SGR: Making Baseball Great Again!
The Stars can be accused of being a lot of things, smart, good looking, quick witted, … did I mention smart? But, one thing we can’t be accused of is being quitters. Well, so long as you don't count that bus driving pitcher we had way back when, who walked off the field to his car (or was it a bus?) in the middle of a game a few years ago and never came back. Today, however, the Stars rallied in the top of the ninth to score 5 runs to tie the game on a barrage of base hits and walks that culminated (look it up) by way of a 'hot box' (ie early steal) by Tup that allowed Physio to steal home for the tying run while Tup kept the defense pre-occupied in a run down between 1st and 2nd before Tup was finally caught for the third out. Whew! An exclamation point was added when IKat threw out a runner attempting to steal third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to seal the deal.
Great comeback effort by the Stars who plated 3 quick runs in the top of the first, and carried a 3 to 1 lead into the 6th in large part to 5 strong innings on the mound from TrainRick. The Legends got to Simpy who seemed unusually distracted. After a quick team meeting on the mound in the 8th, things appeared to be resolved when we agreed we would be getting Simpy candlesticks or maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern for a wedding present. Unfortunately, even that wasn’t enough, so we returned the candlesticks and place-setting in exchange for a relief pitcher, Physio, who came in and got the final out to take the game to the fateful 9th.
The trauma of kissing your sister aside, the tie was big for the Stars who kept the hard charging Legends at bay in the standings. And speaking of ties, after the game the team headed over to the “pub with the waitress who asks your name and seems to care, but then ignores you the rest of the time” where the conversation turned to politics. The Stars considered the topic: “who was the worst monster in the history of the world: Adolf Hitler or Hillary Clinton?” Now I know what you are thinking. How can you be so unfair to Hitler? But before you go there, are you really sure you want to defend Hitler? Seriously?
Needless to say, the conversation, like our game today, resulted in no clear winner. One thing we all could agree on was that we would much prefer to see Ivanka Trump lurking around he corridors of the White House late at night rather than Bill Clinton. We also agreed that TrainRick was outstanding allowing 1 run on 4 hits as was Physio who allowed just one walk in 1.3 innings of relief. Likewise The Champ had an outstanding victory over an ornery meniscus going 2 for 4 with a key hit and 2 huge RBIs in the 9th. Hardcore and Tup contributed 2 hits each and IKat who had a 3 for 4 day were all thought to have been top drawer. There was also consensus that O'Conn was like a new man at third what with his textbook throwing mechanics and all.
No games this weekend. Stars have 5 games to play in August starting with the Royals at Dugald on August 6.
