Game Notes: The Pecatonica Viking defense kept Monticello scoreless in the first inning with three back-to-back outs. Then, Pec's T. Gilson led off the batters and earned a base on balls. Gilson would later score the first run of the game--and the only one of the 1st inning--on a double hit by L. McKeon.

In the top of the 2nd, Monticello would take the lead when batters loaded the bases on walks. A fourth walk brought in the team's first run and a sacrifice brought in another. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Vikings recovered the lead thanks to a triple hit by S. McVay and J. Tollakson's double.

In the 3rd, Monticello batters hit two singles, but were unable to score. However, Pecatonica batters would capitalize on several hits and a series of fielding errors to increase their lead. Despite two outs, batter M. Wedige reached first when Monticello's left center fielder dropped a high fly ball. After L. McKeon's single, a double to center field by J. Melvin would bring Wedige and McKeon across home plate. When N. Loyd was awarded first base on balls, two runners were again in a position to score. G. Daly hit a short grounder to the left of the mound and reached first on a fielder's choice when the pitcher attempted to get Melvin out at third. But the throw went wide, enabling Melvin to score. Then when J. Scoville hit a hard in-field grounder to the shortstop, Loyd ran for home. The call at the plate...Safe...because the catcher dropped the ball. Meanwhile, Daly had rounded second, prompting the catcher to throw to third. But after Monticello's third baseman missed the ball, Daly too would score.

In the 4th, Monticello's only score occurred when A. Hefty was able to dive past catcher N. Loyd after being caught in a squeeze play.

In the 5th, Monticello scored three runs on a series of walks and an error by Pecatonica's second baseman, G. Daly. But, with two outs, bases loaded and the go ahead run on first, J. Scoville fielded a grounder for an unassisted third out at first base. In the bottom of the 5th, Pecatonica responded with an RBI on C. Norton's sacrifice, and two RBI's on T. Gilson's single.

In the final inning, relief pitcher J. Hendrickson walked one batter, struck out two, before another hit a single toward third base. With two runners on base, Monticello's last batter struck out swinging.
