BRAVES USE LONG BALL TO CLOBBER JAYS

BRAVES USE LONG BALL TO CLOBBER JAYS
Two days after a disappointing loss to the first place Rosalind Athletics, the Tofield Braves would bounce back nicely against the second place Holden Blue Jays with a 11-3 win. Powering the Braves offence was veteran Rob Berrecloth who would hit a three run home run in the first inning and finish the evening with four RBIs.

Jays hurler Grayson Suprovich would get pounced on quickly by the Braves offence as lead off hitter Dylan Berrecloth would start the game with a single ahead of Chad Nelson's single to but two on for Rob Berrecloth. One of the longest tenured active players in the PBL, Berrecloth has been on fire to start his Braves career collecting a base hit in each of the six games he has played in. On Thursday night it was a majestic three run home run and a 3-0 lead that would infinite the Braves offence for eleven runs.

Small ball was an option for the Braves as well, in the second inning first baseman Dane McCarty would come around to score on a Nelson sacrifice fly after moving into scoring position with a stolen base and another single by Dylan Berrecloth. Three times the Braves would get a lead off single to start an inning and three times they would translate into runs on the board.

The Braves would capitalize on some rather unstable defensive play from the Jays, who would go on to commit a total of five errors scored by the official scorer.

Three Brave hitters would finish the game with three hits, Dylan Berrecloth (3 for 4 with 2 runs scored), Chad Nelson (3 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a sac fly) and Dane McCarty (3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI) as the team would collect thirteen hits against Suprovich.

Making his second start of the season, right handed Barry Truss would allow only five hits over his five innings of work. Only one of the three runs would be earned against Truss as a fielding error and throwing error would lead to two of the three Jay runs.

Truss would tie Corey Epp's franchise record for consecutive outs in a game after retiring eight Jays in a row from the top of the first to the top of the fourth. The Braves how now outscores opponents 22-3 in games that Truss has started, a 11-0 win against the Sherwood Park Athletics and tonight's 11-4 win over the Jays.

After a blown save and shaky outing on Tuesday night, the Braves bullpen bounced back extremely well on Thursday. Chad Nelson would come out from behind the plate to pitch a perfect sixth and seventh for the Braves, retiring all six Jays he faced. The two inning extended save is Nelson's second save of the season, his first a one batter save against the Armena Royals on May 23.

The win against the Jays, a team ahead of them in the standings, is big for the Braves as they now hold the season series run differential tie break 16-10 (Jays won 7-5 & Braves won 11-3).

The home stand will continue for the Braves on Tuesday when they take on the now 0-6 Armena Royals at the Tofield Sports Grounds. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season, the Braves won the first one 9-5 in Tofield on May 23 and the third game is scheduled for July 11 in Armena to wrap up the season. As always, the first pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm as the Braves look to keep the momentum going.
