A team with big goals, has even more work in front of them.

A team with big dreams, has even more sacrifice in store for them.
A team that doesn't think they're the best today, has to have courage to admit that, and the strength of will to overcome that.

Do we have the willingness to work, the ability to sacrifice and the strength of will to pass other teams?  We will see.

It started at your first practice.  It continues today.   *reprinted with permission

           TEAM, TEAM, TEAM!

Tonight, we're going to have a GREAT practice.  We will work hard and learn a lot.  We will improve brick by brick, and create a structure that’s as strong as possible. Each practice we add more supports, more bricks, more protections….each practice, each day together will make us bigger and stronger.
Then our scrimmages and tournaments are storms that loosen some bricks, crack others, and blow others away!  So we rebuild.  We rebuild even stronger to try to withstand the harshest storm we could possibly encounter. Will we withstand every storm this season?  Probably not. We will be damaged by some storms?  Definitely.  Will we come out of most storms unharmed?  We’re planning on it!   But we will build and rebuild and build and rebuild until it's time for the next storm........and then we'll see how we hold up!  :)

There are only two outcomes:

Either we beat the storm.  Or the storm beats us.

We plan on beating every storm possible.

We start tonight!

                            MEET THE COACHES!

This year we are privileged to have 5 of our coaches returning and 5 new, but experienced, coaches joining us!  The upcoming season is going to be phenomenal.  I would like to dedicate this season to COACH EMERITUS DEBBIE HALLSTEAD, to whom I owe a debt I can never repay.  Debbie is the former Director and Head Coach of NRV.  She worked in the Engineering Department of Virginia Tech and was working in the building next to Norris Hall when the tragic shootings took place.  Debbie has relocated to Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and this club misses her very much.  It was her patient coaching, along with 4 other coaches for this club; Coach Barger, Coach Houser, Coach King and Coach Martinez, that helped to set my daughter on her path to the Marietta College Volleyball Team.  I am in awe of these people as they dedicate themselves to the sport of volleyball and help shape the lives of our young daughters. Congratulations to Pierre Ellis and Susan Smith, recipients of the New River Valley Coach of the Year awards.  Susan and Pierre were also assistant coaches of Salem High School Varsity Volleyball and helped lead Salem to the AA State semi-finals.

They coached for the club this year from January through April and took on two teams simultaneously. (age groups 15 and 16)  They had 19 girls and took the two teams to 9 tournaments, sometimes coaching back-to-back tournaments.  They did an outstanding job coaching two teams and helping and inspiring girls from all over the Roanoke
and New River Valleys in the sport of volleyball.  They will be featured
in SoSalem, the Vinton Messenger, and NRV newspapers!

Administered through the regions of the USAV Junior program, NRV Junior Olympic Volleyball Club offers girls 18 and under the opportunity to develop and improve their volleyball skills while playing and competing with the regions top competitive clubs and players. The purpose of the club is to further the growth of the sport for girls in Southwest Virginia, support the USAV Junior program, and develop each athlete's skill to the fullest extent while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.

The teams within this program compete in tournaments sanctioned by United States of America Volleyball (USAV) which is the governing body for volleyball in the USA. NRV is a member of the Old Dominion Region Volleyball Association. (ODR)

Our coaches are experienced in coaching at a high competitive level and are IMPACT certified. The players receive training in refereeing and scorekeeping and are certified by the USAV to work as well as play in tournaments. The teams compete in tournaments from January to May with tryouts in the fall.

Our goal is to provide each player with a highly competitive level of coaching and playing experience, to promote teamwork and sportsmanship, to develop and maintain advanced skills, prepare athletes for college teams, and to have fun while competing.
