Congratulations Bombers on a fantastic 2-0 start to the season! Our 25-10 win over the Ellisville Hornets was another total team effort, as every Bomber got at least 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI for the second game in a row. In fact, every Bomber collected at least two hits in a game in which we scored the maximum of 5 runs in 4 of our 7 innings.
Colin Schwab wins our SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for coming back into the game and ripping our first triple of the season only 1/2 inning after taking a hard grounder off of his chest and chin at 2nd base. Colin refused to quit after getting hurt, and responded with 4 hits in his last 4 at bats after the injury, including 2 runs and an RBI. Great game, Colin!
Nick Stemle and Matthew Wynn share our GOLD GLOVE AWARD for game 2. Nick had an excellent play at third base by catching a towering pop fly from the Hornets power hitter, and then alertly throwing to Michael Hojnacki at first base to complete a double play in the 2nd inning. Nick also had two putouts later in the game, and made a great play on a line drive off the wall in left field to hold the batter to a long single. Matthew Wynn is recognized with the GOLD GLOVE AWARD for making two great assists at 2nd base late in the game to help preserve the win. Honorable mention goes to Bennett Hacala for 4 putouts, including a stellar play to his right on a hard ground ball to first base in the 3rd inning; to Michael Hojnacki for recording 4 putouts at 1st base and 2 assists at pitcher; to Ryan Bode and Parker Higginbotham for recording assists from the outfield; and to Steven Delia and Brian Jones for recording putouts at 3rd base and 2nd base, respectively.
Jacob Miller and Michael Hojnacki share our SILVER SLUGGER AWARD in our win over the Hornets. Michael had 9 total bases in a dominating performance at the plate. Michael's 4 for 4 game included 3 doubles, 1 triple, 4 runs, and an RBI. Jacob Miller wins the SILVER SLUGGER AWARD for the 2nd game in a row by hitting the Bombers first Home Run of the season, a towering 3-run blast over the right field fence in the 5th inning which put the game out of reach from the Hornets. Jacob also added 2 doubles in a 3 for 4 night in which he had 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Honorable mention goes to Colin Schwab with 4 hits and 3 runs scored; to Parker Higginbotham and Artie DeGuire for also scoring 3 runs; and to Parker Higginbotham, Nick Stemle, Ryan Bode, Matthew Wynn, Brian Jones and Cullen Barone for each getting 3 hits in the game. Great overall effort, Bombers!
