Game Recap: Suffern vs Northern Highlands
Posted November 29, 2019
On Black Friday, the Mounties took to the ice and played their first game of the 2019-20 season. Not only was this the home opener at Sport-O-Rama, but it was their first game since playing Syracuse for the championship game in Buffalo. While things were quiet for both teams in the first period, it was the second that featured plenty of action. Just barely into the second period, NH would score on the power play to take a 1-0 lead. It would only be a matter of time before Suffern would respond, and they answered back with three straight goals. Less than four minutes after Northern Highland's goal, the Mounties would take advantage of their own power play, as CJ Olsen tied the game. Several minutes into the second period, Olsen's point shot helped give Suffern a 2-1 lead. This would be the senior's second of the night, as well as the second of three points he would get in the game. The third goal of the period was scored by Colin Nolan, which was his first as a Varsity player. In the third period, Northern Highlands caused some late-game drama, scoring with just 2:39 left in the period to tie up the game. The game would then go on to overtime, where Ben Burns notched the game winner, capping off a thrilling home opener. Ryan Schelling and CJ Olsen both had three-point nights, with the former getting his 100th point as a Varsity player.
