Spurs Red vs. Aldergrove - Saturday March 24

Spurs Red began their 2012 exhibition schedule with a 13-8 win over the Aldergrove Dodgers on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Aldergrove. The Spurs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 4 but the game was tied 7-7 going into the final inning. A 6-run 7th then shutting down the Dodgers sealed the victory. It was a complete team effort with 12 hits and some smart baserunning leading to the 13 runs. Defensively, the Spurs were sound and received good pitching from 4 pitchers and threw out 2 baserunners trying to steal 2nd. The exhibition schedule resumes tomorrow with a double-header vs. Maple Ridge

Spurs Red vs. Ridge Meadows - Sunday March 25 Gm 1

On another gorgeous sunny afternoon in Maple Ridge, the Spurs Red eked out a close 3-2 win in a pitching battle against the Ridge Meadows Royals. 3 Spurs pitchers combined to hold RM to 6 hits and one walk and good defensive play limited them to 2 runs. Although only 4 hits themselves, all were timely and combined with some good base running got the Spurs the 3 runs they needed to win.

Spurs Red vs. Ridge Meadows - Sunday March 25 Gm 2

Although jumping out to a 5-0 lead after 1.5 innings, the Spurs ran out of steam in the second half of the double header and were outmuscled 14-6 by a hard hitting Ridge Meadows Royals. RM's 12 hits and untimely errors by the Spurs contributed to the 14 runs. Spurs showed no quit and pulled within 1 in the 5th innings but the Royal's bats were too hot on this warm afternoon as they scored half of their runs in the last 2 innings to seal the victory. Up next, the Spurs Jamboree tournament.

Spurs Red vs. Tri Cities - Sunday April 1

There was no foolin; the Tri Cities Indians on a cool but clear Sunday afternoon at the Cloverdale Ballpark. Only 4 innings were played and TC got out to an early 4-0 lead in the first. The Spurs Reds clawed back 3 runs in the second and another 3 in the fourth but gifted TC too many runs and 6 was not enough. Both teams had 6 hits and 2 errors but TC gave up less walks and were smarter baserunners on the day. Still, lots of encouraging aspects of the game and optimism for a very competitive regular season ahead!
