Pembina Hills Minor Baseball Pitching Camp was a Hit

Pembina Hills Minor Baseball League hosted a very successful annual Spring Pitching Clinic in Pilot Mound on Sunday, May 3rd.  The Pilot Mound Arena venue was ideal as the cool windy weather forced the participants indoors.

However, the ambiance was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as the ball players learned and fine-tuned those skills from Rodney Ledochowski, and his daughter Jade.

The sessions throughout the day had players from Swan Lake, Pilot Mound, Bruxelles, Notre Dame de Lourdes, Treherne, Glenboro, Crystal City, Manitou, Holland, Carberry, Somerset, Mariapolis and Glenboro taking part.

Feedback from the participants and their parents was extremely positive with adjectives of “fantastic," “great," “awesome” and “best ever!”

Challenger Baseball Comes to Manitoba

It is a first for Manitoba.  The 2015 Baseball Manitoba Challenger Baseball Day has officially come to life, and will be making its debut in Winnipeg.

Any youth, 18 years and under, with cognitive or physical disabilities will get an opportunity to enjoy the thrill of playing baseball, and being part of a team.

This program allows them to develop physical and social skills as well as garner some of the benefits of participation in baseball at a level structured to their abilities.  These games are played in a fun, safe environment where no score is kept.

Baseball Manitoba in partnership with the Goldeyes and the University of Winnipeg UNITED Health and Rec Plex, is hosting a Challenger Baseball Day on Saturday, June 6, 2015. The day will include a baseball game at the University of Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m., which is an indoor, safe, facility.  All participants and volunteers will receive tickets to the Winnipeg Goldeyes home game at Shaw Park that evening at 6:00 p.m.

The Goldeyes will be promoting this event in as many ways as they can through tickets, in game announcements, videos on the large screen at the game, baseball buddies, etc.

Manitoba’s Challenger Baseball Committee is looking for participants, eighteen years and under to take part, and volunteers of any age to assist with delivering this program. We are hoping that individuals and organizations would be able to connect us with both future baseball players and helpers. If interested please contact Jason Miller at Manitoba Baseball Association.

Pembina Hills Minor Baseball Association Elects New Executive

There was a changing of the guard as the Pembina Hills Minor Baseball Association elected a new executive to their board.

At the 2014 AGM meeting, a motion was passed to adopt an order of communities within the league to fill executive positions on a rotational basis. Thus at the April 13th AGM, Glenn Lowry of Darlingford stepped up to the Chairperson’s role, previously held by Mike Johnson of Baldur.

Glenn, who has been a long time baseball advocate and supporter of minor baseball, will very capably fill this role. The Vice Chair elected came from the town grouping second on the rotation list.  Filling this position, which was previously held by Jesse Janz of Glenboro, was Chad Foster of Somerset.  Chad comes with excellent baseball and organizational credentials.

The Secretary/Treasurer/Registrar remains Patti Hacault.  Committee representatives to MBA include Mike Johnson (Competition/High Performance Committee) - Baldur, Robert Gudnason (Grass Roots Committee) - Glenboro, Corey Anderson (Grass Roots Committee) - Glenboro, Cory Nakonechny (Coaching Association Committee) – Carberry and Patti Hacault (Girls Baseball Committee) – Bruxelles.

The 2015 convenors for the different age levels are: 9U Cory Anderson (Glenboro), 11U Robert Gudnason (Glenboro), 13U Melanie Chevalier (Swan Lake), 15U Blaine Boyle (Portage La Prairie) and 18U Robert Mc Leod (Mather).
