Senators win 3rd straight City League Title

The Madison Senators beat Jordan's Big 10 Pub on Wednesday night, 8-3, capturing their 3rd straight city league championship.  Jesse Christianson picked up the victory for the Senators, going the distance.  The Senators scored seven straight runs to start the sixth inning to take the lead for good.  Up next for the Senators is the Rock River League Playoffs.  The Senators will travel to Oakfield on Saturday and will host Rubicon on Sunday.  Both games start at 1:30.

Senators beat Watertown, clinch #3 seed in playoffs

The Madison Senators beat the Watertown Cardinals on Saturday 5-4, clinching the #3 seed in the Rock River League Playoffs.  Watertown jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but the Senators stormed back.  Jesse Christianson hit a two rbi single in the fourth inning and Mike Finnegan got a rbi on a fielder's choice to tie the game.  Pat Hawker hit a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Senators the lead for good.  Mike Finnegan took care of the rest, retiring the final 16 batters of the game to pick up the complete game victory for the Senators.  The Senators will now play in the double elimination playoffs for the Rock River League.  The Senators will travel to Oakfield on Saturday to take on the Oaks. On Sunday, the Senators will host the Rubicon Red Sox.  Come out and cheer on your Senators!

City League Update

The Madison Senators will play Berghoff in their final city league game on Monday, August 16th at Mansfield Stadium.  If the Senators win, they will play Jordan's Big 10 Rockers in a rematch of last season's city league championship game on Wednesday night.  Game time for Monday's game is at 6 pm.

Despite two hits, Senators win at Lebanon

The Madison Senators kept their playoff chances alive and well with a 3-1 victory at Lebanon on Sunday afternoon.  Mike Finnegan tossed a complete game, allowing zero earned runs, giving up two hits and striking out 11 batters in his first start of the season.  The Senators got a leadoff walk from Josh Schafer in the top of the fifth and Jared Staudenmayer and Jake Page hit back to back rbi doubles to give the Senators the lead for good.  Those were the only two hits the Senators would get on the day.  The Senators will host the Watertown Cardinals next Saturday in Utica.  A win would clinch a playoff spot!

Late errors doom Senators

The Madison Senators lost to the Clyman Canners on Tuesday night 8-4 in Watertown.  The game was a rain makeup from Saturday.  The Senators had three errors in the top of the ninth inning that led to five runs for the Canners.  The Senators will travel to Lebanon next Sunday to take on the Whitetails.

Senators crush Farmington

The Madison Senators traveled to Farmington on Sunday and clobbered the host Braves, 19-0.  Skyler Deblizen pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and striking out eight batters.  Leading the hitting attack for the Senators was Mike Finnegan who went 4x6 with two doubles and four rbi's.  Jared Staudenmayer, Tim Botham and Mike Huemmer all had three rbi's for the Senators.  The Senators also were walked 12 times.  The Senators will host the first place Clyman Canners on Saturday at Utica Field.

Senators keep playoff hopes alive with win against Laurel.

Jesse Christianson pitched six strong innings and Mike Finnegan pitched the final three innings, giving up zero hits for the save as the Senators defeated the Madison Laurel Tavern 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Joe Herfel and Jake Page had rbi hits in a two run third inning to give the Senators the lead for good.  The Senators are in third place in the southern division with four games left in the regular season.

Senators stumble at Neosho

The Madison Senators lost to the Neosho Rockets on Sunday afternoon, 5-3 in Neosho.  Pat Hawker got the start on the mound for the Senators, pitching seven innings and striking out nine batters despite taking the loss.  Dusty Jacobson led the Rockets in hitting going 3x4 with three rbi's.  The Senators look to bounce back next Saturday when the host the first place Madison Laurel Tavern.

8 Senators named to Rock River League All Star Team

The Madison Senators will be well represented in this years Rock River League All Star game.  Josh Schafer (3B) and Jared Staudenmayer (SS) were named starters to the South Team.  Joining them on the team as reserves are Joe Herfel (OF), Tim Botham (OF), Donny Bryant (1B), Jake Page (C), Mike Finnegan (P), and Jesse Christianson (P).  Congrats to the All Stars!

Senators stumble at Milton

The Madison Senators traveled to Milton on Sunday and lost to the Raptors, 2-1.  Jesse Christianson got the start for the Senators, going the distance and striking out five batters.  Jared Staudenmayer went 4x4 on the day but the Senators were not able to execute with runners in scoring position.  Up next for the Senators is a road game in Neosho next Sunday to take on the Rockets.

Pitching key in Senators victory over Johnson Creek

The Madison Senators got some excellent pitching on Saturday afternoon, leading them to a victory over Johnson Creek, 3-1.  Jesse Christianson got the win for the Senators, going eight innings and striking out nine batters on the day.  Mike Finnegan picked up his fifth save of the season.  Finnegan also had the winning hit, a triple that scored Tim Botham in the bottom of the eighth, followed by a Christianson single to score Finnegan.  Up next in the Rock River League for the Senators is a road game at Milton on the fourth of July to take on the Raptors.

Senators win won for the Father's in Ashippun

The Madison Senators traveled to Ashippun for Father's Day and defeated the Mudcats, 11-8.  Joe Herfel led the offensive attack, going 4x5 with three doubles and two rbi's.  Jake Page also had a good day at the plate, going 2x4 with four rbi's.  Jesse Christianson got the start for the Senators on the mound and picked up the victory.  Jared Staudenmayer recorded his first save of the season.  The Senators host Johnson Creek next Saturday at Utica.

Errors doom Senators in Watertown

The Madison Senators committed five errors, costing them the game at Watertown on Saturday.  The Senators were leading 5-3 but gave up single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to lead to the defeat.  Pat Hawker threw a complete game for the Senators, giving up one earned run in the loss.  The Senators travel to Ashippun on Sunday and look to rebound against the Mudcats.

Senators are victorious against Lebanon

The Madison Senators bounced back from last weekends loss to Clyman on Saturday by beating the Lebanon Whitetails 3-1 at Utica Field.  The Senators got two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Donny Bryant hit a two run double.  The Senators got a run in the fifth inning when Tim Botham hit a rbi single.  Skyler Deblizen picked up the win, pitching five innings and only allowing an unearned run.  Mike Finnegan picked up the save, pitching four innings of relief and not allowing any runs to score.  Finnegan has now thrown 13 innings in Rock River League play and has not allowed any runs.  The Senators travel to Watertown on Saturday to take on the Cardinals.  Game time has been moved to 4:30.  The Senators will then travel to Ashippun on Father's Day to take on the Mudcats at 1:30.

Senators bounce back against Farmington

The Madison Senators beat the Farmington Braves, 4-2 on Saturday at Utica Field.  Pitching was the key to victory on Saturday for the Senators.  Skyler Deblizen picked up the victory, starting the game and pitching four innings.  Joe Herfel pitched three innings in relief, giving up zero hits and striking out three batters.  Mike Finnegan pitched the final two innings, striking out four batters to earn the save.  Up next in the Rock is a rain makeup with the Ashippun Mudcats at Utica Field on Saturday, then the Senators travel to Clyman on Sunday to take on the Canners.

Laurel Tavern hands Senators first loss of the season

The Madison Senators were defeated by the Madison Laurel Tavern on Sunday, 4-1.  The Laurel Tavern scored two runs in the third and two in the fourth and cruised to victory over the Senators.  Starting pitcher Pat Hawker took the loss for the Senators.  The Senators start the city league on Wednesday night at Bowman Field and then host the Farmington Braves on Saturday, May 29th.

Senators cruise to victory against Neosho

The Madison Senators beat the Neosho Rockets 8-3 Saturday in a Rock River League game.  The Senators were led by starting pitcher Jesse Christianson who struck out 11 batters over 8 innings.  The Senators were led on offense by shortstop Jared Staudenmayer.  Staudenmayer went 2x4 on the day, highlighted by a bases loaded double in the second inning and finishing with four rbi's on the day.  The Senators travel to Verona on Sunday to take on their city rival, the Madison Laurel Tavern.

Senators beat Milton in Utica

The Madison Senators defeated the Milton Raptors Saturday in Utica, 2-1.  The Senators gave up an early run in the fourth inning, trailing 1-0 until the seventh inning.  Mike Finnegan opened up the seventh with a single, Tim Botham reached on an error and moved to second on another error and Donny Bryant was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  After a force out at home and a strikeout, Jared Staudenmayer came through with a two rbi single to put the Senators up for good.  Jesse Christianson picked up his second victory of the season, scattering five hits and one earned run.  Mike Finnegan picked up the save.  Up next for the Senators is the Neosho Rockets, Saturday May 22nd at Utica.

Senators shutout Johnson Creek in Rock River opener

The Madison Senators won their Rock River League opener on Mother's Day, shutting out Johnson Creek, 11-0.  Jesse Christianson threw seven scoreless innings, striking out seven batters and allowing only three hits.  Pat Hawker led the offensive attack, going 4x5 with two doubles and driving in three runs.  The Senators pounded out 13 hits.  Christianson and Mike Finnegan did not allow any Pioneers past second base.

Senators rained out in Rock River League opener

The Madison Senators game against the Ashippun Mudcats was rained out on Saturday, May 8th.   The makeup date has been scheduled for Saturday, June 5th, 1:30pm at Utica Field.

Texas Hold Em Fundraiser is April 3rd

Senators win 2nd straight City League Title

The Madison Senators finished off their 2009 season with a 1-0 victory over Jordan's Big 10 Pub in the city league championship game at Bowman Field.  Joe Herfel threw a complete game shutout to earn the victory for the Senators.  The Senators scored the only run of the game in the 2nd inning on a rbi single by Tim Botham.  In the bottom of the 7th, Jordan's got a hit by their leadoff hitter to start the inning.  Center fielder Collin Crim ran a ball down in the right centerfield gap, made the catch and threw out the runner on first who did not tag up to quickly get 2 outs in the inning.  Herfel then struck out the final batter of the game to seal the victory for the Senators.  This is the 2nd straight city title for the Senators. 

Senators will play in City Championship on Monday, Aug. 17th

Due to rain, the semifinals of the city league were pushed back, so the Senators will be playing the city championship game on Monday, August 17th at Bowman Field, game time 7:00pm.  The Senators will be taking on Jordan's Big 10 Pub.  The Senators are looking to defend their city championship.  Come out and support the Senators!!!

Senators to host Brownsville 49ers in Rock Playoffs

The Madison Senators will host the Brownsville 49ers on Saturday in the first round of the Rock River League Playoffs.  The Senators are the #3 seed overall in the 8 team, double elimination tournament.  The Senators will travel to Mayville on Sunday to take on the Mallards, both games starting at 1:30pm.  Come out and support the Senators!!

Senators beat Watertown, clinch #2 seed in playoffs

The Madison Senators escaped Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the Watertown Cardinals, clinching the #2 seed in the Rock River League playoffs.  The Senators scored their only run in the fifth inning.  With two outs, Mike Huemmer singled to right field.  Skyler Deblizen followed with a single of his own, putting runners at first and second.  Josh Fleck hit a pop fly to the right fielder, which was dropped, allowing pinch runner, Josh Schafer to score, thus giving the Senators the lead for good.  The Senators were led by a strong group pitching performance.  Joe Herfel got the start on the mound, allowing only one hit in three innings of work.  Skyler Deblizen pitched five innings of relief, striking out six batters and not allowing any hits to pick up the victory.  Mike Finnegan got the save in the ninth for the Senators.  The Senators will be the #2 seed in the South Division, hosting a playoff game on Saturday, August 15th at Utica Field.  Opponent is to be determined.  The Senators travel to Ashippun on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

Senators pound out 24 hits in win over Johnson Creek

The Madison Senators fought back from an early seven run deficit en route to a 19-7 victory over the Johnson Creek Pioneers, in Johnson Creek on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers scored six runs in the second inning off Senators starter, Skyler Deblizen,  to take a 7-0 lead.  The Senators fought back with  two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth.  Then the Senators bats really came alive!  They scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good.  Josh Schafer had two hits and three rbi's in the inning to lead the Senators.  Schafer finished the day 4x6.  Josh Fleck went 5x6 at the plate as well for the Senators.  Joe Herfel, Jared Staudenmayer, Pat Hawker, Donny Bryant, Mike Huemmer and Mike Finnegan all had multiple hits for the Senators as well.  Deblizen went six innings to pick up the victory for the Senators who are now 12-2 in the Rock River League.  Up next in the Rock for the Senators is a home game against the Watertown Cardinals on Saturday, August 1st.

Senators nip Neosho at Utica

The Madison Senators beat the Neosho Rockets 5-2 at Utica Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Senators were down early, giving up two runs in the top of the third inning.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Senators did their damage.  Mike Hewitt led the inning off with a single, followed by a walk by Tim Botham.  An error by the third basemen allowed Skyler Deblizen to reach base and load the bases. Mike Finnegan hit a rbi single to score Hewitt.  Joe Herfel then came up and hit a ground ball to the shortstop who made an error allowing Botham to score.  When the shortstop recovered the ball, he threw it to the pitcher, only to have the ball sail over the pitcher's head and out of play, allowing Deblizen and Finnegan to score and moving Herfel to third base on the two base error.  Josh Fleck singled in Herfel for the Senators final run.  Mike Finnegan went the distance on the mound, scattering seven hits to pick up the victory.  The Senators travel to Johnson Creek, Sunday to take on the Pioneers.

Clyman hands Senators second Rock River loss

The Madison Senators came up short Saturday against the Clyman Canners, falling 3-1 in 10 innings.  Clyman scored two runs in the top of the tenth, one on a rbi single, the other on a sacrifice fly to seal the victory for the Canners.  Pat Hawker went the distance for the Senators, scattering nine hits, striking out five and giving up three earned runs.  The Senators had plenty of chances but could not capitalize.  They had the bases loaded with nobody out in the second inning and stranded all three runners.  In the seventh inning, the Senators scored their lone run and had runners on first and third with only one out and did not score any more runs in the inning.  The Senators remain in second place in the Southern Division.  The Senators have a bye next weekend but will host Neosho on Saturday, July 25th.

Senators shutout Laurel Tavern

Pat Hawker and Mike Finnegan combined to throw a five hit shutout to lead the Madison Senators to a 2-0 victory over the Madison Laurel Tavern.  Hawker went six innings, striking out four batters and scattering 4 hits to pick up the victory.  Finnegan allowed only one hit and struck out four batters in three innings of relief.  The Senators scored both of their runs in the second inning.  Skyler Deblizen had a rbi groundout to second base to score Pat Hawker.  Tim Botham had a rbi single that scored Mike Finnegan.  The Senators are now 10-1 in the Rock and host the first place Clyman Canners on Saturday.  Come support your Senators!!!

5 Senators named to All Star Team

The Madison Senators landed five players on the Rock River League South Division All Star Team!  Josh Schafer (3B) and Mike Finnegan (2B) were named starters for this year's all star game.  Joe Herfel (OF), Jared Staudenmayer (SS) and Pat Hawker (P) made the team as reserves.  This years all star game will take place on Friday, July 10th, at Lebanon.  Game time is set for 8pm. 

Senators score 21 in win over Farmington

The Madison Senators crushed the Farmington Braves, 21-3 on Sunday in Farmington.  The Senators pounded out 18 hits in the victory, led by Mike Hewitt who went 4x6 with a home run and 4 rbi's.  Hewitt's home run was a 2 run shot in the 3rd inning.  Donny Bryant and Tim Botham both drove in 3 runs for the Senators as well.  Leading the way on Sunday afternoon was starting pitcher, Joe Herfel.  He pitched 7 innings to pick up the victory and went 4x5 batting.  He led the Senators with 5 rbi's on the day.  The Senators are now 9-1 in the Rock River League.  Up next for the Senators is a home game against the Madison Laurel Tavern.  Game time is 11:30 am at Utica Field.  Hope to see you there.

Senators win at Lebanon

The Senators escape Lebanon with a victory over the Whitetails, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Mike Finnegan went the distance for the Senators, scattering 12 hits and striking out four batters.  The Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a rbi single by Josh Fleck, followed by a rbi groundout by Donny Bryant.  The Senators scored one more run in the top of the ninth on a throwing error by Lebanon.  The Senators travel to Farmington on Sunday to take on the Braves.

 

Hawker fans 13 in win over Ashippun

The Madison Senators beat the Ashippun Mudcats 5-1 at Utica Field on Saturday.  The Senators were led by Pat Hawker, who pitched eight innings, scattering 7 hits and striking out 13 batters on the day.  Mike Finnegan pitched an inning of relief and striking out two batters as well.  The Senators had a balanced day at the plate with four different players driving a run in.  Josh Schafer, Jared Staudenmayer, Pat Hawker and Donny Bryant all drove in runs for the Senators.  The Senators are now one game behind the Clyman Canners in the Rock River League south division.  Up next in the Rock for the Senators is a double header weekend.  The will travel to Farmington on Saturday and to Lebanon on Sunday.

Senators pound out 23 hits in victory over Watertown

The Madison Senators are all alone in second place in the South Division after a 9-1 victory at Watertown on Sunday.  The Senators scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead and added three more run in the the fifth and sixth innings to cruise to victory.  Jake Soule had a two run double to highlight the fifth inning and Jason Gavin belted a two run homer in the sixth to seal the win.  Pat Hawker started the game for the Senators, going three innings.  Mike Finnegan picked up his second straight victory in relief, scattering only two hits over the final six innings.  Finnegan also went 5x6 at the plate.  Donny Bryant also had a five hit day for the Senators who had 23 hits on the day.  The Senators only trail the Clyman Canners in the South Divsion, who stayed undefeated with a victory over the Laurel Tavern on Sunday.  Up next for the Senators in the Rock is a home game against the Ashippun Mudcats on Saturday, see you there.

Senators escape with home victory over Farmington

The Madison Senators beat the Farmington Braves, 4-2 at Utica Field on Saturday.  The Senators were down by two runs early and came back to tie the game in the fourth.  Josh Schafer and Joe Hefel each had rbi singles.  The Senators took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning courtesy of shaky defense by Farmington.  The Senators used two errors, two fielder choices and a walk to score two unearned runs to preserve the victory.  Joe Herfel pitched a solid seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out five.  Mike Finnegan picked up the win in relief, not allowing a base runner over the final two innings.  The Senators travel to Watertown on Sunday to take on the Cardinals.

Senators bats stay hot against Johnson Creek

The Madison Senators cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Johnson Creek Pioneers at Utica Field on Saturday afternoon.  This is the second Rock River League game in a row the Senators have scored over 10 runs.  Leading the way for the Senators were Josh Schafer and Mike Finnegan.  Schafer went 4x4 with a home run and a double and three rbi's.  Finnegan went 3x5 with five rbi's to pace the Senators offense.  The Senators got a solid start from veteran Joe Herfel.  He pitched six inning to pick up the win.  The Senators host the Farmington Braves next Saturday at Utica.  Come and support your Senators!

Senators win slugfest at Neosho

The Madison Senators won a slugfest at Neosho on Sunday, winning 15-11.  Neosho jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  The Senators tied the game in the fifth inning on Tim Botham's rbi single, scoring Skyler Deblizen.  Skyler gave the Senators the lead in the 6th inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Mike Hewitt.  The Senators erupted for 8 runs in the seventh inning, led by Jared Staudenmayer.  He hit a three run home run to key the scoring for Senators.  Staudenmayer led the Senators in hitting, going 3x4 with two doubles and the home run.  He had six rbi's on the day.  Mike Hewitt, Mike Huemmer and Tim Botham had two rbi's a piece for the Senators.  The Senators pounded out 19 hits on the day.  Mike Hewitt, Josh Schafer, and Skyler Deblizen also had three hits a piece for the Senators.  Pat Hawker picked up the win for the Senators, pitching 7 innings and scattering five hits.  He also struck out seven batters.  Up next for the Senators is the start of the Madison City League.  They will be taking on Wilson's Bar and Grill, 6pm on Monday at Bowman Field.

Senators drop first Rock game at Clyman

The Madison Senators suffered their first Rock River League loss on Sunday afternoon, losing to the host Clyman Canners, 4-0.  Jeff Zielke threw 8 innings of shutout baseball to pick up the the win for the Canners.  Clyman is now 4-0 in the Rock.  Pat Hawker started the game for the Senators, allowing one run in the first inning and two more in the fourth inning.  Skyler Debilzen finished the final four innings for the Senators in relief.  Josh Schafer led the Senators in hitting, going 2x4 on the day.  The Senators were held to only five hits on the afternoon.  Up next for the Senators is a trip to Neosho next Sunday to take on the Rockets.

Senators earn victory against Laurel

The Madison Senators beat the Laurel Tavern, 11-2 at Stampfl Field on Sunday.  The Senators scored four runs in the first seven innings, then  went on to score seven in the final two innings on their way to victory.  Josh Fleck went 3x6 and 3 rbi's.  Pat Hawker lead with his arm and his bat.  He went 3x5 with 2 doubles and 2 rbi's.  He also pitched a complete game, picking up the victory.  He only allowed 2 runs, scattered 8 hits and struck out 5 batters.  Next up for the Senators is a trip to Clyman to take on the Canners.

City League Schedule now posted

The Madison Senators will once again be competing in the Madison City League.  The schedule is now posted.

Senators rained out

The Madison Senators game against the Farmington Braves was postponed due to wet grounds on Saturday.  The game will be made up on Saturday, June 13th.  The Senators face the Madison Laurel Tavern on Sunday, May 17th at Verona.  Game time is at 1:30.

Senators open Rock with win.

The Madison Senators opened Rock River League play with a convincing victory, 20-4 over the Lebanon Whitetails.  The Senators jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning behind 4 first inning walks, a rbi single from Pat Hawker, a 2 rbi double by Mike Finnegan and a 2 rbi single by Tim Botham.  The Senators would finish the day with 12 hits, lead by Mike Finnegan's 3x4 day and 5 rbi's.  Catcher Jake Soule, first baseman Pat Hawker each had 4 rbi's as well for the Senators.  Jesse Christianson got the win for the Senators, going 5 innings, striking out 7 and only allowing 1 hit.  The Senators will host Farmington next Saturday at 1:30pm.

Senators open Rock River League play this weekend.

The Madison Senators begin Rock River League play this weekend, hosting Lebanon at Utica Field.  Game time is at 11:30 am, due to a Home Talent League game following the Senators game.  Come out and support the Senators for their home opener.

Senators win again in Stoughton Tourney.

The Madison Senators defeated the Stoughton Merchants 7-1 in the second game of the Stoughton Tourney.  Jesse Christianson, Joe Herfel and Mike Finnegan combined to only allow 3 hits and one run in seven innings.  The remainder of the Stoughton Tourney has been cancelled due to the weather. 

Senators win exhibition opener.

The Madison Senators won their exhibition opener on Saturday, defeating Argyle of the Home Talent League, 11-0.  Jesse Christianson and Mike Finnegan combined to throw a no hitter!   The Senators were rained out on Sunday and will make up the game Friday night, April 24th against the Stoughton Merchants at 7:00pm at Stoughton High School.  If the Senators win, they will play in the championship game, Saturday April 25th at 7:00pm or at 4:30pm,  at Stoughton High School.

The Madison Senators would like to thank everyone who has come out and supported us at our Texas Holdem Fundraisers.  We would like to send our congrats out to Jessica Sarenich who took first place.  This is the second tournament in a row she has placed in the money!  Also, Rob "Suge" Knight took second place.  Thanks for coming out and supporting the Madison Senators.  Hope to see you all at a few games.

3rd Annual Texas Hold Em Fundraiser

The 3rd annual texas hold em fundraiser will be April 4th, 2:00pm at JJ's Top of the Swamp.  Entry fee for the tournament is $30, half of the fee going to support the Madison Senators and the other half going towards the winner's pool.  Please come out and support us!

Stoughton Preseason Tournament

The Madison Senators will kick off the 2009 season in the Stoughton Merchants preseason tournament.  The Senators will face Argyle of the home talent league on Saturday April 18th, 4:30pm at Stoughton High School.  This is a round robin tournament.  The other teams in the tournament are all from the Home Talent League.  They are Stoughton, Cottage Grove, Cambridge, Utica, Columbus and Dodgeville.

 

2nd Annual Texas Hold Em Tournament

Come and support your Madison Senators!  On Saturday, February 7th, the Senators will be hosting a Texas Hold Em fundraiser at JJ's Top of the Swamp.  The tournament will begin at 2pm.  The entry fee for the tournament will be $30.  Half of the entry fee will go towards paying out the top 3 finishers and the other half will go towards supporting the Madison Senators baseball team.  Please come and support your local baseball team.  Any questions, contact Pat Soule 244-1657 or Tim Botham 347-0395.

2008 Season

Clyman 5   Senators 4  The Madison Senators lost to the Clyman Canners in 10 innings on Sunday, in the first game of the Rock River League Playoffs.  Clyman jumped out in the first inning, scoring 3 runs, 2 of which came on the home run by Shaun Wegner.  The Senators rallied in the fourth inning, scoring 3 runs.  Donnie Bryant hit a 2 run double and Jake Soule followed with a rbi double of his own.  Clyman scored a run in the 7th and the Senators tied it on Jesse Christianson's rbi single to tie the game again.  Clyman scored a run in the tenth, a rbi single by Charlie Hurtgen.  Mike Finnegan went the distance for the Senators, allowing 7 hits and striking out 9 batters on the day.  The Senators face the Madison Shoe Box on Tuesday night at Mansfield Stadium, game time set for 7pm.  The Senators must win to stay alive in the playoffs.

Playoffs  The Madison Senators start postseason play on Sunday, August 17th.  The Senators are hosting the Clyman Canners, but Utica Home Talent team is hosting a playoff game in Utica so the Senators are traveling to Johnson Creek to host their playoff game.  Game time still set at 1:30.  On Tuesday, August 19th, the Senators will take on the Madison Shoe Box.  This game will be at Mansfield Stadium. Game time is 7pm.  This is a double elimination tournament.  Hope to see a lot of support, go Senators!

Senators 3  Juneau 1  The Madison Senators beat the Juneau County Seaters on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 to clinch a playoff spot in the Rock River League.  Mike Finnegan went the distance on the mound, scattering 6 hits on the afternoon.  The Senators were led in hitting by Joe Herfel who went 3x4 at the plate with 2 rbi's.  Jake Soule was perfect at the plate, going 3x3, all singles.  The Senators clinched the 3rd seed in the South Division and will host the Clyman Canners next Sunday at Utica Field. 

Johnson Creek 9  Senators 6  The Madison Senators lost to the Johnson Creek Pioneers on Sunday, 9-6 in Johnson Creek.  Tom Ritzer went the distance for Johnson Creek, which got 16 hits on the day.  The Senators were led by Josh Fleck who went 2x5 at the plate, with 2 rbi's and 3 stolen bases.  Mike Huemmer went 3x4 at the plate, all singles, and Jake Soule went 3x 4 with 2 doubles. Pat Hawker took the loss for the Senators.  The Senators fall to 10-7 in Rock River League play.  The Senators host Juneau this weekend at Utica, 1:30 with a playoff spot on the line.

City League Champions  The Madison Senators (Busch Boys) captured the Madison City League Championship Wednesday night at Warner Park.  The Senators had to beat Precise Accounting two times to win the championship, and they did just that.  The Senators took the first game, 14-2 and won the second game in their final at bat, 8-6.  Congrats, Senators!!!!

Senators 7 Neosho 0  The Madison Senators blanked the Neosho Rockets on Sunday afternoon, 7-0.  Mike Finnegan pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 10 batters and allowing 8 hits.  The Senators were led at the plate by Jeremy Winters, who went 3x4 at the plate and driving in three runs.  Mike Finnegan went 3x5 and Mike Hewitt was 2x5 at the plate as well.   The Senators pounded out 4 doubles on the day as well as playing some great defense.  The win moves the Senators into third place in the South Division.  The Senators will travel to Johnson Creek next Sunday.

Watertown 6  Senators 0   Watertown's Andy Schwantz threw a complete game shutout as the Senators were unable to get any offense going on Sunday afternoon in Watertown.  Joe Herfel started for the Senators and was relieved in the fourth by first year Senator, Pat Hawker.  At the plate the Senators produced 7 hits with Mike Finnegan and Mike Hewitt both going 2 x 4.  The Senators fall to 9-6 in the Rock River League and will travel to Neosho on Sunday to take on the Neosho Rockets.

Senators 6 Ashippun 5  The Senators beat the Ashippun Mudcats 6-5 at Utica on Saturday.  Mike Finnegan and Mike Hewitt both had rbi singles in the first inning, both going 2x4 on the day.  The Senators pounded out 16 hits on the day, led by Josh Schafer and Joe Herfel, both going 3x5 on the day.  Jesse Christianson got the win on the mound, going 6 innings and striking out 7 batters.  Mike Finnegan got the save, pitching 3 innings of no hit ball and striking out 5.   The Senators go on the road tomorrow to face the Watertown Cardinals.

Senators 7  Laurel Tavern 3  The Senators came through with a big win on Sunday, beating Madison Laurel Tavern 7-3 at MATC.  The Senators drew two walks by Mike Hewitt and Pat Hawker to start the 4th inning.  Donnie Bryant then had a rbi double, followed by a rbi single by Jake Soule, then another rbi single by Mike Finnegan.  The Senators scored 5 runs in the inning, which was more than enough for starting pitcher Mike Finnegan.  Finnegan pitched a complete game,  striking out six batters and allowing seven hits.  Josh Schafer went 3x5, Jake Soule went 3x4 and Mike Finnegan went 2x4 to lead the hitting attack for the Senators.  The Senators stayed in 3rd place in the South Division, pushing their record to 8-5.  Up next in the Rock for the Senators is the Ashippun Mudcats, Saturday July 19th.  Don't forget, it is fan appreciation day!!!  Hope to see a big crowd!

Fan Appreciation Day   Attention all Madison Senator fans, our annual Fan Appreciation Day is going to be Saturday, July 19th when we take on the Ashippun Mudcats.  The game will start at 1:30 and we will have specials on everything in the concession stand and there will be a few raffles!  Please come out and support your Madison Senators.  

All Star Selections   The Madison Senators would like to send out their congrats to  the following players for being selected the represent the South Division in this weekends all star game at Rubicon.  Joe Herfel, Josh Schaefer, Josh Fleck, Mike Hewitt, Mike Finnegan and Jesse Christianson.  Joe Herfel, Josh Fleck and Mike Finnegan were all selected as starters for the South Division.  Go Senators!!!!

Shoebox 7  Senators 3  The Senators lost to their arch rival, the Madison Shoebox on Sunday afternoon at Mansfield Stadium.  Justin Dahman went 3x5 and Tyler Dahman went 2x5 to lead the Shoebox to victory.  Jesse Christianson took the loss for the Senators, who fell to 7-5 in the Rock River League.

Senators 7  Pardeville 0  The Senators got back to their winning ways on Sunday, beating the host Pardeville Braves 7-0.  Mike Finnegan pitched a complete game masterpiece, allowing only five hits and striking out 5.  Josh Fleck provided some run support, going 2x5 with four rbi's.  Joe Herfel and Josh Schaefer both went 3x5 at the plate as well. 

Clyman 9  Senators 4  The Senators suffered another setback on Saturday afternoon, losing again to the Clyman Canners, 9-4.  Dave McFarland pitched a complete game for the Canners, striking out 8 batters.  Mike Finnegan went 3x5 and Joe Herfel went 2x5 at the plate but it wasn't enough.  Joe Herfel took the loss on the mound for the Senators.

Juneau 8  Senators 7  The Senators lost a heartbreaker in Juneau on Sunday afternoon, losing 8-7 to the Juneau County Seaters.  Mike Hewitt was called out at home plate in the top of the 9th inning, ending the comeback by the Senators.  Tim Botham and Pat Hawker each hit solo home runs in the losing effort.  Mike Finnegan took the loss for the Senators.

Clyman 3  Senators 0  The Senators came up short on Saturday, losing to their rival, the Clyman Canners.  Jeff Zielke pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out 7.  Jesse Christianson took the loss for the Senators.

Senators 12  Johnson Creek 1  The Madison Senators rolled to a 12 -1 victory at Utica field on Saturday afternoon.  Jesse Christianson gave up one run in a complete game victory, strking out 11 batters.  Pat Hawker had a three run triple and Joe Herfel and Tim Botham both drove in two runs. 

Senators 8  Neosho 0 

Senators 4  Watertown 1   Jesse Christianson gave up one run on just four hits in 8 innings of work as the Senators beat Watertown in a Rock River League baseball game on Saturday.  Robbie Dyson picks up his first save in  one inning of work.  On the offensive side Joe Herfel had three singles and batted three runs in for the Senators.  Mike Finnegan matched Herfel with a 3x3 day including a double and one RBI.  The Senators move t 4-1 in the Rock River League and will face off against South Division rival the Neosho Rockets next Saturday at Utica Field

Senators 10  Ashippun 7   The senators escape Ashippun with a win over the Mudcats on Sunday.  Trailing 5-4 in top of the fith the Senators banged out five runs on four hits including a Josh Schafer three run home run.   Joe Herfel earned the win in his first start of the season while Mike Finnegan picks up the save.  The Senators move to 3-1 in the Rock River League

Senators  6   Laurel Tavern 2  The Senators found a way to beat their city rival on Saturdayin Utica.  The Senators managed to score 6 runs on just 6 hits and had solid pitching by 7 th year player Jesse Christianson. Christianson who went 8 innings picked up his 2nd win and moves to 2-1 in the Rock River League. Mike Finnegan, who pitched got theSenators on the board in the 5th inning with an rbi double.  First year Senator Jeff Maurer also had 2 rbi's in the game.  The Senators are now 2-1 in the RRL. 

Madison Shoe Box 4    Senators 3

Madison Shoe Box outlasted the Senators in an extra inning battle on Saturday.  The Senators trailed the entire game until Josh Schafers RBI single in the bottom half of the ninth inning with 2 outs tied it at 3 a piece.  Following a scoreless tenth, the Madison Shoe Box scored 1 run in the top of the 11th to seal the victory.  Jesse Christianson went 9 stong innings and finished with 13 strike outs in a no decision.  Mike Finnegan picked up his first loss of the season.  The Senators drop to 1-1 in the Rock River League while the Shoe Box moves to 1-0.  The Senators have a double weekend as they will host the Madison Laurel Tavern(0-1) on Saturday and travel to face the Ahippun Mudcats (1-1) on Sunday.  Both game times are at 1:30.  See you there!!

Senators  8   Pardeeville 3

The Senators open up the Rock River League season with an 8-3 victory over the Pardeeville Braves on Saturday.  Josh Fleck hit a 3 run home run with no outs in the 3rd inning which put the Senators in front 6-0.  First year Senator Jeff Moeller gets his first victory after relieving Jesse Christianson in the 5th inning.  Moeller had 8 strike outs and combined with Christianson for a total of 14 strikeouts.  Mike Hewitt and Pat Hawker both contributed with RBI doubles.  The Senators are now 1-0 (3-0) and will host the defending South Division Champions the Madison Shoe Box on Saturday.  The game will be played at 1:30 at beautiful Utica Field.

Senators Win   The Senators pull off the weekend sweep with a 12-4 win over Utica in the Stoughton Invite preseason tourney championship game.  Up next for the Senators is the Rock River League opener.  The Senators will host defending league champions the Clyman Canners on Saturday at 1:30 in Utica, WI.

Senators Win Preseason Opener!                                                                                             The Senators outlasted Stoughton Home Talent on Saturday in the first round of the Stoughton Invite.  The Senators jumped to a 2 - 0 lead after three innings and never looked back.  The Merchants had a five run 6th inning but came up short as the Senators prevailed 8-7 in the preseason clash.  The Senators pitched by comittee with appearences by Jesse Christianson, Robbie Dison, Pat Hawker, and Mike Finnegan.  Mike Finnegan had a solo homerun in the 3rd inning. The Senators play in the championship game on Sunday against Utica Home Talent at 1:30 at Stoughton High School.

2007 Rock River Playoffs


Jesse Christianson won threw a complete game 5 hitter as the Senators beat Juneau 6-1 in an elimination playoff contest. Justin Fedie's 2 out 2 run home run in the 5th inning was all the Senators would need as they were able to hold Juneau to 1 run with solid pitching and defense. The Senators move to 2-1 in the 2007 playoffs and will travel to Clyman on Sunday for the South Division championship. The Senators will have to beat Clyman 2 times because Clyman is still undefeated playoffs. The winner will face off against the North Division Champions in a 3 game series.

2007 Rock River Regular Season

Senators 3 Juneau 1
Mike Finnegan pitched a complete game 5 hitter as the Senators beat the visiting Juneau County Seaters 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The victroy clinched the forth and final play off spot. The Senators finish the regular season 11-7 and have made the play-offs 4 of the last 5 seasons. They will play at Madison Shoebox on Saturday and host the the Clyman Canners on Sunday.

The Senators got a much needed win as they had 15 hits in an 11-2 victory against the Madison Laurel Tavern. Jesse Christianson pitched to win and improves to 5-1 in the Rock River League. Jeremy Winters had a 2 run home run in a 4 run first inning for the Senators. The Senators improve to 9-6 in the Rock River League and travel to Watertown next Sunday.

Senators 5 Neosho 11
Neosho jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and went on to win 11-5 in a Rock River South Division match up. Josh Page got the loss in his first Rock River League start. The Senators have now dropped to 8-6 and have lost their 3rd straight contest. The travel back home to face their city rival Laurel Tavern on Saturday at Utica Field.

Senators 6 Ashippun 9
The Senators drop their second straight in a 9-6 lost to the host Ashippun Mudcats. The Senators were unable to get the bats going and lacked timely hitting. They now drop to 8-5 in the Rock River League south division.

Senators 1 Clyman 7
The Senators dug theirselves in an early hole falling behind 3 -0 in the 1st inning. That was all Clyman needed as they went on to a 7-1 rout of visiting Senators. Jarod Staudenmeyer pitched 3 and 1/3 and recieved the loss as Tim Landron threw 7 innings allowing only 1 run.
The Senators are now 8-4 in the Rock River League.

Senators 12 Johnson Creek 10
The Senators found a way on Saturday afternoon as they came from behind to knock of the visiting Johnson Creek Pioneers. The Senators trailed 10-5 going into the bottom of the 7th and scored 6 runs to take the lead 11-10. That’s all Josh Schafer would need as he came in and shut the door in the 8th and 9th inning. He struck out 3 and allowed 1 hit as he picked up his first Rock River League save. Jesse Christianson gets another notch in the win column and moves to 4-1 in the Rock River League. Jake Soule was 3-3 with 2 Rbi's and 3 runs scored and Mike Finnegan was 2-4 with 3 runs scored. The Senators are now 8-3 and will travel to Clyman next Sunday to battle the Clyman Canners at 1:30.

Senators 11 Pardeeville 3
The Senators capped of the weekend with a 11-3 victory over the Pardeeville Braves. They scattered 17 hits and used a 6 run 5th inning to solidify the victory on Sunday afternoon. Justin Fedie hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning and drove in 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Joe Herfel was 4-5 on the day with 2 RBI's and pitched 3 innings. Steve Nelson added 3 hits and 3 RBI's on the day. Jared Staudenmeyer moved to 2-0 in the Rock River League as he went 6 innings and struck out 6. The Senators move to 7-3 and will host Johnson Creek at Utica Field on Saturday at 12:00.


Senators 13 Juneau 4
The Madison Senators pounded out 15 hits as they beat the Juneau County Seaters 13-4 in a South Division showdown. Juneau took a 4-3 lead in the 3rd inning which sparked a 5 run 4th by the Senators. All 5 runs were scored with 2 outs. Josh Fleck was 4-5 with 3 RBI's on the day. Jesse Christianson pitched a complete game allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 3. The Senators are back at it on Sunday as they travel to Pardeeville to challenge the Braves at 1:30.



Senators 1 Shoebox 2
The Senators were ice cold on Saturday as they squeezed out 2 hits and failed to score a run after the 1st inning. The Madison Shoebox had a 1 out single in the 9th which scored the game winning run. The Senators dropped to 5-3 in the Rock River League. They travel to Juneau next Saturday to battle the division leaders at 1:30.


Senators 4 Watertown 2
Jarod Staudenmeyer went 8 innings in his first start as a Senator as the Senators beat division leaders Watertown 4-2 on Saturday at Utica Field. The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the first with a sacrafice fly by Josh Fleck. They would not look back as Staudenmeyer set the pace on the mound and Joe Herfel closed it in the ninth to get the save. The Senators have now won 4 straight in the Rock River League and look to take on city rival Madison Shoe Box on Saturday at 1:30 @ Utica Field in beautiful Utica, Wisconsin.


Senators 7 Laurel Tavern 5

The Senators outlasted the Madison Laurel Tavern Sunday afternoon at Robin Roberts Field on the campus of MATC. In a game with four lead changes, the Senators missed several early opportunities, but prevailed with late inning clutch hitting and steady pitching by Mike Finnegan. First year Senator Jarod Staudenmeyer, who was 3-5 on the day, hit a game tying 2 RBI single in the top of the eight. In the top of the ninth, Joe Herfel who was 2-5 on the day, hit a 2 out, 2 run single that would solidify the victory for the Senators. Finnegan allowed 2 earned runs in a complete game performance, and he moves to 2-0 in the Rock River League. The win brings the Senators to 4-2(7-3) in the Rock River League. Next up for the Senators is the division leading Watertown Cardinals at Utica Field on Saturday, June 9th at 2:30.


Senators 2 Neosho 0

The Senators finish up a weekend sweep capped off by a dominant pitching performance by Mike Finnegan. Mike did not allow a runner passed second base as he struck out 13 and walked zero to lead the Senators to a victory over division rival Neosho. Justin Fedie who was 2-4 in the game had the eventual game winning rbi in the 3rd inning with a double off of Neosho pitcher Ryan Suhr. Josh Fleck followed in the 5th with an rbi single. The Senators are now 3-2(5-3) in the Rock River League and look to improve as they travel to MATC to play city rival Madison Laurel Tavern on June 3rd at 1:30.


Senators 12 Ashippun 5

The Senators got one back in the win column today with a 12 - 5 victory over the visiting Ashippun Mudcats. Ashippun, who got off to hot start scoring 3 runs off of 4 hits in the first inning, struggled to string anything together after the first inning. The Senators rattled of 12 consecutive runs helped by a 3 run shot by Tim Botham and multiple RBI days by Jared Staudemeyer, Joe Herfel, and Jake Soule. Jesse Christianson pitched 7 solid innings and ended with 5 strike outs and scattered 7 hits which brings his record to 2-1 in the Rock River League. The Senators are now 2-2 in the Rock River League and will host the Neosho Rockets on Sunday at 2:30 at Utica Field.


Johnson Creek 9 Senators 8

The Senators are coming off of a tough loss to Johnson Creek which brings there record to 1-1(3-2) in the Rock River League. This defensive struggle was filled with 7 total errors along with 5 home runs. The Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. This was the last lead the Senators would have. Johnson Creek rattled of 7 consecutive runs. The Senators rallied back to pull within 1 run but came up short in the 9th inning. Mid reliever and first year Senator Josh Page pitched 4 solid relief innings giving up only 1 earned run in his pitching debut. The Senator’s home runs came from Justin Fedie, Josh Fleck and Jeremy Winter.
