaponry to attack and score in adverse weather conditions, wind blowing in, cold and wet weather. The bunting game helps you create offense no matter what the occasion or condition.
