Game Notes: A second match up between Fitchburg and Pecatonica ended in the same result...a victory for the Vikings by more than ten runs.

In the 1st, Fitchburg got on the board first thanks to a single, a fielder's choice and an RBI-earning double hit to right field. However, Pecatonica starting pitcher, D. Conwell kept Fitchburg at 1 on the scoreboard for the next three innings, while allowing only one runner reach base on balls. Aside from strikeouts, Pecatonica fielders also played a role in those no-hit innings with putouts by third-baseman, J. Scoville and first-baseman, N. Loyd (with an assist from shortstop, J. Hendrickson.).

Meanwhile, Pecatonica took the lead in the bottom of the 1st thanks in part to an in-field single hit by J. Scoville down the third-base line and a 2 RBI-earning single to right centerfield by N. Loyd. Batters T. Gilson, J. Debord, J. Melvin, N. Spink, J. Hendrickson made it to base on balls. (Hendrickson would later hit the only other single for the Vikings in the 4th inning.)

But the game would be decided not by hitters, but by the pitchers, with Pecatonica scoring all 8 of its runs in the 3rd inning on walks, one hit batter (T. Gilson) and a sacrifice grounder by J. Melvin.

In the bottom of the 4th, Fitchburg defenders rallied to end the inning even though the Vikings loaded the bases.

In the top of the 5th, down by 11 runs and needed at least two to keep hopes alive, Fitchburg batters faced Pecatonica's relief pitcher, N. Loyd. Although the first batter reached first on an error, he was putout on the next play when N. Loyd fielded a grounder to second-baseman, J. Tollackson. The third batter grounded out at first base, manned by A. Kovacs, for out #2, and N. Loyd struck out the fourth batter for the final out of the game.
