Posted Feb 17/11 - Class 5A Area Playoff Preview--Cinco Ranch (23-13) vs. Alief Elsik (26-6)

Cinco Ranch will take on Elsik on Friday night at Coleman Coliseum in an Area Round playoff matchup at 7:00pm.  The Rams were district champions out of 18-5A and are ranked 6th in the state in the latest TABC State Poll.  They defeated Cypress Creek on Tuesday night, 58-48 to advance to the Area Round for the 5th straight year.  Cinco Ranch has now made the Area Playoffs for 8 consecutive years after their 54-39 dismantling of Madison on Monday night.  The Cougars are 5-2 all-time in the Area Round, while the Rams are 12-3 dating back to 1989-90.

Houston, TX----Cinco Ranch advanced to the Area Round of the state playoffs with a 54-39 victory over Madison on Monday night at Coleman Coliseum.  The Cougars had a strong first half, shooting 10-23 from the field, including 4 three-pointers.  With the inside duo of Ashleigh Nwanguma and Megan Palmer being limited in the 1st half, the Cougars received big contributions from the guard play of Peyton Crump, Shayne Ortiz, Anne Marie Zuilhof, and Christy Williams to pull out to a 26-16 lead at the break.

Posted Feb 13/11 - Class 5A Bi-District Playoff Preview--Cinco Ranch (22-13) vs. Madison (19-11)

Cinco Ranch will take on Houston Madison on Monday night at 7:30 at Coleman Coliseum in a Class 5A Bi-District playoff game.  The Cougars defeated the Marlins 55-32 in December at the McDonald's Invitational in Bryan/College Station.  The two teams have met once before in the playoffs, during the 2003-2004 season in which Madison defeated Cinco Ranch 49-41 in the Area Round.  Click below to see each team's schedule and results, common opponents, and playoff histories..

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch outscored Katy 19-0 over the first 7:10 of the game to end any drama in their 19-5A finale on Tuesday night at CRHS.  Senior Anne Marie Zuilhof was on fire to start the game, hitting for 10 points in the first quarter to stake the Cougars to the big lead.  Cinco stretched their lead to 30-12 at the break.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch had 11 players enter the scoring fray on Saturday afternoon in a 41 point blowout victory over Morton Ranch.  The Cougars were in control from the opening tip and held the Lady Mavs to single digit point totals in all four quarters in the 66-25 victory.

Posted Feb 1/11 - Taylor takes out Cougars to claim 19-5A title

Katy, TX----Taylor defeated Cinco Ranch on Tuesday night 54-32 to claim the District 19-5A Championship.  Cinco was led by Megan Palmer with 11 points.  Ashleigh Nwanguma added 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who are now 7-3 in 19-5A play.  Cinco shot just 31% from the field and was forced into 30 turnovers by the Mustangs.

Katy, TX----The inside duo of Megan Palmer and Ashleigh Nwanguma combined for 26 points and 17 rebounds to power Cinco Ranch past Memorial on Tuesday night at CRHS.  The Lady Cougars improved to 20-12 with the win and took over sole possesion of 2nd place in District 19-5A with a 7-2 mark.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch held Seven Lakes scoreless for over seven minutes in the 4th period to pull out a 45-38 victory on Friday night at CRHS.  The Cougars trailed for most of the game until knotting the game at 36 to start the final quarter.  The only Spartan bucket came with just 30 seconds left in the game as Cinco improved to 6-2 in District 19-5A.  Mayde Creek defeated Memorial, which sets up a showdown on Tuesday between the Mustangs and Cougars.

Posted Jan 18/11 - Cougars fend off Rams to pull out important road victory

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch withstood a second half rally by Mayde Creek to pull out a 58-53 road victory on Tuesday night.  Cinco jumped out to a 25-12 lead after one period, as Megan Palmer and Ashleigh Nwanguma combined for 22 points in the opening frame.  Mayde Creek cut the lead to 35-24 at halftime, but Cinco pushed the lead back to 13 points, 52-39 heading into the final period.  The Rams sliced the Cougar lead to three points, 53-50, with 1:50 left in the game behind a three-pointer by TCU commit Jazzmin Parker, but Cinco sealed the deal with free throws by Emily Richard and a layup by Ashleigh Nwanguma.

Katy, TX----Megan Palmer scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds to lead Cinco Ranch past Katy, 36-32 on Friday night at Katy High School.  The Cougars led the entire first half, but had just a 17-13 lead at the break.  Katy came back and tied the game heading into the fourth quarter, and led by two points midway through the final stanza.  The Cougars hit some clutch free throws in the final minutes to post their fourth district win against two losses.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch opened the game on a 16-0 run to push aside visiting Morton Ranch, 59-22 on Tuesday night.  The Cougars raced to a 23-5 lead after one frame behind Christy Williams' 8 points, while Megan Palmer added seven tallies in the quarter.  Cinco took a 31-8 lead at intermission and coasted during the second half.

Katy, TX----Taylor used a 13-0 second quarter to turn the tide and beat Cinco Ranch, 47-32 on Friday night at Taylor High School.  The Cougars jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first quarter and led 16-8 before the Mustangs clamped down on defense and used the second quarter to take a 21-16 lead into halftime.  Taylor stretched their lead to twelve points, 38-26 heading into the fourth period.

Pasadena, TX----Cinco Ranch defeated Pasadena Memoria 59-29 on Monday night as all nine Cougars cracked the scoring column.  Cinco improved to 15-11 on the season with their season high sixth straight win.  Megan Palmer scored 20 points, Ashleigh Nwanguma 11, and Peyton Crump 10 to lead the Cougars.

Bryan, TX----Cinco Ranch defeated A&M Consolidated 42-40 on Thursday afternoon to win the McDonald's All-Star Invitational for the first time in school history.  Megan Palmer scored 15 points and hauled in 14 rebounds, while Ashleigh Nwanguma added 13 points and 13 rebounds, as the Cougars pounded the inside to defeat the Lady Tigers.

Bryan, TX----Megan Palmer had 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Cinco Ranch past host Bryan 44-33 on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the championship game of the McDonald's All-Star Invitational.  The Lady Cougars started out hot, jumping on the Lady Vikings 15-5 after one quarter.  Bryan cut into the Cinco lead to trail by just four points, 24-20 at the half.

Bryan, TX----Cinco Ranch advanced to the semifinals of the McDonald's All-Star Invitational in Bryan/College Station with a hard fought 47-42 win over Beaumont Central on Wednesday morning.  Central came into the contest ranked #7 in the state in the latest TABC Class 4A State Rankings, sporting a 16-1 record.   The Cougars were led by Christy Williams, who scored 12 points to go along with 4 assists, and Peyton Crump, who added 10 points and 4 steals.  Megan Palmer hauled in 12 rebounds for Cinco, who advances to play Bryan at 4:30pm today in the semifinals at Bryan High School.

Posted Dec 28/10 - Cougars take two on opening day of McDonald's Tourney

Bryan, TX----Cinco Ranch won its first two games of the McDonald's All-Star Invitational in Bryan/College Station on Tuesday, beating Killeen Shoemaker and Houston Madison in impressive fashion.  The Cougars advance to the 3rd round, where they will play Beaumont Central on Wednesday morning at 10:30.  If Cinco prevails, they will play host Bryan at 4:30pm on Wednesday in the semifinals.  A loss would drop the Cougars to a consolation game at 3:00pm against a team to be determined.  Below is a recap of Tuesday's action:

Houston, TX----Memorial held off Cinco Ranch, 57-48 on Friday night, to improve to 3-0 in district play.  The Lady Cougars had three players reach double figures in scoring.  Megan Palmer and Peyton Crump each had 12 points, while Ashleigh Nwanguma had 11 points and a whopping 20 rebounds on the evening.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch came up with the clutch plays in overtime to pull out a 49-46 road win at Seven Lakes on Monday night.  Shayne Ortiz hit a three-pointer, Ashleigh Nwanguma had four points in the extra session, and Megan Palmer hit a free throw.  Palmer finished the night with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  Nwanguma also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

Bellaire, TX----Raven Burns scored 20 points, and A.J. Alix added 15 to lead Bellaire to a 55-41 victory over Cinco Ranch on Friday night at Bellaire HS.  The Cougars hung tough for three quarters and trailed 45-38 heading into the fourth period.  The Cardinals outscored the visitors 10-3 in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Katy, TX----Megan Palmer drove in for a game winning layup with five seconds remaining to erase a furious Mayde Creek rally and lift Cinco Ranch to a thrilling 60-59 win over the Rams on Tuesday night at CRHS.  Mayde Creek's Maya Adighibe hit a half court shot just after the buzzer that would have given the Rams the win in each team's district opener.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch dropped a 48-30 decision to Taylor on Saturday morning at Mayde Creek HS.  The Lady Cougars finished 2-2 in the KISD Classic and now have a 7-8 record on the season.  Anne Marie Zuilhof scored 9 points to pace Cinco, while Ashleigh Nwanguma grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.

Posted Dec 3/10 - Atascocita's big guns slip by Cinco in OT, 53-48

Katy, TX---Curtyce Knox scored 19 points and Chrishauna Parker had 14 to lead #2 Atascocita to a 53-48 victory in overtime over Cinco Ranch on Friday afternoon.  The Lady Cougars looked sharp in the early going, taking a 12-8 lead after one quarter behind Peyton Crump's six points.  In the second quarter, Emily Richard (pictured) provided a spark with six of her ten points coming in the quarter.  Atascocita led 24-22 at the break, but Cinco regained the lead after three quarters, 36-33 behind two three-pointers from Shayne Ortiz and five points from Anne Marie Zuilhof.  The final quarter was back and forth until Ortiz hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to give Cinco a 47-45 lead.  Atascocita answered with A&M commit Rachel Mitchell's short turnaround jumper with two seconds left.

Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch held Channelview to just ten points in the second half to pull out a 42-30 victory in the 2nd round of the KISD Classic on Friday afternoon.  Cinco trailed 12-10 after one period and led by two, 22-20 at intermission.  Channelview scored a bucket to tie things early in the third, but then went scoreless until the 5:00 minute mark of the 4th quarter.  The 17-0 run by Cinco pushed the lead to 39-22 and the Cougars coasted the rest of the way.

Katy, TX----Megan Palmer scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to help lead Cinco Ranch to a 40-33 win over Cy-Ranch on Thursday afternoon at CRHS.  Cinco started off slowly, as Cy-Ranch jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the early going.  But the Lady Cougars clawed back to trail by just two points after the first stanza and went into intermission winning 24-20.  Cinco extended their lead to 9 points after three quarters and held off the Mustangs to advance to the 2nd round, where they will face Channelview, a 34-28 winner over Angleton.

Katy, TX----Eight state ranked Class 5A outfits will invade the Katy area this weekend for the annual Katy ISD Classic.  The tournament's field boasts state ranked outfits from all over the state of Texas and is quickly becoming one of the best yearly tournaments of the non-district season.  A glance at the top teams participating with their ranking and record so far this season.  Records are as of Monday night:

Posted Dec 1/10 - Cougars rally falls short

College Station, TX----Cinco Ranch fell 58-53 in overtime on Tuesday night to A&M Consolidated in a non-district matchup.  The Lady Cougars had a sluggish first half, falling behind 30-17.  The second half was a different story, as Cinco outscored the hosts 34-21 to force the extra session.  Cinco grabbed the lead late in regulation but could not hold on for the victory.  Megan Palmer had 23 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Lady Cougars, while also blocking three shots.  Ashleigh Nwanguma had 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.  Taylor Williams had a solid defensive showing with three blocked shots, as Cinco had a season high with 9 shots turned away.

Pasadena, TX----Anne Marie Zuilhof scored a career high 21 points, all coming in the 2nd half, to lead Cinco Ranch to a 57-47 victory over Dobie on Tuesday night at Dobie HS.  The senior guard was 8-12 from the field and also had a strong defensive showing with five steals.  Megan Palmer added 13 points and Ashleigh Nwanguma had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the victors.

Houston, TX----Erin Luton scored 10 of her 12 points in the 3rd quarter and Tiffany Davis added 10 points in the 2nd half to send Westside past Cinco Ranch, 56-50 on Monday night at Westside HS.  The Lady Wolves used a 37-20 surge in the final two quarters to erase an eleven point Cinco lead at the half, 30-19.  Peyton Crump led the Lady Cougars with 17 points while Ashleigh Nwanguma pulled down 12 rebounds.

Katy, TX----Cassie Peoples scored 30 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, to lead #8 Cy-Fair to a 62-53 victory over Cinco Ranch on Tuesday night at CRHS.  Cinco jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind the strong play of Megan Palmer, who scored 10 of her 20 points in the first frame.  The Lady Cougars would take a 31-30 lead into intermission and extended their lead to 46-43 heading into the fourth quarter behind Ashleigh Nwanguma's eight points.  The Lady Bobcats had a decisive 17-7 edge in the final stanza to pull out the win.

Posted Nov 13/10 - Palmer erupts for 30 as Cinco thrashes Dulles
Sugar Land, TX----Megan Palmer had 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead Cinco Ranch to an easy 68-34 road victory over Dulles on Friday night.  Palmer was 13-19 from the field and had 16 points in the 1st half to pace the Cougars.   Cinco had  a 17-12 edge after one quarter, and that lead grew to 33-20 at halftime.  Cinco allowed only 14 second half points to the Vikings to improve to 2-0 on the year.  Angie Moore had 11 points for the victors while Ashleigh Nwanguma had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double.  Anne Marie Zuilhof and Shayne Ortiz combined for 9 steals in a strong defensive effort.  Zuilhof also had 5 assists.  Cinco will take on #8 Cy-Fair on Tuesday night in their home opener.  Game time is 7:00 pm.

Richmond, TX----Ashleigh Nwanguma had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lift Cinco Ranch to a 50-41 win over Fort Bend Bush in the season opener for both teams last night at Bush HS.  The Lady Cougars had a 25-14 lead at halftime and held on in the 2nd half for the win.  Peyton Crump chipped in with 10 points and Megan Palmer grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.
