Championship Game 1
Details: GHS win 2-1 The Tigers
faced the Auburn Tigers at Paterson field in Montgomery. Grissom was
the visiting team. It took the Tigers until the 4th inning to get on the
board. With two outs, Duncan Harrity singled, followed by a walk to
Dillon Ortman. Ben Hill then delivered an oppo field single, scoring
both runners. Auburn scored one in the 7th and left two runners on when
the third out was made. Offensively, Dillon was 2/2 with a double,
Brandon Lawing was 2/4 with a double, and singles by Patrick Dodson,
Blake Crank, Josh Macurdy, Duncan Harrity, and Ben Hall. Dillon started
on the mound and pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, having a perfect
game through four innings before a walk was issued. Grant Bush pitched 1
1/3 in relief, getting a save.
Championship Game 2 Details: GHS
loses 9-7 The
Tigers moved to Riverwalk stadium looking to win one more and the
title. In this game, Grissom was the home team. The Tigers threatened
in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs but unable to get a
run across. Auburn scored first, in the 3rd inning. Grissom answered in
their half by scoring 4. Patrick Dodson started off the inning with a
single and later scored on a balk. Blake Crank walked and Taylor Jones
singled. Josh Macurdy then hit a 2 run triple off the right center field
fence. Duncan Harrity added an RBI double. This made the score 4-2.
In the 4th, Grissom scored three. Patrick lead off with a inside the
park home run, hitting the top railing of the fence in left center.
Brandon Lawing followed with a homerun to nearly the same spot. Blake
then doubled and Taylor walked. Josh hit an RBI single to make the score
7-2. Auburn added three in the 5th to close the score to 7-5. Auburn
scored 4 in the top of the 7th to take the lead and win at 9-7. Josh
started on the mound and went into the 5th inning. He was relieved by
Stephen Hill and Grant Bush. This loss meant a third game would have to be played to decide the
champion.
Championship
Game 3 Details: GHS loses 4-3
Grissom was the visiting team for this game. The Tigers
hit the ball hard all game, the problem was it was at the defenders.
Numerous deep balls were hit to the outfield that would have been gone
in any other park but become long outs. Auburn lead the entire game,
scoring one in the first, one in the third, and two in the fifth.
Grissom added one in the 6th. Brandon Lawing singled, followed by a
Blake Crank single. Brandon scored on a sac fly by Taylor Jones. On to
the seven and three outs from the game being over. With one out,
Dillon Ortman hit a double down the left field line. Blake Massey added
a single. Patrick Dodson hit an RBI single. With two outs, Blake Crank
added an RBI single to make it 4-3 with runners on second and third.
The Tigers didn't get the run and Auburn wins a close one. Jonathan
Black started the game, going into the 5th inning. Stephen Hill came in
relief.

Game 2 Scoreboard
5/7/10 - Tigers Sweep Hueytown
Game 1: The Tigers hosted Hueytown in the state
semi-finals and won 4-0. The Tigers scored in the bottom on the first
after Blake Massey singled and later scored on a passed ball. The
Tigers added insurance runs in the 6th. Taylor Jones singled and
scored, Alex Luna walked and scored, and Blake singled and scored.
Dillon Ortman started the game on the mound, working 5 2/3 innings for
the win. Grant Bush closed the last 1 1/3, facing 5 batters with 4 K's
and gets the save.
Game
2: The Tigers were one game
away from getting to the finals. It took all 7 innings, but the Tigers
prevailed and won 8-5. The Tigers got a run in the 1st inning when
Patrick Dodson walked and scored on a single by Brandon Lawing. The
Gophers answered back, scoring two in the 1st and 2 in the second, to
lead 4-1. The Tigers got a run back in the 4th on a solo HR by Josh
Macurdy. The teams traded runs in the 5th to make the score 5-3 Gophers.
On to the 7th and the Tigers last chance to tie it or go ahead. They
decided to go ahead. Blake Crank lead off with a single. Duncan Harrity
tied the game at 5-5 with a monster shot over the left field fence.
Taylor Jones followed with a double and Josh was hit by pitch. Ben Hall
delivered an RBI single and Patrick Dodson added a 2 RBI single to make
it 8-5. Josh started the game on the mound, going 5 innings with 9
K's. Stephen Hill pitched the 6th inning and records the win. Grant
Bush came in to close in the 7th, striking out the side for a save.
4/30/10 - Tigers advance
to semi-finals with WIN over Pelham
Game 1: The Tigers traveled to Pelham to take on the
#1 ranked team in the state. Blake Massey opened the game with an oppo
field HR. The Panthers answered back in the bottom of the inning with a
HR as well. The Panthers scored two in the 2nd and one in the 3rd to
lead 4-1. Taylor Jones hit a solo HR in the 4th. The Panthers answered
that with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Lawing added a
solo HR in the 6th. Duncan Harrity was 2/2 in the game. Dillon Ortman
pitched 4 innings with relief from Jonathon Black and Trey Thornton.
Game 2: The Tigers knew they had
to win game two to keep the dream alive. The Tigers scored first in
the bottom of the 1st inning. Blake Massey walked, Patrick Dodson,
Brandon Lawing, and Blake Crank singled, creating 2 runs. The Panthers
added 3 run in the 3rd inning. The Tigers tied the game in the 4th.
Duncan Harrity singled and scored on a Josh Macurdy single. With the
game tied 3-3, the Panthers hit a double in the 5th inning with two
hits. The next two batters were intentionally walked to setup a leftie
batter on leftie pitcher duel. The batter walked giving the Panthers a
4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Blake lead off with an on by error.
Patrick Dodson walked. Brandon Lawing sac bunt moved the runners over.
With two outs and the best scoring opportunity present, Duncan hit a 2
RBi single to give the Tigers the lead 5-4. Josh went 4 2/3 innings on
the mound, striking out 4 with 3 hits. Grant Bush gets the win, going 2
1/3 innings with 6 K's in 8 batters faced.
Game 3: In the game to determine
who moves into the semi-finals, this game did not disappoint. This may
have been the best high school baseball game played in the state this
year. This game went 13 innings and the Tigers prevailed 9-7. Pelham
struck first with two runs in the 1st inning. They added another run in
the 2nd. The Tigers got on the board in the 3rd. Blake Massey hit a 2
run HR. The Panthers added a run in the 3rd and two more in the 4th.
The Tigers answered in the bottom of the 4th. Blake Crank lead off with a
single. Taylor Jones added an RBI double. Josh Macurdy followed with an
RBI double. At this point, the score was 6-4 in favor of the Panthers.
The Tigers tied the game in the 5th. Massey lead off with a solo HR, his
second in the game. Crank walked and Duncan Harrity singled. Taylor
added an RBI single to tie it at 6-6. In the top of the 7th, the
Panthers got a hit and walk. A passed ball let the lead runner score,
giving the Panthers the go ahead run. To the bottom of the 7th and the
season on the line. The Panthers brought in their ace to try and close
out the win. With one out, Brandon Lawing was hit by pitch. With two
outs now, Duncan singled. Taylor added a single, scoring Brandon and
tying the game at 7-7. Josh then hit a ball down the first base line.
Duncan scored, giving us the win. BUT, the team started celebrating on
the field and Taylor never went to 2nd base. The right fielder threw the
ball to second and in tagging second made the third out with a force,
negating the winning run. What followed was 6 innings of two teams who
wouldn't quit. Each team had numerous chances to score but pitching and
defense wouldn't allow it. In one of the biggest plays of the extra
innings, the Panthers got the bases loaded in the top of the 13th with
their lead-off batter at the plate with 2 outs. A line drive out to Josh
at third gave the Tigers another at bat. Ben Hall lead off the inning
with a single. With one out, Patrick Dodson stepped in. He sent the
first pitch over the the left field fence for a two run walk-off HR. The
pitching was handled by 5 different pitchers. Jonathan Black started
the game and went 2 1/3 innings with 3 K's. Next was Stephen Hill, who
went 2 innings with 3 K's. Grant Bush went 3 1/3 innings with 2 K's.
Josh went 2 innings with 3 K's. Grant and Josh were limited in innings
due to pitching rules from game 2. AJ Braun was called on to take
charge starting in the 11th. He pitched 3 strong innings, allowing only 2
hits, to record the win.
4/26/10 - Tigers advance by beating Huntsville 8-0 Game
2: The Tigers beat Huntsville 8-0 to advance
to the 3rd round of the state playoffs. This game was continued from
Friday night when the weather canceled it after half an inning. From
Friday, Blake Crank hit a 2 run HR in the first inning. The Tigers came
back ready to finish the series and started the scoring right away.
Taylor Jones started the second inning with a single. A passed ball, a
sac bunt, and a sac fly let the run score. In the 3rd, Blake Massey lead
off with a single and later scored. in the 4th, Taylor and Dillon
Ortman both walked. Ben Hall then delivered a 3 run HR. The Tigers added
their final run in the 5th when Blake Crank walked and later scored.
Josh Macurdy pitched 5 innings, striking out 6 and allowing 3 hits (one
on Friday night). Grant Bush pitched the last two innings in relief,
recording 4 K's with one hit.
4/23/10 - Tigers win first game versus
Huntsville
Game
1: The Tigers beat Huntsville 10-2 in the
first game of the 2nd round playoffs.The Tigers starting the scoring in
the first inning. Patrick Dodson doubled followed by a single by Brandon
Lawing. Josh Macurdy then hit a 2 RBI double. Huntsville added two in
the third but the Tigers answered in their half inning. Brandon
singled, Blake Crank and Josh walked. Duncan Harrity walked in a run
and Dillon Ortman added a 2 RBI single. In the 4th, Patrick walked and
Brandon doubled, scoring Patrick. Blake walked and Josh laid down a sac
bunt, scoring Brandon. In the 5th, Duncan walked, Taylor Jones singled,
and Blake Massey added an RBI single. Dillon Ortman pitched a complete
game for the win, recording 8 K's with 3 hits.
4/16/10 - Tigers win 1st round playoff DH over
Sparkman Game 1: The Tigers faced Sparkman in the the
first round of the state playoffs and won game 1 by a score of 2-1. The
Senators struck first, scoring 1 in the top of the first inning. The
Tigers were able to answer back in the 5th inning. Alex Luna walked. He
scored on a sac fly to right field by Josh Macurdy. The game remained
tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the 8th inning. Dillon Ortman walked and
was moved over by a sac bunt by Ben Hall. Blake Massey delivered a game
winning RBI single to right field . Dillon pitched 8 innings,
recording 8 K's for the win.
Game 2:With game 1 under their belts, the Tigers
looked to advance by winning game 2. They did that by a score of 6-1.
The Tigers scored in the 2nd inning with Taylor Jones getting on with a
single and Duncan Harrity with a walk. Ben Hall hit a double, scoring
both runners. In the 6th inning, Blake Crank lead off with a double.
Alex Luna added a single. Taylor Jones was intentionally walked and with
bases loaded, Duncan walked. Ben added an RBI single and Patrick
Dodson added a 2 run double. Josh Macurdy (3 K's) pitched 4 2/3 innings
for the win with Grant Bush (5 K's) in relief.
4/10/10 - Tigers win DH in Cullman Game 1:
The Tigers faced Collierville Dragons from TN in the first game of a DH
and won 7-4. The Tigers scored four in the 1st inning. Blake Massey
lead off with a walk, followed by walks to Brandon Lawing and Alex Luna.
Josh Macurdy hit a 2 run single and Taylor Jones hit a 2 run single.
The Tigers scored again in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. Jonathon Black
pitched 6 innings for the win, with relief from Stephen Hill and Will
Bishop.
Game 2:The Tigers faced Ridgecrest out of
Murfreesboro, TN and won 8-4. In the first innings, Blake Massey walked
and scored on a single by Duncan Harrity. in the third inning, Ben
Hall singled and scored on a Duncan Harrity HR. Taylor Jones then
singled and scored on a Josh Macurdy HR. The Tigers added one more in
the 6th. Stephen Hill started the game but left after one inning with a
tight bicep. Trey Thornton pitched the reminder of the game.
Tigers win Area 16 Championship !!! Game 2:
In the game to decide the Area 16 Champs, the Tigers beat Huntsville
8-2 to claim the title. The Tigers scored first in the 2nd inning and
never trailed. In the 2nd, Blake Crank walked and Alex Luna singled.
Josh Macurdy moved both over with a sac bunt. Taylor Jones delivered a 2
run single. In the 4th, Alex added a HR to move the score to 3-1. In
the 5th, Dillon Ortman and Patrick Dodson walked and both scored on a
single by Brandon Lawing. Final scoring was in the 6th, with Taylor and
Ben Hall walking and scoring on a Duncan Harrity 3 run HR. Josh pitched
4 2/3 innings, recording 7 K's for the win. Grant Bush struck out 6 in 2
1/3 innings relief. Game 3: The
Tigers lost a close game 6-5 in the third game of the series.
4/8/10 - Tigers drop
game with Huntsville 6-5
Game 1: The
Tigers scored three in
the 1st inning. Blake Massey lead off with a walk, followed by a Patrick
Dodson single. Brandon Lawing walked to load the bases. Blake Crank hit
a 2 run double. Josh Macurdy added an RBI single. In the 5th inning,
Brandon singled and scored on a 2 run HR by Blake Crank. After 5
complete innings, the score was tied at 5-5. The Panthers were able to
plate a run in the 6th inning to take the lead and eventually win.
Dillon Ortman pitched 6 innings with Grant Bush pitching one in relief.
4/5/10 - Tigers win DH over Austin Game 1:The
Tigers won the first game of the DH by a score of 14-4. Blake Massey
lead off the first inning with a solo HR. In the second inning, Patrick
Dodson walked and scored on a triple by Brandon Lawing. Blake Crank
walked and Brandon scored on a ground out by Alex Luna. Blake scored on
a double by Josh Macurdy. In the fourth, hits by Massey, Dodson
(triple), Crank (HR), Luna, Macurdy, and Ben Hall added 6 runs.
Offensively, Dodson was 3/3, Massey and Macurdy were 2/3. Jonathon
Black pitched a complete game, recording 6 K's over 5 innings. Game 2:
The Tigers won this one 9-6. Blake Massey started things with a double
followed by a walk to Patrick Dodson. Both scored on a single by Taylor
Jones. In the second inning, Blake Stephenson singled and scored on
Massey's double. In the third inning, Massey added a 3 run HR.
Offensively, Massey was 4/4 with a HR and 2 doubles and Stephenson was
2/2 with a sac fly. Stephen Hill pitched 5 innings for the win, with
relief from AJ Braun and Grant Bush.
4/3/10 - Tigers sweep Buckhorn in Area Series Game
2:The Tigers traveled to Buckhorn and won the
second game of the series 16-5. In the 1st inning, Blake Massey walked
and scored on a double by Brandon Lawing. Brandon scored on a 2 run HR
by Blake Crank. Alex Luna walked, Josh Macurdy singled, and Alex scored
on a Taylor Jones single. In the 2nd, Ben Hall lead off with a single
followed by a Massey single. Patrick Dodson got on by error. Ben scored
on a sac fly by Brandon. Massey scored on a Crank single. Patrick scored
on Alex's sac fly. Crank and Josh scored on Taylor Jones 3 run HR. In
the 3rd, the Tigers added 5 more runs with hits by Massey, Crank,
Macurdy, and Duncan Harrity. Offensively, Massey was 2/2, Crank was 3/4,
Macurdy, Jones, and Harrity were 2/2. Josh pitched 5 innings for the
complete game win, recording 5 K's. Game 3: The Tigers swept
the series, winning the third game 10-7. The Tigers scoring started in
the 4th. Hits in the inning came from Blake Crank, Corbett Kessler, AJ
Braun, Adam Smith, and Blake Massey. The Tigers added 3 more in the 5th
and 2 more in the 7th. Offensively, Crank was 2/3 with a HR. Pitching
was handled by Jonathon Blake, Parker Dickson (gets the win), AJ Braun,
Will Bishop, Luke Harris, and Stephen Hill.
4/2/10 - Tigers win game 1 versus Buckhorn 12-2
Game 1: The Tigers hosted
Buckhorn and won 12-2. The scoring starting started in the 1st inning.
Blake Massey singled and scored on Brandon Lawing's triple. Blake Crank
was hit by pitch and Alex Luna doubled. Both scored on a single by Josh
Macurdy. In the 2nd inning, Massey singled and Patrick Dodson walked.
Massey scored on a Lawing single and Dodson scored on a Crank single.
Lawing scored on a Luna single and Crank scored on a Macurdy sac fly.
This put the score at 8-0 after 3 innings. The Bucks scored two runs in
the fourth. The Tigers answered back in the bottom of the inning with a 3
run HR by Ben Hall. Dillon Ortman picks up the win, going 4 innings.
Jonathon Black finished the 5th inning in relief.
3/30/10 - Tigers split DH with Bob Jones Game 1:
In the first game of the DH, Grissom won 14-11. The Tigers scored
early. Blake Massey singled and scored on a passed ball. Patrick Dodson
added a single and scored on a Duncan Harrity double. Bob Jones answered
back, scoring 4 runs in their half inning. In the 2nd inning, Massey
walked and scored on a Dodson double. But, the Patriots added 4 more in
the inning to make it 8-3. The Tigers closed the gap in the 3rd. Blake
Crank opened with a HR. Duncan walked, Josh Macurdy singled and both
scored on a 3 run HR by Alex Luna to make it 8-7. The Tigers added 4
more in the 4th with a 2 RBI bases loaded double by Alex. Leading 11-9
going into the 5th, the Tigers added three insurance runs. Crank
singled, Duncan singled, Josh RBI singled, and Zac March RBI sac fly did
the scoring. Will Bishop started on the mound with relief from Ben
Hall, who picks up the win and Stephen Hill.
Game 2: In the second
game of the DH, Grissom lost 11-6. The Tigers started out with a Blake
Massey lead-off HR. Going into the top of the 5th inning, Grissom
trailed 6-1. In the 5th, Alex Luna doubled followed by 2 run HR by
Dillon Ortman. Corbett Kessler doubled. Patrick Dodson singled and Blake
Crank doubled. The Tigers tied the score at 6-6. The Patriots scored
in the 6th and held on for the win. Trey Thornton pitched 6 with relief
from Stephen Hill.
3/27/10 - Tigers win first and drop second game at
Hazel Green Game 2: In the second game of the area
series, the Tigers won 2-0 to clinch the series. This turned out to be a
pitcher's duel between Grissom's Josh Macurdy and Hazel Green's Grant
Bennett. For 4 innings, it was 3 up, 3 down on both sides. In the top
of the 5th, Zac Marsh got on by error. Ben Hall singled and Blake Massey
walked. Patrick Dodson then delivered a 2 RBI single for the only runs
in the game. Offensively, Ben was 2/3 with a double. Josh pitched a two
hitter, going 5 1/3 innings for the win with Grant Bush picking up the
save in relief.
Game 3: In the third game,
the Tigers lost 7-3. Blake Massey went 2/4, Patrick Dodson went 2/4,
and Ben Hall added a double. Jonathon Black (3 1/3 innings) and Stephen
Hill (3 2/3 innings) handled the pitching duties.
3/26/10 - Tigers win first area game against Hazel
Green 6-2 Game 1: The Tigers won the first game of the
area series 6-2. In the 1st inning, Patrick Dodson got on by error.
Brandon Lawing singled. Patrick scored on a Blake Crank ground out.
Brandon scored on a 2 run HR by Taylor Jones. The Tigers added another
in the 4th on a solo HR by Ben Hall. In the 5th, Josh Macurdy singled
and scored on a 2 run HR by Duncan Harrity. Offensively, Josh and Ben
were 2/2. Dillon Ortman picks up the win with a complete game, 13 K
performance.
3/23/10 - Tigers sweep DH over
Sparkman Game 1: The
Tigers won the first game of a DH by 5-2. The Tigers started the
scoring in the 2nd inning. With two outs, Josh Macurdy hit a solo HR. In
the 3rd inning, Ben Hall lead off with a double and Blake Massey
walked. Both scored on a double by Brandon Lawing. In the 4th inning,
Taylor Jones added a solo HR. Final scoring in the 6th came with a lead
off double by Alex Luna followed by an RBI double by Josh. Offensively,
Josh, Ben, and Patrick Dodson were 2/3. Trey Thornton picked up the win
on the mound.
Game 2: In
the nightcap, the
Tigers won 17-9. The Tigers scored two in the 1st, with Blake Massey and
Patrick Dodson reaching on with singles. They were scored by RBI
singles from Taylor Jones and Josh Macurdy. In the 3rd, Blake Crank
scored on a Duncan Harrity single. Going into the bottom of the 5th
inning, the Tigers trailed 8-4. That was about to change. Josh lead
off with a HR, followed directly by Duncan with a HR. The Tigers sent 11
batters to the plate before recording the first out of the inning.
Every Tiger batter scored with 4 batters scoring twice each in the
inning. Duncan hit a second HR in the inning. Offensively, Massey was
4/5, Dodson was 2/3, Macurdy was 3/3 with 3 RBI's, and Harrity was 3/5
with 5 RBI's. Jonathon Black pitched 3 innings, with relief from Will
Bishop, Josh, and Grant Bush. Josh records the win for the game.
3/19-10 - Tigers travel to Memphis for Spring Break Game 1: The Tigers
played Arlington High School and won 13-3. The Tigers took advantage of
7 walks, 3 hit by pitch, and 8 hits to seal the win. Blake Crank had a
day, going 4-4 with two HR's and 7 RBI's to lead the offense. Blake
Massey added a triple and Patrick Dodson and Taylor Jones added a double
each. On the mound, Jonathon Black pitched 4 innings with 3K's for the
win. Parker Dickson pitched the last inning in relief.
Game 2: The Tigers next
faced Christian Brothers in the double header. Christian Brothers jumped
out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. The Tigers answered
back, scoring 3 in their half inning. Blake Massey lead off with a
single, followed by doubles by Patrick Dodson and Brandon Lawing. The
Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Duncan Harrity lead
off with a walk, single by Corbett Kessler, an RBI double by Dodson, and
a single by Blake Crank. In the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers added two
more, with a single by Massey, walk by Lawing, single by Crank, and an
RBI single by Ben Hall. With two outs in the top of the 7th, Christian
Brothers were able to score 4 runs to take the victory 8-7. Dillon
Ortman went 6 2/3 innings, striking out 8.
Game 3:
The Tigers faced Sylvan Hill from Arkansas and won 20-0. Everyone
contributed offensively, but notables were Taylor Jones with a grand
slam HR, Ben Hall with a 3 run HR, Adam Smith, AJ Braun, and Matthew
Moshier 2/2. Will Bishop pitched 3 innings for the win, with relief help
from Parker Dickson and Blake Stephenson.
Game 4: The final game of the
weekend was against Bartlett High School. After 3 innings, Bartlett
lead 3-0. In the top of the 4th, Alex Luna lead off with a single. Josh
Macurdy then hit a 2 run HR to make it 3-2. The Tigers scored three
more in the 5th. Brandon Lawing lead off with single, followed by
singles by Blake Crank and Alex. Duncan Harrity walked in a run and two
more scored on a fielder's choice/error by Dillon Ortman. In the 6th,
Patrick Dodson walked and Blake Crank hit a 2 run HR to make the score
7-3. Bartlett scored two in the bottom of the 6th to make it 7-5.
Bartlett was able to score three more in the bottom of the 7th to win
8-7. Grant Bush went 5 innings, recording 6 K's. Trey Thornton pitched
in relief.
3/17/10 - Tigers split with Vestavia Game 1: Vestavia came out swinging and
scored 3 in the first innings. The Tigers almost answered back with
Brandon Lawing and Blake Crank singling in the bottom of the inning but
couldn't get home. Offensively, the hits never were strung together
enough to create runs needed when the chance was there. Brandon and
Blake were both 2/3. Trey Thornton and Stephen Hill handled the pitching
duty. Game 2: This game saw Vestavia jump to a 4-1 lead after 4
innings. In the 5th, Trey Thornton lead off with a HR. Ben Hall walked
and Blake Massey singled. Ben scored on Patrick Dodson's single and
Blake scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 4-4. To the bottom
of the 7th. Taylor Jones, pinch hitting, leads off. With a 1-2 count,
the next pitch left the park over the right field fence for a walk-off
HR. Pitching was handled by Grant Bush (2 innings, 4 K's), Will Bishop
(2 innings, 3 K's), Jonathon Black (2 innings, 3 K's), and Dillon Ortman
(1 inning, 2 K's) who picks up the win 3/9/10 - Tigers sweep DH versus Boaz Game 1: The
Tiger players combined for 17 hits in the first game. Blake Massey was
5/5 with two doubles, Brandon Lawing was 2/5 with HR, double, and 4
RBI's. Blake Crank added a HR. Josh Macurdy was 2/3 and Zack Marsh was
3/4 with two doubles. Blake Stephenson added a triple. Trey Thornton
went 3 innings pitching for the win, with Ben Hall and Grant Bush in
relief. Game 2: The bats continued in the second game, combining for
18 hits. Massey was 3/4 with a HR and 4 RBI's. Dillon Ortman was 2/3
with a HR. AJ Braun and Josh Macurdy were 3/5. Jonathon Blake pitched 3
innings, with reilef from Stephen Hill and Grant Bush.
3/5/10 - LaGrange, GA Invitational
Tournament The Tigers traveled to
LaGrange, GA to play in a tournament with 9 other high caliber teams.
The competition included state champs from AL and GA, along with
perennial late round playoff teams. Congratulations to Duncan Harrity
and Blake Crank for making the All Tournament team !!
3/5/10 - Tigers defeat defending AL 6A
state champs Auburn 2-1 The
Tigers looked forward to facing the defending 6A state champs from last
year. From the first pitch, this game was high excitement. And the first
pitch of the game was ato third on a single
by Josh Macurdy. Duncan Harrity laid down a beautiful sac bunt for a
base hit, scoring Dillon for the go ahead run. Offensively, solo HR by Blake Massey. The Tigers loaded the bases after the HR
but couldn't plate any more runners.
Auburn scored the tying run in the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th,
Dillon Ortman walked and was moved Josh went 2/3 and Blake had the HR. Dillon pitched a great
complete game. He recorded 10 K's, including 2 in the 7th.
3/5/10 - Tigers win 6-3 over Lagrange, GA
High In
the night game, the Tigers faced host Lagrange High School and won
6-3. Patrick Dodson started the scoring in the 1st with a solo HR. In
the 2nd, Duncan Harrity and Ben Hall had back-to-back HR's. In the 5th,
Blake Massey led off with a double and scored on a single by Brandon
Lawing. Blake Crank added a double in the inning. Trey Thornton pitched
a complete game for the win. He recorded 9 K's.
3/6/10 - Tigers lose 7-6 against Newnan, GA
High The
Tigers lost a close one to a hard hitting Newnan team. In the 2nd
inning, Duncan Harrity lead off with a HR. In the 3rd inning,
back-to-back HR's by Brandon Lawing and Blake Crank cut the score to 5-3
in favor of Newnan. In the 4th, Duncan lead off with a single, Alex
Luna and Blake Massey walked. With 2 outs, Patrick Dodson delivered a
shot down the first base line for a two run double. This gave the Tigers
the lead 6-5. Newnan was able to plate two runs in the bottom of the
6th for the victory. Blake and Duncan were both 2/3. Josh Macurdy
pitched 5 innings with Stephen Hill in relief in the 6th.
3/6/10 - Tigers lose 11-7 against Hillcrest The Tigers lost the
final game to Hillcrest. The offense didn't really start until the 6th
inning, where 5 runs were scored, but this was to little to late.
Hillcrest did all their scoring in the 1st and 3rd innings. Only three
of the runs were earned, the rest coming after an error in each of the
two innings gave Hillcrest a chance to continue at bat. Offensively,
Trey Thornton was 3/3, Duncan Harrity hit a 3 RBI HR, and Blake Massey
added a double. Jonathon Black pitched three innings, followed by Grant
Bush for three innings.
3/1/10 - Tigers win two over Lee Game 1: The Tigers hosted
Lee and won the first game 14-8. Brandon Lawing started the scoring in
the 1st inning with a 2 run HR. In the 2nd inning, Josh Macurdy and Ben
Hall scored on a single by Patrick Dodson. In the 3rd, Duncan Harrity
scored on a sac fly by Josh and Blake Stephenson scored after reaching
on a fielders choice. In the 5th inning, Josh, Blake, and Paul James all
scored on a triple by Patrick. AJ Braun scored on a sac fly by Brandon
and Blake Crank scored on a double by Josh. Scoring ended in the 6th,
with Blake and Paul scoring on a single by Crank. Matthew Moshier
pitched 4 innings. Nick Baldwin and Parker Dickson pitched in relief
with Nick picking up the win, Game 2: In the DH, Grissom won 13-5. Josh Macurdy
hit a double, scored on an error by a ball hit by Alex Luna, and Alex
scored on a single by Blake Crank. The Tigers scored 11 runs in the 2nd
inning with base hits by Blake Stephenson, Corbett Kessler, Daniel James
(single & double), and Ben Hall (single & triple). Parker
Dickson started the game, picking up the win. He had relief from Ben and
AJ Braun.
2/27/10 - Tigers
drop two close games with Pelham Game 1: The Tigers hosted #18 ranked (Easton
Pre-season poll) Pelham and lost game one 3-2. The Tigers jumped out to
a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Blake Massey lead off, reaching on
error. Brandon Lawing walked. Both were moved over on Duncan Harrity's
sac bunt. Massey scored on Blake Crank's sac fly. Patrick Dodson walked
and Brandon scored on Josh Macurdy's reach by error. This was all the
scoring the Tigers could produce. Pelham scored two in the third on two
homeruns. The unearned go ahead/winning run was scored in the 5th
inning. Dillon Ortman pitched a complete game, recording 8 K's.
Game 2: The
Tigers were ready for the second game and came out in the 1st inning
scoring again. Brandon Lawing and Blake Crank singled. Both scored on a
single by Dillon Ortman. The Tigers scored again in the 5th after Blake
Massey hit a double and scored on an error off the bat of Patrick
Dodson. The Tigers scored again in the 5th inning after Crank and Ortman
both walked, were moved over by a sac bunt by Duncan Harrity, and Crank
scored on a sac fly by Josh Macurdy. The Tigers lead 4-0 going into the
top of the 7th. Pelham was able to score 4 runs, only one earned, to
tie the score. The game went back and forth until the 11th inning.
Pelham was able to plate one run to go ahead 5-4. The Pelham middle
infield made two great plays on balls hit up the middle to end the game
and secure the win. Jonathon Black pitched a scoreless 5 innings. He
was relieved by Grant Bush and Stephen Hill.
2/26/10 - Tigers avenge playoff lost last
year to Oxford with win The Tigers faced Oxford at Jax State
University. Oxford had eliminated Grissom in the 3rd round of playoffs
last year and the boys were hungry. Blake Massey lead off with a
double, followed by a double by Brandon Lawing. Blake Crank added a
single to make it 2-0 after one. In the 3rd, Massey was walked, Brandon
singled, Duncan Harrity reached on a fielders choice, and Crank added a
single for two more runs. Oxford added an unearned run in the 3rd, to
make the score 4-1. In the 5th, Crank lead off with a single and scored
on a double by Josh Macurdy. The bases got loaded and the Oxford pitcher
walked one more in to make it 7-1. Offensively, Crank was 3/4 with a
double and 2 RBI's, Macurdy was 2/3 with a double and RBI, and Lawing
was 2/3 with a double. Josh pitched 5 innings, recording 8 K's for the
win. Stephen Hill was in relief for two innings.
2/26/10 - Tigers Win versus Southside The
Tigers traveled to Southside and won 3-2. This game turned out to be a
pitchers duel. The Tigers got on the board in the 3rd when Ben Hall
walked, was moved to third on a double by Blake Massey, and scored on a
Brandon Lawing sac fly. Southside answered in their half inning with an
unearned run. The game stayed 1-1 until the 7th. Josh Macurdy lead off
the inning, reaching base on an error. Trey Thornton sac bunt moved him
to second. Dillon Ortman hit a double, scoring pinch runner Zack Marsh.
Ben Hall added a double, scoring Ortman. Southside added one more
unearned run in the 7th but wasn't enough. Trey pitched a complete
game, 75 pitch, 1 hit performance for the win.
2/23/10 - Tigers Win TOC/Huntsville Hospital
Pre-season tournament The Tigers
defeated Huntsville 14-10 to win the pre-season tournament. It was a
great game and the players worked hard for 7 innings. The scoring
started in the first inning with Brandon Lawing getting HBP and scoring
on Duncan Harrity's double. Blake Crank then hit a 2 run HR. In the 2nd
inning, AJ Braun walked, Patrick Dodson singled, and Duncan was HBP.
Josh Macurdy then delivered a grand slam HR, putting the Tigers up 7-2.
The Panthers took the lead by scoring 7 runs in the 3rd inning, only 2
of them earned. The Tigers answered in the 5th, scoring 7 runs. Patrick
walked, Duncan got on by error, and Blake got a single to score Patrick.
Josh was HBP and Ben Hall got a single, scoring Duncan. Blake Massey
walked and Josh scored on Trey Thornton's sac fly. AJ walked and Ben and
Blake scored on Brandon's double. Jonathon Black started the game,
going 3 innings. Stephen Hill was in 3 innings of relief and Grant Bush
closed out the 7th.
2/22/10 - Tigers move into Finals with 9-2 win over
Buckhorn The Tigers generated 9
hits and capitalized on 10 walks to win over Buckhorn and advance to the
Finals. Offensively, Dillon Ortman was 2/3 with 4 RBI's and Blake
Massey was also 2/3. Dillon picked up the win, pitching 5 innings with 8
K's.
2/20/10 - Tigers win 14-7
over Sparkman The Tigers started the scoring in
the first inning with a triple by Brandon Lawing. He scored one batter
later and then Blake Crank hit a solo HR. The Tigers added two more in
the 2nd inning. The 4th inning saw 7 base hits, getting 6 runs.
Offensively, Brandon hit for the cycle, going 4/5. Blake was 4/5.
Patrick Dodson added two hits, including a triple. Josh Macurdy added
two hits, including a double. The offense generated 17 hits, with
everyone in the line-up with at least one. Josh picked up the win on the
mound, pitching 5 innings with 2 earned runs.
2/19/10 - Tigers lose 4-3 versus Austin The
Tigers couldn't overcome several errors and lost a close game against
Austin. Offensively, the Tigers never really got going. Trey Thornton
was 2/3 with 1 RBI to lead the offense. Trey also pitched a very good
complete game, allowing only 1 earned run. The Tigers will now face
Sparkman in a semi-final game on Saturday.
2/18/10 - Tigers win 18-0
over Sheffield Everyone contributed in the win
over Sheffield. Offensively, Dillon Ortman had 5 RBI's with a 2 run HR
and a clearing of bases loaded double. Ben Hall and Paul James also had
two hits apiece. Duncan Harrity added 3 RBI's and the team combined for
11 hits total. Jonathan Black started on the mound and worked three
scoreless innings, striking out 7 of 9 batters. Parker Dickson and
Matthew Moshier (struck out side) added 1 inning of relief each.
2/17/10 - Tigers defeat Madison Academy 7-6 in
first pre-season game
The Tigers opened up their season defeating Madison Academy
7-6. Scoring started in the 1st inning when Duncan Harrity hit a 2 run
HR with his first at bat. The game stayed 2-0 until the 5th inning. The
Tigers took advantage of 2 walks and 4 HBP to score 4 runs. Madison
Academy came back to close the score to 6-4 going into the 7th inning.
Josh Macurdy lead off the 7th inning with a double and later scored on
Blake Massey's double. The Mustang's mounted a comeback before Grant
Bush came in relief with runners on 1st and 2nd to strike out the batter
for the save. Offensively, Duncan was 2/3 with 3 RBI's and Josh was
2/3 with 1 RBI. Dillon Ortman pitched 5 scoreless innings, recording 6
K's with 3 hits.
