Mohawks Heading Back to the League Championship Series
Posted August 8, 2017
The Morden Mohawks completed the sweep of the Winkler Whips in the best-of-three Semi-Final Series with a 5-4 win on Friday night in Winkler. The Whips scored first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Tribe answered back with four of their own in the top of the second. Winkler got one run back in the bottom of the third and then tied it up at four with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Moffatt hit an RBI double for the Mohawks in the top of the sixth to take the lead 5-4. After retiring the side in order in the bottom of the sixth, Mohawks pitcher Derek Holenski then stranded the tying run at second base with a strikeout to end the game.
The score was a little misleading as to how well the Mohawks offense really was. Despite only pushing five runs across the plate, the Tribe whacked 16 hits off Whips starter John Elias, who took the complete game loss. Winkler produced their four runs from only six hits off Holenski who secured the win with a complete game as well.
The Mohawks now await the winner of the Pilot Mound and Cartwright series. That Semi-Final series is currently tied at one game a piece as Cartwright took game two 4-3. Game three in that series goes Tuesday night in Pilot Mound.
