Stars Win Two

A ‘two-fer’ SGR this week. Yours truly has been up to eyeballs in planting spring crops, and off to do some fly fishin’ this week leaving little time for the SGR.

Stars 10 Royals 2

“I’m not Big Lefty field” proved kind to the Stars week before last. The bats came alive as the Stars collected 16 base hits. Simply led the way going 3 for 4. Chester had a couple of hits along with 3 RBIs. Ikat and Crash also picked up two hits apiece. Simply and Physio combined to limit the Royals to two runs on eight hits. Simply picks up his second W of the season and Physio his second five inning save.

Stars 12 Pirates 2

The hot bats were on display this past Saturday at Pinter Field in a carbon copy of the game a week before. Stars put up 15 hits this time while scoring 12 runs. Crash continued to drive opposing pitchers crazy going 3 for 4 including his second and third doubles of the season. Tup had a two hit day picking up 3 RBIs with 2 coming on a well placed ball down the right field line to finish off a five run Fifth for the good guys. Simply picked up his third W of the season pitching allowing just one unearned run on 2 hits while striking out 3 Pirates. The Kamloops Kid had his first outing with the Stars pitching 4 strong innings allowing just one run while stranding 6 runners on base. Big play by Physio throwing out a runner at first from RF to end a rally in the Seventh. Stars turned a double play in the Fourth and Big Lar made like a Barnum and Bailey juggler (a drunk one) to catch a pop -up to end the Fifth. KK helped his own cause picking off a Pirate runner in the Fifth who the Stars dispatched in a textbook two throw rundown. Physio closed the final two innings.

The SGR mailbag (under the mat behind the Landing) received the first letter of the year. It comes from Lt. Colonel I. C. Magutts, Commandant, Commissionaires of Canada, Block E, Third Floor, Room 222, Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Ontario, H0H 0H0. It reads as follows: “Dear Mr. SGR, I am in receipt of your letter dated 14 April 2017. In regards to your query I can confirm that members of the Commissionaires are not authorized to conduct pat downs or body searches other than when they are on duty at their respective military base. Any attempt by a Commissionaire while off duty to “frisk” someone should not be considered officially authorized by the Canadian government. Frisking is an essential tool used by the Commissionaires to keep Canada safe. The Commissionaires of Canada consider themselves to be professional friskers, and uphold the highest standards of professional frisking including adhering to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel Declaration on Frisking. Thank you for your inquiry. Sincerely.” Wow! Who knew.

Stars are now 3-0 and off to their best start since, well,… last year. Who is ecstatic. Play continues next Saturday morn at South Surrey against the Eagles.
