The MC Flames 12U girls traveled to Pulaski this weekend to play in the Pulaski Shootout Tournament. On Saturday in pool play the Flames faced the NRV Sparks in their 1st game on saturday. In a strong physical game the Sparks won 38-23. The Flames were lead by Madison Shumaker with 8 pts. Later in the day the Flames took on the Roanoke Roar- Orange. The Flames picked up after a close 1st half and won 38-26 in their first win of the tournament season. With strong defense and a more team play atmosphere they were lead by Madison Shumaker again with 11 points and 8 points from Meghan Epperly. With that win they ended up with number 1 seed for the elimination round on Sunday.
The MC Flames started their 2010 schedule of in Christiansburg, VA at the NRV Jam. With 2 teams consisting of primarly new players to AAU both teams faced a difficult weekend . The 12U team had to play up to 13U due to shortage of teams. First game turned into a no show and changed the entire weekend outlook. The 12u played a 2 game setup with NRV Storm 13u with winner take all. In the first game MC Flames started out with a strong defensive stand untill turnovers became their downfall with a lose of 24- 11. In the later game of the day they started out the same way with a great defense in the 1st half to trail 17-10 in the break. But the same problems came back to haunt them to let the game get out of hand to finish the game 45-15. This group of girls have more than what was shown in this outing, it's just a matter of bringing it together. Nerves played a big part in this tournament
