Posted Mar 28/16 - Stephens help[s Lakers overcome 4 run Deficit

Lakers defeats Butler County 8-5

Ben Stephens went 3-3 at the plate, sparking Lakers to an 8-5 victory in seven innings over Butler County on Saturday.

He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the third and fifth innings.

Jackson Best got the win in relief for Lakers. Best pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs.

Smoth was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

Butler County jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Graham singled to ignite Butler County's offense, before Phelps singled, plating Ward. The scoreboard lit up again for Butler County when Parker and Phelps scored on a two-run single by Cameron.

Lakers never surrendered the lead after the fifth inning, scoring four runs on an RBI double by Evan Roy, an error, and a two-run single by Stephens.

One run in the top of the sixth helped Butler County close its deficit to 8-5. An RBI double by Burden set off Butler County rally. The Butler County threat came to an end when Best finally got Parker to fly out.

Henry Bertram leads Lakers to 6-4 victory

Henry Bertram powered Lakers at the plate and on the rubber Saturday, willing Lakers to a 6-4 victory over Lincoln County.

Bertram racked up two RBIs on two hits for Lakers. He singled in the second and fifth innings.

Bertram handled Lincoln County's lineup with ease, racking up seven strikeouts. Bertram allowed two earned runs, three hits and one walk over four innings.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.

Lakers pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning. Lakers scored on a two-run single by Bertram off Caudill, bringing home Hayes Coffey and Grant Hadley.

The bottom of the second saw Lakers take an early lead, 3-0. A single by Bertram, plating Hadley started the inning off. Lakers added more runs when Bertram scored on an error and Blakeman scored on an RBI single by Brayton Scales.

Lincoln County got two-run rallies in the third inning and the fifth. In the third, Lincoln County scored on a two-run single by Long, scoring Caudill and Smith.

The fifth spelled defeat for Lincoln County, as Lakers grabbed the lead for good. More runners rounded the bases on.

Brayton Scales's effort not enough to carry Lakers past Lincoln county, 1-0

Brayton Scales gave up one hit, but Lakers still fell to Lincoln county 1-0 in seven innings on Friday.

Rigsby recorded the win for Lincoln county. He tossed six innings of shutout ball. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered three hits.

Zach Porter was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.

The fourth inning saw Lincoln county score its only run on the day on a sacrifice fly by Rigsby.

Lakers uses big fifth inning to beat Casey County, 13-3

A seven-run explosion in the fifth inning carried Lakers to a 13-3 win in five innings over Casey County on Monday.

Lakers scored in the fifth on an error, a groundout by Levi Blakeman, a two-run error, a two-run error, and a three-run triple by Grant Hadley.

Kaleb Harris led Lakers' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the fourth inning.

Hadley had an impressive outing against Casey County's lineup. Casey County managed just one hit off of Hadley, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out three during his five innings of work.

Hines ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed 13 runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.

Lakers never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning, scoring six runs on a groundout by Henry Bertram, three singles, and an RBI triple by Harris.
