2007-08 Arkansas Baptist Eagles
8th Grade Boys Basketball Team

2007-08 Record 11-5!

The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play "Drop the Handkerchief". ++ James Naismith

Baptist-34 Episcopal-28
This was the opening game for the Eagles. Questions need to be answered! How would they respond to a new coach? A new season? Twenty-four minutes later they gave us their answer. Another win! Record 1-0 and looking for more!!

Fans never fall asleep at our games, because they're afraid they might get hit by a pass. ++ George Raveling

Baptist-34 Episcopal-12
Playing in a tournament you would expect new competition. The Eagles drew the wildcats, again, in the first round. Playing great defense, Baptist took the lead and never looked back. Continuing their quest for a second undefeated season in a row! Bravo Eagles!!

We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunatley, all our games are played indoors. ++ Weldon Drew

Baptist-24 Anthony-17
Baptist faced Anthony in the second round of the Anthony Tournament. From the opening tip, the Eagles had a tough time getting the ball in the basket. It wasn't that the Panthers were playing that well, the Eagles just couldn't get on track. They did, however, manage to pull out a victory in the end. Next up, the talented Pulaski Robinson Senators in round three.

When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia,we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who had turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team. ++ George Raveling

Pulaski Robinson-29 Baptist-25
What a game! What a game! What a game! The gym was packed with fans from both sides. They were there to watch a championship game, and that's what they saw. The play was back and forth in the first half with Baptist leading at the half 15-8. The score differential stayed the same until Robinson started chipping away at the lead in the 4th quarter. With less that a minute left in the game, the score stood at 25-25. Robinson made a clutch basket with seconds left, sealing their victory. Truly the way a "Championship" game should be played.

We didn't lose the game; We just ran out of time. ++Vince Lombardi

Abundant Life-38 Baptist-26
The Eagles traveled to the cave that the Owls call a gym. The Owls playing great defense while the Eagles couldn't make a basket equals a loss. The Eagles did not show up and the Owls did. Owls win!

Most games are lost, not won. ++Casey Stengel

Baptist-37 Episcopal-14
Coming off a disapointing loss to the Owls, the Eagles were ready to play. In the way of another win were the Wildcats. The Eagles started slow, but, led 12-8 at the half. Coach Hudson must have said the right thing during half time, because, a different Eagle team came out for the 2nd half. They put on a full court press that Nolan Richardson would be proud of. When the smoke cleared, the Eagles flew off in victory out scoring the Wildcats 25-6 in the 2nd half.

We're shooting 100 percent - 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from the free throw-line. ++ Norm Stewart

CAC-30 Baptist-21

Sometimes basketball can be a frustrating game, like tonight. Foul trouble, poor exicution and shots not dropping. A game you knew you could win. Didn't happen. Eagles fall to CAC.

You can run alot of plays when your X is twice as big as the other guy's O. It makes your X's and O's pretty good. ++ Paul Westphal

Baptist-33 Anthony-24
Playing a game after a tough loss in less than 24 hours is hard. How would the Eagles react? They came out on fire, dominating an Anthony team that plays well. Using a smothering full court press, stingy defense and well exicuted offense, the Eagles dominated. Coach Hudson was able to play everyone so they could participate in the victory.

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures. ++ Earl Warren

Baptist-26 Anthony-15
On a warm rainy night, the Eagles met the Panthers. This is the 3rd time this season these teams have met to do battle. The Eagles started slowly leading at the half by only 6 pts. Even with Coach Hudson substituting freely off the bench, the Eagles increased that margin to 11 pts. by the end of the game. Another great 2nd half effort by all players!

The more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle. ++Author Unknown

LRCA-34 Baptist-24
The Eagles did not show up for this game, the Warriors did. Out played in every area, the Eagles take their 4th loss. Nothing else needs to be said.

If you make every game a life-and-death thing, you're going to have problems. You'll be dead a lot. ++ Dean Smith

Baptist-28 Anthony-24
Anthony is a much better team than they were last year, but, not enough to beat Baptist. For the fourth time this year the Eagles fly away with the win!

Officials are the only guys who can rob you and then get a police escort out of the Stadium. ++Ron Bolton,

Harding Academy-43 Baptist-42
The Harding Academy Wildcats came to the Eagles Nest looking to revenge their two losses to the Eagles last year. The score was back and forth the whole game. With the game tied at 42, the Wildcats made a foul shot with only two-tenths of a second left for the game winner..

We can't win at home and we can't win on the road. My problem as general manager is I can't think of another place to play. ++Pat Williams

Baptist-43 Episcopal-18
It was a cold winter day outside, but inside, the Eagles burned up the hardwood. Playing their best basketball this season, the Eagles smoked the Wildcats. Baptist played hard on both ends of the court from the opening tip off to the final buzzer. Coach Hudson's team record goes to 8 wins and 5 losses. Well Done Coach!

My only feeling about superstition is that it's unlucky to be behind at the end of the game. ++Duffy Daughterty

Baptist-35 Anthony-19
The Eagles flew to Anthony School hoping to get their talons into the Panthers one more time. With only 7 of 10 players making the trip, due to illness, Eagle fans were on edge! .... Not really! Just as before, the Eagles took the lead and never looked back. Can you say "Deep Bench"? When the game was over, the Panthers mascot was on his back with all four paws in the air. Next up, the season ending tournament, "Highway 10 Classic", at Arkansas Baptist. Good Luck Eagles!

You don't play against opponents. You play against the game of basketball. ++Bobby Knight

Baptist-31 LRCA-21
It's 9 a.m. on the last day of basketball for the year. Arkansas Baptist playing the LRCA Warriors, their friends, rivals and next door neighbor. In a well played game, the Eagles took the lead early and 24 minutes later walked off the court with the win. The Warriors put up a good fight, but, losing in the end.

Teamwork is the ability to work as a group toward a common vision, even if that vision becomes extremely blurry. ++Author Unknown

Baptist-37 CAC-35
Let me set the stage! Arkansas Baptist Eagles against the CAC Mustangs, last game of the year, players set for the tip off. The whistle blows and the offical throws the ball in the air. What followed was one heck of a game. The score was back and forth for four quarters of play with the Mustangs scoring in the last seconds to tie the game at the buzzer. After two more minutes of overtime, the scoreboard read Baptist-37 CAC-35. What a way to end a season!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness,
because of Your truth. Psalm 115: 1

Thanks to the parents, fans, coaches and the players for a great season of basketball. A special thanks to Coach Joe Hudson for his dedication and leadership.

Follow us on next years journey!
