Posted Jan 10/13 - Congratulations Icies!

Icies Hammer - North Bergen High School

Hudson County - Player of the year!

Icies - The 6-foot Sophomore averaged 15 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this past season leading North Bergen to a 16-9 record including a 14 point, 10 rebound performance in a 47-46 victory over Morris Knolls in the first round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 tournament.  At such a young age, Icies has become a confident and feared post presence.

Icies' game has improved dramatically over her Freshman campaign during which she received recognition as a Second Team Hudson County player.

We will see many more powerful performances from this young sophomore in the years ahead.  Stay tuned.

Posted Jan 3/13 - Congratulations Kelly!

Kelly Douglas - Clifton High School

Kelly, a sophomore, is an up and coming player at Clifton High School.

She is leading the Mustangs in scoring this season.  Kelly is a true triple threat.  She can take the ball to the hoop or fire up the three pointer or using her size and strength, post up smaller guards or even post players.  She can run the point, sees the floor very well, and can deliver the pass to her teammates, where and when they need it.  She makes everyone around her a better player.  Defensively, Kelly can cover guards or with her size forwards.

***ALL PASSAIC COUNTY - FIRST TEAM!***

The league will see many more good things from Kelly and we look forward to working with her as she continues to develop into a league leader.

Posted Jan 2/13 - Congratulations Jenna!

Jenna Ramos - Bergen Tech High School

Jenna, a sophomore, is a young player with a large upside.

A starter for the Knights, she has used her strength, both physical and mental to help lead her team in a successful 2013 campaign.

Jenna is a well rounded player, she can handle the ball, use her strength to take it to the hoop or fire off a three pointer if left open.  She has the stamina and physical attributes to play both sides of the ball and shows poise under pressure.

Expectations are big for Jenna and she continues to deliver on those expectations and she will only get better in her games and seasons ahead.

Posted Jan 1/13 - Congratulations Ava!

Ava Skinner - Cresskill High School

Ava has become such a confident and consistent player and leader.  Her game has improved so much both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  She has greatly improved her ball skills and has consistently broken the press and as such, can run the point or play the 2 or 3.

Ava is the leading scorer for the Cougars this season and is approaching 1,000 points!

***1,000 Points Reached 02/28/13!***

She is a consistent scorer and can take the ball to the hoop or drain the three.  She has very good defensive footwork and takes pride in her defensive effort.  Ava often finds herself defending the opponents best player.

Ava is drawing a lot of attention from college coaches who see what an asset she would be to their program!

Posted Mar 6/12 - Congratulations Margi!
Margi Rivara - Glen Rock High School

Margi scored her 1,000th point this season, only the third player in Glen Rock team history to accomplish the feat.  She is a terrific shooter both set and off the dribble.

Margi's quick release forces defences to focus their attentions on her and she drew the attentions of every team she faced this season and still, she was able to score more than 500 points, including 40 three pointers and 69 free throws.  With her leaping ability, Margi is not only a prolific scorer but she is also leathal on the boards.

A 5'9" guard, Margi has both an inside and outside game, she can take the ball to the rack, has a lethal pull up and can drill a fade away.  Her confidence has grown over the years developing her into a team leader for the Gazelles who gained the admiration of her teammates for her attitude, focus and heart.

Margi has demonstrated a full array of offensive weapons, on display each game against the best teams in her league while averaging 20+ points per game ranking her 15th in the State!

Posted Mar 5/12 - Congratulations Kim!
Kimberly Douglass - Clifton High School

As the team's point guard, Kim lead the Mustangs in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game, with a dozen three pointers and dropping in 54 free throws, while averaging 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game.  Known for her toughness and scrappy play, Kim's resolve and heart make her one of the leading point guards in Passaic County.

At 5'9" Kim is a difficult cover at the point but she shows her versatility by also displaying her skills at the 2 or 3 spot and her lethal shooting makes her a player opponents must always keep an eye on and in order to beat the Panthers, defenses know they must stop Kim.

As team leader, Kim pushed her team through a difficult schedule and is headed to Mt. St. Mary College where we expect and look forward to seeing her excel at the next level.

Posted Mar 4/12 - Congratulations Brianne!
Brianne Traub - Eastern Christian High School

Brianne, 2010-2011 player of the year (Star-Ledger) the pure offensive machine, a 2,000 point scorer for Eastern Christian (2,158), 600 in her senior season!  She demonstrated her offensive prowess playing for the Gazelles last season and brought both her incredibly lethal shooting ability combined with her high basketball IQ.  A big guard with ball skills, attitude and confidence, Brianne continually put that confidence on display, shooting the ball and finishing equally with the left or right hand.

Always one to quickly share the credit with her teammates, Brianne is a coaches dream, always eager to learn, extremely hard working and with a smile on her face.  First one in the gym, last one out.

Naturally, Brianne has taken her talent and skills to the next level with the University Sciences Blue Devils, named "CACC Rookie of the Year!".  Also voted to the CACC all conference, second team.  The sky's the limit for Bri.

Posted Apr 21/10 - Congratulations Andrea!
Andrea Innis

Hudson County player of the year:
After leading Secaucus as a forward for two years, 5-10 junior Andrea Innis moved over to point guard, where she still led the team in every offensive category.

“It was definitely different being the point guard, but my team really stepped up and made it easy,” said Innis. “I knew I could count on them to do the job.”

A three-year starter, Innis led Secaucus (21-5) with game averages of 18.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, five assists and 3.8 steals while guiding her team, which started five underclassmen, to the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 semifinals.

“I really was not looking to score,” said Innis. “I was looking to let everyone else score. I am proud that we were able to get so far this year with such a young team.”

After setting the school's single-season scoring record last year with 539 points, Innis is on track to set the school career scoring record of 1,791 points, set by Cory Roesing in 2007. She now has 1,324 points.

“That’s in the back of my mind, but I try not to focus on it," said Innis. "The team comes first. If the team does well, that's all that matters.”

"Andrea has been an invaluable member of our team for the past three years," said Secaucus coach John Sterling. "Her passion, commitment, and work ethic are the main reasons that we had such a successful season.”

A tribute to Coach Cecil King:

Being the original founder of the Gazelles, Coach King is the inspiration behind the NJ Gazelles.  He stepped forward in our time of need to help assist in setting up the program, offering his own Gazelles program and its resources to lay the groundwork.  Without Coach King, it would have been very difficult to get the NJ Gazelles aau program up and running.

Coach King embodies everything right about aau basketball.  He is a no-nonsense gentleman in the truest sense of the word.  A gentleman who stands so much taller than his stature might lead one to believe!  Thank you Coach King for leading by example.
