Posted Mar 11/12 - Lions Close Out Season on Winning Note

The Lions head into the offseason on a high note defeating the Trojans 35-7.  The game featured another balanced scoring attack and a swarming defense.  In the first half the Lions defense held the Trojans scoreless and for the game allowed only seven points. The Lions finished 9-1 on the year.

It was an outstanding season in which the boys worked hard and responded to the challenge to improve each and every week.  The boys learned to work together as a team focusing on a team defense that gave up an average of only 13 points per game.  On offense their unselfish approach led to many games in which at least 8 players were in the scoring column, and few times did any individual player enter double figures.  The Lions offense averaged 39 points per game.

Posted Feb 13/12 - Lions Roll vs Spartans
The visiting Spartans took an early 2-0 lead then the Lions took over from there.  As they have most of the season, the Lions used a swarming defense to take command early.  They went into halftime leading 29-8.  In the second half the Lions once again went to work running their half court offense along with a zone defense.  The home team had nine of ten players in the scoring column and with unselfish play posted 44 points without a single player in double figures.  The final tally - Lions 44 Spartans 16, improving their record to 7-1 on the season.

Posted Jan 29/12 - Lions Rebound from Overtime Loss
The Lions returned to the court after a week off and on the heels of an overtime defeat to take control of the game early.  The visiting team took charge from the outset with a smothering full court pressure defense.  The Lions went into the half leading 28-2.  In the second session the Lions worked on their half court offense, and at one point held possession of the rock for over two minutes without the ball touching the floor.  At the final buzzer the Lions came away with a convincing 38-14 victory.
Posted Jan 15/12 - Lions Fall in Overtime
The Rockwood Lions started off slow and found themselves behind early trailing 8-2 after 4 minutes of play.  The team was able to regroup and eventually took a 5 point lead into halftime, leading 21-16.  In the second half the Lions lead disappeared and the two teams found themselves exchanging leads for much of the second half.  At the end of regulation the score was knotted up at 31 all.  In the 2 minute extra session defense was solid as the two teams combined for only 7 points.  In the end the Lions fell short on a bucket at the buzzer suffering their first loss of the season  35-34.
