The Thunder used a total team effort to beat Eagan in the league and season opener, 6-3. Righthander Alex Johnson pitched five solid innings to pick up the win. Johnson scattered six hits, yielding only one earned run and struck out six. Beau Jacobson earned his first save of the year, giving the Thunder two innings of scoreless relief. Jared Johnson hit a two-run homer in the first inning to ignite the offense. Rookie shorstop Josh Retka reached base four times with a single and three walks, and scored two runs from the lead-off spot. Derek Jacobson had three hits, including an RBI triple in the sixth. Beau Jacobson added two hits with a run scored and outfielder Ryan Stepan had two hits and an RBI. Catcher Chad Eul singled, walked and knocked in one, Brad Landgrebe and Andy Cutter each walked once. The Thunder faces Totino Gold to open the Eagle Eye Wood Bat Tournament Friday.
