FOREVER THE 12TH MAN!!!
Lawrenceville- Matthew Cole, the 1st Head Football Coach for the New SFL team, The Gwinnett Shield WENT HOME WITH THE LORD on July 4th, 2009.
He was 38 years old.
Now we have openly spoke about his HOME GOING, Let us, the Gwinnett Shield Football organization speak about how Matthew Cole Lived.
A native of California, Matthew Cole
He began later in his life as a young man doing things that hurt the very people that loved him and was creating the wrong type of reputation for himself that almost carried over into his adult life...
That was until he GOD
Matthew found a new outlet for his LOVE OF PEOPLE. Matthew developed a new love and passion that became the foundation for his life. Matthew found something that helped him gain new brothers in this SHIELD of warriors whose objection was one thing...
Matthew left the mean streets of his native California behind him and moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia.
After playing with several semi-pro teams in Georgia, Matthew, along with Shields' owner, Rod Thompson formed and orgainzed a new SEMI PRO football team, The GWINNETT SHIELD.
But Matthew also began something new in his life as well. Matthew Cole accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
When Matt accepted Christ, his life changed. He was devoted to his church Family, Trinity Life Church in Lawrenceville AND HIS SHIELD FAMILY.
Matthew's life was more about service to others than himself. He love Football, but loved Jesus Christ more! He dedicated himself to Christ by serving those in need and gave of himself the way Christ gave for us.
Matthew dreamed of having his team and players attending church. Matthew prayed for his team and prayed that those didn't know Jesus Christ, on and off the field, will know him and will be willing to accept Christ as Lord and Savior...
Just as Matthew did.
Gwinnett Shield Football orgaization work has just begun.
Gwinnett Shield Football will honor Matthew Cole as "The 12th Man"
The "12th Man" is the highest honor any Gwinnett Shield Football player, coach, or staff member could ever receive from this family.
