VANCOUVER ISLAND MIDGET A ZONE TEAMS INFORMATION AND TRYOUTS

For players still wanting to play competitive hockey, Vancouver Island will play host to four zone Midget A teams (south, mid-south, mid-north and north). The deadline for registration to these teams has been extended to Aug 15 at 5:00 pm. The forms and VIAHA Midget A Zone information can be downloaded on the HANDOUTS page.  Please contact your zone representative directly if you have any questions.

 

BC HOCKEY MIDGET AAA 2010-11
In June BC Hockey announced the evaluation dates for tryouts for the Female Midget AAA teams as well as the selection of head coaches. If you have questions about the Midget AAA league or the Vancouver Island Impact, please forward any questions or queries to Ian Turner at email address turni1@shaw.ca.

League Format
The league will be comprised of a home and away series concept that includes 5 home and 5 away, and two game weekends exchanged with each team in the league. This will result in 20 league games. Additionally there will be two Super Weekends to be held in the area of Kamloops and Kelowna that will commence on Friday mornings and will include one game against each team in the league. This will result in an additional 10 league games. The other event of note will be the All-Star weekend which will, in addition to the All-Star game, include three league games. This brings the league total to 33 games and addresses complaints of too few games and the very compressed competition periods during last season.  As well, costs should be reduced as many of the series weekends should be able to be completed with only one night of hotels. The schedule in it's current format contains 4 free weekends prior to Christmas and 2 free weekends after Christmas, and will have no league play during Christmas. The league schedule will be available prior to the tryout weekend (August 14-15).

Playoffs
Playoffs will commence in mid March. The league standings teams ranked 1st and 2nd will have a bye and the 3rd place team will play the 6th place team and 4th place team will play the 5th place team. The higher ranked team will be home team in each playoff series. This addresses the complaint that the league standings do not mean anything as the lower ranked team will bear the cost and time of travel during the playoffs.

Tournaments
Our intention is to apply to play in the Notre Dame Midget AAA tournament. There are few additional tournament opportunities in western Canada and a group is working towards the creation of a Midget AAA tournament in Nanaimo.
