Local Nine Thumps Waseca 11-1

WASECA, Minn. – The St. Peter amateur baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak Friday night at the new Tink Larson Community Field with a decisive 11-1, seven-inning victory. The Saints erased a 1-0 deficit after the first inning, collecting 10 hits and 11 walks.
St. Peter tied the game in the second on a bases-loaded walk and then took the lead for good in the third after a single, walk, wild pitch, and RBI groundout. The Saints added three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings for a 9-1 lead and then tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh for the 10-run rule.
Sam Wenner led the team at the plate, batting 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs, two RBI, and a stolen base. Jovan Rodriguez continued his hot streak with a pair of hits and three runs.
Jesse Anderson tossed his second consecutive complete game, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts. Anderson has now pitched 26 innings in four starts.
St. Peter, now 2-3 overall, will compete in the High Life Invite this weekend, hosted by Arlington and Gaylord. The Saints’ first round opponent in the 16-team bracket is Dawson at 8:45 p.m. Friday in Gaylord.
