Game Notes: This wasn't the way we expected things to go today. It was a tough first round for us. We had to make some adjustments losing three of our starters to other committments for the week. We jumped on Melrose early with Matt Garvin earning an early walk and Jordan Trisco driving him in. We gained some valid learning experiences from today's game. Melrose hit the ball hard their first two at bats forcing us to make great plays in the outfield. Some early miscues in the field led them to an early 6-1 lead in the first. Walks and errors is a bad mixture in baseball. Derek threw strikes and made us make the plays, but we didn't execute when we needed to extending the inning and forcing our pitcher to throw more. Melrose extended their lead again in the 2nd off an error and a hit. We managed to score two more in the 3rd and 4th innings bringing us within two. (5-7) Melrose went on a hitting streak in the 4th knocking the wind out of us. They hit the ball extremely well when they needed to. This is a game that we need play near perfect every outting. if we take away some errors we're right in the game. We had one of our best games at the plate. We only had two strikeouts and made solid contact almost every at bat. I'm proud of how well we competed with these bigger towns with young players. We started 4 freshmen, 1 8th grader, and 4 7th graders compared to their 9 freshmen. It says a lot about their character.
