MERCY! BRAVES ROUT SHERWOOD PARK
The Tofield Braves captured their first mercy win in franchise history on Thursday night with a 11-0 win over the Sherwood Park Athletics. It is the first time that the Powerline Baseball League's two newest franchises have met in regular season play.

The Braves offence would set two walk records in the game as they would be walked a total of ten times in five innings, three of which went to Mark Lawson for the most walks in a single game in franchise history. It was also a historic night for the baserunners as the Braves would steal six bases, all in the team's four run top of the first inning, by five different players.

Catcher Dylan Berrecloth would start the game with a walk and a stolen base to set up what would turn out to be the winning run as centre fielder Chad Nelson would collect a RBI single. Shortstop Dylan Solberg would make it 3-0 with a two RBI single before getting picked off at first in an awkward play. Third baseman Corey Epp would make it 4-0 for the Braves with a one out RBI single of his own before Athletics pitcher Bret Barron would finally get out of the inning after allowing four runs on three hits and three walks.

Mark Lawson would steal the show for the Braves batting in the nine hole. The right fielder would finish the game 0 for 0 with three walks and three runs scored.

A second inning RBI triple to the right centre gap from Nelson would be the franchises first triple and Nelson's second of three RBIs on the night.

Veteran Barry Truss would make his first appearance of the season for the Braves on the mound pitching three solid innings allowing three singles and a walk to the Athletics while striking out three and picking off one. Former Ryley Rebels ace Dylan Solberg would pitch his first innings for the Braves and the first since 2014. Solberg would earn the win in relief, pitching the fourth and fifth innings striking out four of the eight Athletics he would face.

The combination of Truss and Solberg was too much for the Athletics as the first year team from Sherwood Park was only able to get two runners into scoring position and did not put much pressure on the Braves defence.

The win puts the Braves at 3-2 on the season and 1.5 games back of the 4-0 Rosalind Athletics. The Braves will have an opportunity to gain a game on Rosalind as the Athletics come to Tofield on Tuesday June 6. Rosalind was victorious in the only other meeting between these two teams this season, with a 5-3 win on Opening Day.

The Sherwood Park Athletics on the other hand find themselves at the bottom of the PBL standings early in the season. Thursday's 11-0 rout has been the third time this year the A's have allowed ten or more runs and the second time they have been mercied, both by shutouts as well.

First pitch on Tuesday will be 7:00pm at the Tofield Sports Grounds in the Braves biggest game of this early Powerline Baseball League season.
