History of the Atlanta Rangers

The Atlanta Rangers joined the Saturday League, of the MABL of Atlanta in 2006. In there first year in the league they were known as the Atlanta Reds. The Atlanta Reds played there home games at Osborne High School, in Marietta, Ga. Under manager: Mike Guidry, the Atlanta Reds finished the 2006 season with a 11-2, best record capturing the Division title. The Reds had a potent offense in 2006 and pounded there opponents, averaging over 13 runs a game and scoring 180 runs on the regular season. In just the first two games of the season the Reds out scored there opponents 42-5. Atlanta Reds pitcher Bryan Myers went 8-0 as a pitcher (10-1 including the play-off's). The Atlanta Reds went on to lose the Championship to the Atlanta Spikes, being swept in a best of three series.

Going into the 2007 season, Mike Guidry retired as manager of the Atlanta Reds. Grant Crowe stepped in to fill his shoes, getting rid of many players and bringing back important players Bryan Myers and Ray Vato. Grant Crowe also added key players such as Jesse Mulkey, Jarret Mulkey, Tom Rosemond, Roy Irsle, Kenny Haygood, Blake Cecil and many others. One of the more notible changes to the Atlanta Reds was the change of their team name. Grant Crowe changed the team name just before the start of the 2007 season to the Atlanta Indians. The Atlanta Indians finished the year in second place with a 7-5 record. The Atlanta Indians were knocked out of the playoffs in the semi-finals round by the Atlanta Giants.

In 2008, The Atlanta Indians added several players from the dismantled Atlanta Tigers team such as: Kirk Blackwood, AJ Armbruster, Johny Jones, and Michael Lee. The Atlanta Indians also added former MABL champion Lorenzo Maldenado from the 2007 Braves Championship team, and free agents Travis Bragg, Brian Dickhaus, Matt Methvin, and more. The Atlanta Indians battled through injuries and disparity in 2008 and managed to finish the year in second place behind the Giants with a 7-5 record. After knocking out the Bulldogs in the first round, and the defending champion Braves in the second round. The Indians again squared up against the Atlanta Spikes for the Championship in a best of three series. The Atlanta Spikes swept the Indians again winning the 2008 Championship. Grant Crowe was named the 2008 National League "Manager of the Year".

The 2009 Indians team featured many returning players such as: Matt Methvin, Travis Bragg, Bryan Myers, Grant Crowe, Blake Cecil, Brian Dickhaus and Tom Rosemond. The Tribe added free agents Isaac Robles, John Dunlap, Sam Cunningham, Matt Senna, Greg Keick, Woody Bass, Elliot Stewart, Drew Tedder and Jared Williams. The Indians catcher Isiac Robles replaced Jarett Mulkey behind the plate. Sam Cunningham filled the absence of ex-thirdbasemen Lorenzo Maldonado, by batting .333 and hitting 5 home runs in 33 at-bats. John Dunlap led the Tribe in batting, by hitting .436 on the year. Matt Senna batted .420 in 50 at-bats out of the lead off spot. Bryan Myers struck out 65 batters and went 6-1 on the year with a 2.31 ERA. Greg Keick provided power at the plate for the Tribe, hitting 2 home runs and 3 doubles on the year. Tom Rosemond hit his second career home run in game 2 of the Semi-Finals against the Atlanta Spikes. Blake Cecil led the Indians with 11 stolen bases. Grant Crowe batted .391 with 9 RBI's and managed the Indians to the Semi-Finals. The Indians tied their franchise best record of 11-2. The 2006 team formally known as the Atlanta Reds went 11-2.

The 2010 tribe team released players, Woody Bass, Matt Methvin and John Dunlap. However they have increased there power at the plate and on the mound, adding Catcher Vince Palmer, third basemen/Pitcher Travis McGee. The Indians blasted a team record 20 home runs in 2010 and finished the season tied for a franchise best record of 11-2, matching last seasons record and the 2006 season.   _______________________________________________________________________________________

The Atlanta Indians changed their name to the Atlanta Rangers and restructured their offense in 2011 adding sluggers: Derek Sanchez, Michael Kellar, Justin McDonald, Clay Remole, DeAnthony Moses, Austin Harris and former Atlanta Spikes All-Star James Martinez. The Rangers also added depth to their pitching picking up ex Kennesaw State pitcher Jeremy Bryan. The Rangers set their all-time franchise season record finishing the year at 12-1. The Rangers went on to lose in the Semi-Finals to the Atlanta Jaxx after winning game one the Rangers lost Game two & three and were eliminated.
