Stars 6 Royals 1

I think it was Billy Martin, the seven time manager of the New York Yankees who coined the phrase 'winning ugly.' Or it may have been someone completely different. Hey, it's not like people turn to the SGR for facts and figures like its the Encyclepedia Britannica or something. (Look it up. I suggest Wikipedia.) I mean maybe to resolve a bar bet someone would, but I doubt if NASA scientists spend much time on the SGR. (If you ARE from NASA I would love to go to space. Just sayin'.)

Regardless, the SGR is formally coining the phrase 'winning hard' with Saturday's 6 to 1 victory over the Surrey Royals being a case in point. Take the bottom of the fourth for instance. Down 1-0, the inning starts out promising with Simpy on third and OConn on second with no outs. IKat hits a soft grounder to short that looks to score a sure run. But no. The shortstop brushes OConn on his way to third and is called out for Interference and Simpy has to go back to third. Next, The Champ hits a grounder to the first baseman who makes a late throw to home allowing Simpy to score the Stars first run. Next up is Hardcore who hits a grounder to the shortstop who makes a late throw to home allowing IKat to score. With runners on first and third with one out Tup gets called out for Interference when he steps across the plate trying to put the bat on a high outside pitch on a hit and run play. Two outs with runners on first and third. Lefty steps up to the plate and hits a single scoring The Champ and sending Hardcore to third. And get this; NO INTERFERENCE CALL!!!  Hardcore then scores on a wild pitch for the fourth run of the inning. That's a hard way to score four runs. 

Great pitching by TrainRick and Simpy. The only run scored was by the first batter of the game who should have been out but for a dropped pop up by the Stars first baseman who shall remain nameless. And by nameless I mean that Big Lar no longer has a name. After that TrainRick allows just 4 hits striking out 6 over five innings. Simpy followed allowing 2 hits while striking out 5 including squelching a bases loaded rally in the seventh with back to back strikeouts. 

Stars collected all of 5 hits(see earlier reference re:winning hard) with OConn going 3 for 4. Batting practice is in order. That or someone has to come out and mow the infield grass before the next.

Tup Player of the Game goes to The Lil' Champ (sorry OConn.) With one out in the top of the ninth The Champ misplayed a pop up that ended up hitting him where one would normally be wearing a cup. Now views on this were mixed. Some thought he lost the ball in the sun. Others thought he was a bit too nonchalant(look it up but don't tell The Champ.) Still others were shocked to find out he wasn't wearing a cup. But while the views were being mixed like a 007 martini, a voice of encouragement came roaring out of the dugout: "Fo-get-a-bout-it-seven!!! Now views on this were mixed. Some thought that was pretty mature for a young kid. Others thought The Lil' Champ would regret not saving the moment to give The Champ the gears. Still others were STILL shocked to find out The Champ wasn't wearing a cup! Way to go The Lil" Champ for propping up The Champ when he needed it! (But, make sure to wear your cup. On that there were no mixed views. You'll thank us later. Just sayin'.)

(BTW: What is it about the Olympics that cause people to watch things like synchronized diving(huh?) or rythmic gymnastics?)

(BTW2: Did you hear the Russians were banned from the Paralympic Games? Apparently even their fake limbs were fake! {enter rim shot here} Try the veal!)
