After a long break due to poor weather and teams being afraid to play the TGTBTBC, the team returns this week to finish off the regular season. With nothing to report other than the Vikings making a huge mistake signing Father Time himself, Brett Favre, we have decided to examine the team's statistical leaders and make predictions of who will win each category.

Note: Hitting stats do not including games from May 31 but pitching and error stats have been included in the totals.

Pitching

Wins: Both Ryan and Larry are tied with 7 wins each (including an even distribution of wins for forfeits). This category is tough to predict as it is more than likely that the team will fail to win this week. In reality though, since Larry is out of town this week, we can safely predict that Ryan will either end up with more wins or end up with an identical 7-11 record as Larry.

Strikeouts and Strikeouts/IP: Currently Larry maintains a lead in both categories. Larry has registered 18 Ks compared to Ryan's total of 16. In addition, Larry's average of 0.27 K/IP is slightly great than Ryan's average of 0.24/IP. Having pitched almost identical numbers of innings, Ryan would need to register 5 Ks in the final two games (assuming 10 IP) to take the lead. We predict that ryan will come up short. Bill Torrance sports an impressive 1.0 K/IP but fails to make to list due to a lack of innings pitched....Makes you wonder what could have been!!!!

Fielding

Total Errors: This category should be easily won by Sheldon. With 25 errors in 23 games (1.09/game), more than double than Ryan S. in second place, no one should be able to top this number. We predict that Sheldon will not only win this category but also fail to lower his average to 1 per game by committing an error in the final inning of the season in a fifth inning collapse typical of TGTBTBC.

Hitting

Total Hits: There are realistically only 4 players that have a chance at this category. Kyle and Dennis lead the group with 32 hits each while Ryan B and Chris each have 29. We predict that Kyle and Dennis will end up tied for the lead but Kyle will claim his superiority due to less plate appearances.

Runs Scored: Kyle leads this category with three more runs scored (19) than a trio of players who have each scored 16. We predict that if someone is able to tie Kyle early on Wednesday, he will attempt to score on only a base hit and win the category by one run.

Base on Balls: Going into this week, Katie has reached base 6 times compared to Mel's 5 times. We predict that Katie will win this category as no one on the team is as qualified to stand around and take four balls as Katie!!!!

Singles: This category is being contested by two elite athletes. Ryan B. leads with 25 singles compared to Dennis' 23. With Ryan only have the power to hit the ball far enough to get singles and Dennis not having the fitness to travel more than one base at a time, this competition will go down to the wire. We predict Ryan B. will win it due to more AB near the top of the order.

Doubles and Triples: These two categories are tied between Kyle and Chris. Each player has 11 doubles and 3 triples. We predict that Kyle will win both categories, not because of pure ability but it will be difficult for Chris to bat with both arms wrapped around his own neck *Choke!*

Homeruns: Again, Kyle and Chris are tied for the lead with 3 homers each. We again predict Chris will choke and that Kyle should come out ahead. However, outsiders are wagering that Andy, only one homer back, may suprise the two and at least be able to tie them if he doesn't decide to sit out and make sand castles again.

RBIs: Kyle is once again the leader for this category. His 24 RBIs are three more than second placed Dennis. We predict Kyle will easily win this category because Dennis hits behind him in the order and anytime Kyle bats, he will try to score before Dennis comes up to the plate.

Batting Average: This category may be the one that costs Kyle his triple crown of batting (Avg, HR, RBI). With less than a 0.02 lead in average over Paul, any poor at bats will cost him the title.

Female Leaders

Batting Average: Mel looks set to hold off the challenge from Katie. We predict her .410 average should stay miles ahead of Katie's .325 since Katie is more concerned about taking balls and winning the overall base on balls category.

RBIs: Katie has a 2 RBI lead over Alison and Mel. We predict that Katie will hold onto to the lead unless Alison purposely sits her so that she has a chance to catch her.

AND FINALLY

Sacrifices: This category is potentially the most important stat as it shows who sacrified for the team instead of looking for individual glory.  Trish has triple the amount of sacrifies as her nearest teammate (6) and reminds all players to vote for her for MVP. We predict that Trish will win the category but not add to her totals. We also predict that several of Trish`s personalities will probably make an appearance this week at the games!!!

Another week of baseball and another two losses for TGTBTBC. It was an evening full of errors, laughter and a platter of wings!!!!. Although the team was able to generate more offence than usual, defensive problems again were too much to overcome. Another positive from the evening was the all-star like performance of Meaghan Danylyshen. Held in check for the majority of the season, Danylyshen contributed her first multi-hit game of her career and added a catch for an out. Danylyshen commented after the game, "It was important to start showing my teammates that I'm more than just a pretty face. Now the whole league will start to realize that there is more to this show than just some T&A!".

Games Notes: The team registered their second series of the year with double digit errors. Although not a record, the 12 errors committed added to an already frightening total of 96 errors.

Awful baseball was on the menu tonight and left a bitter taste in the mouths of TGTBTBC players. On an evening where not even viagra could bring some "pop" into the bats of the team, TGTBTBC went down without a struggle in both games. The only really solid hit came off of Alison Trethart's head on a foul tip that left Trethart bruised, battered and considering retirement. As if the night was bad enough, witnesses were stunned on the last play of the second game when outfielder Chris Pullen suffered a mental breakdown and chased the opponent's base-runner around the diamond trying to beat them to home plate. When asked to comment on Pullen's actions, third-baseman Mel Lagiewka said, "We all figured that this was going to happen sooner or later. Over the past month, the pressure Pullen has been under trying to keep up with Gertner has put the man on edge!". Reporters questioned GM Trethart about Pullen's condition after the game and were given the response, "We don't comment on the mental health of our players.".

BREAKING NEWS

Researchers Determine Bill Torrance's Approximate Real Age!!!!

Winnipeg, Manitoba

Researcher from the University of Manitoba announced that they have determined the approximate age of TGTBTBC player Bill Torrance using both DNA and carbon dating testing. Professor C.D. Books stated, " After nearly 3 years of intense labor, scientists at the university have been able to determine that Bill Torrance is at least 100 years old. However, we can only give an estimate because it appears that despite his advanced years, the subject does not age at the same rate as most humans on this planet.". These new findings plus the documented photos of people with an amazing similarity to Bill dating back throughout history, have lead researchers to believe that Torrance is indeed over a 100 years old. Books said, "If you examine a current picture of Bill and compare it to the 1908 Honus Wagner Baseball card and to a picture of Canadian soldiers from WWII, you will notice that there is a striking resemblance. When you look at the scientific data and combine it with the pictures, it must be concluded that all these men in these pictures are in fact the same person!". The university hopes to continue their research on the subject. Books concluded, "We don't know yet if Torrance is a unique specimen or if something or someone else out there ages in the same manner".

TGTBTBC took 4 of 5 games this weekend....granted 3 were forfeits but the team really needed the wins.  As the season reaches the midway point, TGTBTBC sit close to a .500 win record. Slugger Chris Pullen commented, "This is shapping up to be a great season for us. Never in our history have we been this close to .500 this last in the season.". When asked to respond to the positive atmosphere at the club, team GM Alison Trethart declared, "There are so many amazing stories this year. The team MVP race is heating up with superstar Trish Gertner making a mid-season run at both major contenders, Pullen and Lagiewka. If she continues her wonderful form, I don't think those guys will be able to match her numbers.". After a long break, the team hopes for sunny skies in order to take to the field tomorrow night.

Season Notes: Error stats and pitching stats have been updated to include those games played on May 31. All hitting statistics from that day will be added to final stats following the end of regular season game.

June 24, 2009

Tonight, TGTBTBG got a heavenly break when GOD brought a tornado to town at the start of the second game. After dropping the first game 14-6, Manager Alison Trethart made some personal changes to the outfield that can only be described as "THE WORSE COACHING DECISIONS EVER!!!!" When asked to comment about her decisions, Trethart stated, "I have a simple way of generating my line-ups. It has nothing to do with strategy or winning but rather I use the alphabet!!!". The wind that came halted all play. The team returns on Sunday for two big games where they hope to continue their three game win streak (all by default)!!!!!

Game Notes: Trish Gertner-Eloy continued her push for MVP votes by adding another sacrifice to her growing total. She now leads the team with 3. Ryan Shymko added 3 more errors at short stop to join Sheldon Dent near the top of that category. At this pace, Shymko and Dent may break the record for combined errors by a shortstop and 2B pair and become the worse middle infield in history.

The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher split another series tonight. As the team approaches the midway point of the season, some major improvements in game performances has been noticed by the media. ZNN reporter, Break D. News stated, "This team seems to be turning the corner. They're starting to get some hits from their female players and there has even been some defensive contributions by the ladies. Despite the continued poor fielding of the infielders, the team has managed to sneak out a few victories. Scorekeeper Tania Dent commented, "It has been a real change to actually have something positive to mark down on the scoresheet. I really thought we had a chance tonight to get both wins. It would have been the first four game winning streak in team history. Shymko was pitching a gem tonight till the team folded quicker than a poker player dealt a 2-7 offsuit." Depsite blowing a lead late in the game, the game still produced two amazing defensive plays by the TGTBTBC outfielders. Katie Kuchma broke the team's record for outfield catches in a season by a female player when she recorded her second outstanding catch this season. When asked to comment on her newly found confidence in the outfield, Kuchma responded, "I took time away from my career as an exotic dancer to commit to this project. Sure I've always been comfortable with balls coming at me but lately it feels so good out there that when I see them in front of me that I want to get my hands all over those balls and show the guys in the outfield just how good I really am.". The game also marked the catch of the season when right-fielder Dennis Petrelli made a diving catch that defied gravity. An unnamed opponent stated, "I don't think I will ever see such a catch made by someone that big again. The last time I saw something that large flying throught the air, it was the Airbus A380!!!". The team hopes to continue its progress on when they play their next two games on Wedenesday.

June 10, 2009

HELL HAS FROZEN OVER.....EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY......DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES???? These are only a few of the comments overheard following the career evening put in by Trish Gertner-Eloy tonight. Lead by the incredible performance by Gertner-Eloy, TGTBTBC won both games in a solid team effort. Team GM Alison Trethart commented, "What we witnessed tonight is truly a one in a million event. When we look back on the magic that was Trish tonight, I think we all will realize how lucky we were to have been part of this special evening.". Trish registered her first career RBI in addition to her first base hit of the season along with two sacrifices. Designated EATER, Dennis Petrelli declared, "The team played well but in reality, Tonight was all about Trish!!! She was so good that there were whisper of *KYLE WHO?* on the bench.".

TGTBTBC return this wednesday where all players hope that they can be this week's TRISH!!!!!!

June 7, 2009

The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher took to the field this Sunday and demonstrated that they were a team capable of playing four straight games, although not capable of winning even a single game. The Team was badly outmatched in the first series of the day losing both games by double digits. When asked to comment on the performance of the pitching staff, GM Trethart seriously stated, "I guess the pitchers never received the team memo at the start of the season that explained that the way this game works is to not allow the opposition to score more runs than you.".

The Team moved on to its second series of the afternoon and got the start they wanted when Power Eater, Dennis Petrelli crushed a massive 531 foot homerun to the upper deck off of Wasted Talent pitcher Barry Black. Following this record breaking blast, the game was brought to a sudden halt as pitcher Black required emergency medical treatment for the whip lash he received while trying to turn to watch the homerun enter into orbit. This delay cost TGTBTBC dearly as they lost the early momentum and failed to capitilize on the stunned pitcher's shaky start. Despite having many chances to score in both games, TGTBTBC dropped both games to their opponents.  Chris Pullen commented on the losses, "We didn't play poorly, we just didn't get the timely hits we needed. I can't remember the last time I struck out three times in a series. I wouldn't even be upset if my teammates started calling me Trish based on all the strikeouts I'm racking up.".

Game Notes: The outfielders of TGTBTBC were in excellent form during the afternoon. In particular, Chris Pullen made an excellent back-handed running catch, Katie Kuchma snagged her first career catch while Trish Gertner-Eloy was active in the outfield tracking down base hits and catching butterflies.

June 3, 2009

Tonight, TGTBTBC showed that they are a Jekyll and Hyde team capable of being both a wonderful and also a hideous slow-pitch team. Despite scoring 17 runs, the team was only able to gain a split of the series after a major collapse in the second game. Following the game, frustration was seen with numerous angry comments being made. An unidentified player commented, "There's no I in Team but there surely is a Chris in JESUS CHRIST WILL YOU GUYS PLAY YOUR NORMAL POSITIONS!!!!". GM Alison Trethart stated, 'Tonight's game is something we can learn from, It will make us a better team. We have already started the healing process by gathering together in the club house and singing a nice rendition of Kumbaya.". The team returns to play 4 games on Sunday including a highly publicized encounter with over-the-hill pitcher Barry Black and his team, Wasted Talent.

Game Notes: Meaghan Danylyshen registered her first career hit in the first game of the evening. This sport stat is also the first ever registered in any competition by the shy-yet available rookie. For information on dating Meaghan, please contact the Date-a-Danylyshen Foundation at 1-800-ComeCMe (266-3263) or drop by any The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher game.

TGTBTBC managed to make it to a final on Sunday and despite a heroic comeback after being down 6-0, dropped an intense classic to the John's and Hos, 10-8. The turning point of the game happenned in the top of the fourth. Down by two runs, with Alison Trethart on first, Kyle Lagiewka hit a rocket to the gap in the outfield and was rounding third to come home with the tying run only to be held up by the turtle-like running of Trethart who was thrown out at home, ending the rallying and causing TGTBTBC any chance of winning the final. When asked to comment on Trethart's break neck speed, Lagiewka commented, "What can be said....everyone saw it, She's as fast as human evolution was!!!!". Although the team dropped a few games during the weekend, ositives were seen during the numerous games including the batting of several of the team's female players which awoke for the first time this year, with several ladies registering multiple hits.  The team returns to league play on Wednesday when the hope to dipose of The BFI Trash Talkers.

Today, The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher conducted a Press Conference to announce that two of their players, Larry Eloy and Dennis Petrelli had been selected by "The Society For Weekend Warriors" to be their spokesmen for their new campaign, "Real Athletes Don't Wear Size Small". Society President Xavier Largepants, commented on the choice, "These two gentlemen are the perfect armchair quarterbacks to represent our society. They are the type of athletes that occasionally get out there and strut their stuff but still find the time to dedicate hours in front of the TV watching sports while eating chicken wings and drinking beer.". President XL stated that the society decided to pursue the new campaign after facing criticism concerning their original slogan, "I Beat Anorexia". When asked about his decision to accept the position, Eloy commented, "Accepting this role was a no brainer. In reality, we all know that athletes such as Dennis and myself are pound for pound the best ones to ever compete!". Petrelli also added his thoughts by declaring, "You can't have spell excellence without XL!!!!!" Eloy and Petrelli will be on hand to sign collector edition bibs at this year's Rib and Wing Eating Contest.

May 27, 2009

Tonight TGTBTBC showed that the poor fielding of last week was no fluke. The team put together an unimpressive 14 errors combined during the two games. Outfielder Kyle Lagiewka commented, "The Sh*t show was in full force tonight. Watching the infielders tonight was like watching a train wreck, you know you should look away but you just can't take your eyes off of it". Despite the heavy defeats, it wasn't all negatives this evening as two major team events occurred. First, the team announced the signing of Spongee Standout, Paul Bueti, who brings absolutely no slow-pitch experience or talent to the roster. When asked to comment on her lastest signing, GM Trethart stated, "We wanted to bring in a new player who considers himself to be an athlete and a superstar, unfortunately all we could find or afford was Paul. At least we know he will fit right in with the rest of the team as he has already contributed to the massive amount of errors we are committing.". Additionally, Hollywood Icon, Peter Griffin of Family Guy Fame, not only paid TGTBTBC a visit this evening but even decided to aid the team's effort by playing the second game of the evening in the outfield as rover. When asked why he didn't make the key catch on the fly-ball, Peter Griffin, commented, "I put my glove in the air.......but then I saw something in the sky.....ummmm what's the word to describe it......I think the word is BIRD". Please Click Below to hear how Peter Griffin described what he saw in the air,  the following morning while sitting at his kitchen table.

The Teem played veri bade tonite and lose the games bigg time. Now, if you think that last phrase had lots of errors, you should have witnessed the performance of The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher this evening. Led by the shockingly poor fielding of Sheldon Dent, who committed five errors in the two games, TGTBTBC, dropped both games to their opponents. When asked to comment on his performance, Dent stated, "Tonight was my first action of the year and I was more than just rusty. I've been nicknamed "Pele" for the lack of use of my glove during games so I really tried to focus on using it this year. Unfortunately, when I needed my glove most, it abandoned me. I just hope that the team doesn't change my nickname to "Error Prone"!" The only bright side on the evening was the continued excellent hitting of Chris Pullen who added two homeruns to his stats and now has 12 RBIs on the season. When asked about his current hot streak, Pullen responded, " You know what they say about guys with large bats!!!". This comment was quickly followed by a loud declaration from an unidentified teammate rumoured to be Bill Torrance, "It means they have small ****es!!!". TGTBTBC return to the field on Wednesday where they hope to return to the win column.

May 6, 2009

The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher returned to the diamond tonight following a long cold winter. The team was not too busy in the off-season, making only one new signing, Meaghan Danylyshen to replace the departed Leslee Dent. Perhaps even more important for the 2009 season was the release of power hitter, Peter Manastyrsky. Team GM, Alison Trethart commented on the roster moves, "We needed to sign another female to replace the departure of Dent but I think the decision to move forward without Manastrysky will be huge for our team this year. Peter tried his best but it seemed that whenever he was in the line-up, the rest of the team just couldn't perform.....maybe it was because they were in awe of his batting technique or maybe it was because they were laughing too much at him!" The Team managed to split the opening games of the season. Despite running out of gas in game two, The Good, The Bad and The Bat Catcher showed that their bats were working early this season. Self-proclaimed baseball God, Chris Pullen was in mid-season form, registering numerous hits and RBIs.....ALONG WITH A FEW ERRORS!!!! The Team returns next Wednesday when they take on perhaps the most hated pitcher in LMSASP history.....Barry Black!!! When asked to predict how their team would do against Black's pitching, team legend Dennis Petrelli stated, "If his pitching is anything like his spongee refereeing, we should be in good shape.....If he is as blind on a diamond as he is on the ice...I doubt he will be able to get the ball across the plate!!!!!".
