In memory of former player and coach David Applebaum
2010, 2011 LMBA
After a rather lackluster sub .500 regular season - the Monarchs clutched up for the playoffs.
A convincing quarter final win was followed up with a bizarre error filled 3.5 hour semi final.
In the championship game MVP award winner Dave Walsh pitched a superb 2 hitter over 5 innings.
Mop - up man Bill Robinson pitched the final four, got in a few jams but showed his mental toughness to get himself out.
Number 1 fan, was last years MVP, George Popov who was unavailable due to a severe shoulder injury suffered in the semi final.
Big hit of the game was a bomb to center field off the bat of Ken Matsubara.
Kudos to Chris B., Terry S., Jim O, and Don W. for playing well in spite of nagging injuries.
WAY TO GO MONARCHS!
Posted Sep 19/10 - 2010 LMBA over 45 Champions
|The Richmond Monarchs came up big with a 6-5 victory over the juggernaut Surrey Royals Saturday in the over 45 championship game.
Facing adversity, without the ever dependable Paul Rogers behind the plate, the Monarchs came together with 9 players for the victory.
Dave Walsh filled in for Rogers behind the dish and came through in flying colors.
The Monarchs built an early lead and never looked back. We let the Royals back in the game after fumbling through the 6th inning, but shut the door the final 3 innings.
George Popov pitched 5 superb innings which earned him the Warren Karsgaard Player Of The Game award.
Billy Robinson pitched the final 4 innings finding his zone for innings 7,8,9. He was particularly strong in innings 8,9 keeping the Royals off balance and off the bases.
Chris Biasutti made a highlight catch in left field robbing Surrey of 2 sure runs. Everyone contributed in the Monarch victory. A great way to end the season.
A special thank-you to Warren Karsgaard for managing the team and all his efforts.
Congratulations to the Surrey Royals on a fantastic season. Well done guys.
Looking forward to 2011 already....
Monarchs vs. Royals
Monarchs 3 Royals 3
A near capacity crowd of approx.15 were in attendance to witness another
exciting thriller at Latrace.
Both teams battled for 11 innings to an eventual 3-3 saw-off.(time constraints)
This game featured from both clubs some outstanding pitching, outstanding fielding, but
Also an inordinate number of k's.
Starring for the Monarchs were the usual suspects: Jim, Terry, Dave, George,Bill.
Dave Rossi made an acrobatic catch in center, which was ruled a drop.(bad call)
Some of the Royals remarked that it was the best game they've been in all season.
As a result, Royales were able to keep their undefeated record intact, while
the Monarchs hung on to their undefeated at home record.
Congrats to coach Ray and the rest of the Royals for a great regular season!
Monarchs vs. Legends
Monarchs 5 Legends 4
Stellar pitching from both teams led to another close contest.
Legends out hit the Monarchs and were unlucky to lose.
A outstanding catch by Kenny M. in right field, and some excellant infield play kept
the Monarchs in the game.
A few costly errors by the Legends in the 9th.sealed the deal for the Monarchs.
Monarch's vs. Legends

Legends 11 Monarchs 4
It must have been too early in the morning for the Monarchs boys-who went up by a score of 3-1, only to be decimated by a score of 11-4. The legends hit the ball hard, but an error-fest by the Monarchs ( at least 6 ) inflated the score
in the Legends favor even more.
Lets hope that the boys forget this one quickly and play some better ball next time out!
Next up Buzzards at Latrace 5:00 P.M. July 17
Tuesday July 6 2010
In a game marred by defensive miscues, and neither team playing their best,
a 7-7 final should be considered a fitting score.
Monarchs came from behind in a
time shortened game-with
Dave S. clutching up with a two run single to deadlock the game at
7-7 in the 8th.
The 9th inning
was not played due to time constrains.

Monarchs vs. Eagles
Monarchs 4 Eagles 1
Monarchs came out on top in a game with not a lot of offence; however a couple of
rbi doubles, and an rbi sac fly sealed the win.
Dave S.in his 1st. start on the hill, with the help of some solid defence ,fared well.
Next game July 10 vs.Legends South Surrey.

Monarchs vs. Legends
Monarchs 9 Legends 2
After a slow start Monarchs prevailed in the latter innings with key hits from
Jim, Kenny, and Dave W.
George P. pitched a strong 5 innings giving up one run, and Dave W.
in relief giving up another. A couple of defensive gems from Jim O.
at third helped give the Monarchs a psychological edge.
In fairness to the legends they were playing with a depleted roster due to various injuries.

Monarchs vs. Buzzards
Monarchs 11 Buzzards 7
Monarchs scored 4 runs on six hits in the 1st. to get off to a good start.
Both teams hit the ball pretty well, however some throwing errors on both sides, and some questionable calls marred an otherwise decent game.
Defensive star of the game goes to Chris in right field for tracking down some hard hit balls from the Buzzards.
Next up Monarchs vs. Legends Wed. June 23rd. 7pm. south surrey

Monarch's vs Stars
Stars 3 Monarchs 2
Yet another good 5 inning outing from pitcher George Popov, who with the help of some excellent defense, has not been scored upon for 10 consecutive innings over the last two games.
With the ever dangerous Ken Lorenz and his usual aggressive base running, and a bottom of the 9th walk off single - the Stars were victorious.
Kudos to both teams for a very well played game.

Monarchs vs Legends
Monarch's 9 Legends 0
A lights-out pitching performance from starter George Popov and 4 innings of sterling relief from Dave Walsh paved the way to the Monarch's 1st. shut out victory of the season
Defensive herculean efforts from Mike Barnsley, Jim Olenynick, and a circus catch from Dale in left field helped calm the Legend's potent bats.
Multiple hit nights were enjoyed by Dave Simpson, George Popov, and Mike Barnsley
(hope I am not forgetting anyone).
Total Team Effort!!!!
