Saints open playoffs with 7-3 win over Fairfax

The St. Peter town team opened Region 6C playoffs Friday at Veterans Field and came away with a 7-3 victory over Fairfax to advance to the semifinals.
Ty Kaus got the scoring going by drawing a walk in the third inning and then scoring on a double by Shea Roehrkasse. The Saints took a 3-0 lead in the fourth as Jeff Menk and Jayme Munsterman both walked and scored on a double by Jordan Wilmes. The Cardinals answered in the fifth with one run on a double, single, and an error. They also added a run in the sixth after four singles.
St. Peter increased its lead to 6-2 in the sixth. Menk singled and was pinch ran for by Alex Klug. Munsterman laid down a sacrifice bunt and Sam Wenner singled. Wilmes responded with another two-run double and later scored on a single by Kaus. The Saints added another run in the seventh as Seth Wenner walked and scored on a double by Sam Wenner.
Fairfax scored its third run in the eighth after a pair of walks and a sac fly, but it was too little, too late as St. Peter won by a four-run margin.
Wilmes had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and four RBI. Menk reached base safely in all four at-bats, going 1-for-1 with three walks and a run.
Cullen Bruce picked up the win on the mound after throwing six innings. He allowed two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Jesse Anderson threw the final three frames, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout and two walks.
