Game Notes: Walks and Hit batters spelled victory for New Glarus over the visiting Pecatonica Vikings.
Undefeated coming into the game, Pecatonica got on the scoreboard first when D. Conwell, who'd reached base on a single, scored on a single to right field by L. McKeon. (McKeon's RBI was the only one of the game.) But New Glarus would hold Pecatonica to that one run with an unassisted double play at first base.

In the bottom of the 1st, Pecatonica's starting pitcher J. Hendrickson struck out one batter, but walked two runs across home plate after a series of walks and one fielding error at second base loaded the bases. D. Conwell took the mound, with bases still loaded, to close out the inning by striking out two batters while allowing only one more run to score on a walk.

Down by two, Pecatonica got two runners on base with a single and a walk, but were unable to score in the 2nd. Excellent fielding by M. Wedige (with an assist from Conwell) prevented two runs with put outs at third base. But New Glarus seized the opportunity to increase their lead by loading the bases on walks, an error and a hit batter. The team would score one run on a walk, before Pecatonica's shortstop, C. Anderson, caught the final out of the inning.

In the top of the 3rd, Pecatonica batters suffered two strike outs before an error enabled J. Hendrickson to reach base. However, New Glarus' pitcher, R. McCoy easily fielded a short grounder for the third out at first base, preventing Hendrickson from scoring. Then when Pecatonica's pitcher, L. McKeon, took the mound in the bottom of the 3rd, New Glarus again capitalized on walks. Despite two strike outs, New Glarus batters circled the diamond and scored three runs on walks and an error at second base. When M. Wedige took the mound for Pecatonica, he allowed one more run to score on a walk before striking out the last batter to close out the inning.

Pecatonica loaded the bases on two walks and an error, but three strikeouts prevented them from scoring in the top of the 4th. Pecatonica pitcher M. Wedige's two strikeouts and assist to first-baseman, N. Loyd, kept New Glarus runners off the bases in the bottom of the 4th. New Glarus maintained its 8-to-1 lead over the Vikings, but in the 5th, Pecatonica would rally to score two runs on a series of walks and one single, while keeping New Glarus off the scoreboard.

With the score 8-to-3 in the top of the 6th, Pecatonica had one last chance to overtake New Glarus' lead. J. Hendrickson, C. Norton, and C. Anderson...the first three batters up...made it to base on balls before D. Conwell struck out swinging. Next up, M. Wedige watched the fourth ball sail past on a full count to reach first and bring J. Hendrickson across home plate. C. Norton would cross the plate next when L. McKeon reached first base on balls. Then New Glarus would get out #2 when G. Daly was called out on strikes, but with bases still loaded, C. Anderson would walk across home when batter, N. Loyd, was awarded first base on four straight balls. The score was 8-to-6, with the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first, when a pop fly to second base was initially dropped but picked up for a force-out at second. That ended the game. (The runner on third crossed home plate, but that run didn't count.) The final score...8-to-6 New Glarus...Pecatonica's first loss of the season.
