Orioles Finish Great Season with Heated Finale

The Orioles rolled into Friday night with a 13-6 record and were ready to face off against the Panthers of Dakota Velley. The Orioles had an emotional night as it was the last regular season game for eight seniors. In this article, you will learn what kind and how the Lennox vs Dakota Valley game happened and you will also learn a little about the eight seniors who will possibly put their jersey on for the last time Thursday.

The Orioles were ready to battle vs a 15 win and 4 loss Dakota Valley team. The Orioles started off red hot and I mean RED HOT! It was 18 to 6 after the first quarter and it turned quickly to a 26 to 12 lead for the Orioles. However, Dakota Valley finished the second quarter the right way and made it 33-28 at halftime with the Orioles still leading. The Dakota Valley defense was very impressive in the third quarter as they held Lennox to five points and took a 39 to 38. In the fourth quarter, Lennox would fall down right away as they trailed 52-51 with 30 seconds to go. Hinker dribbled to the right wing and then started to drive. The Dakota Valley defender sunk down to assist on Hinker when Hinker made a sweet pass to Leisinger in the corner and then… BANG! Leisinger nailed the three to make it 54-52 with 22 seconds left. Dakota Valley came down and moved the ball quickly and found a good look for John Prochello who tied it up at 54. Then Hinker inbounded to Oldenkamp who tossed it right back to Hinker and Hinker then went on a mission. He went coast to coast and found an open 10 foot floater which bounced around and finally fell in. The crowd roared as loud as possible as there was only 1 second left. However a charge was called on Hinker and so the basket did not count. Dakota Valley’s inbound was thrown off the ceiling in Lennox and it was ruled a turnover. Lennox took over and after a timeout, Leisinger pulled the trigger on a long three as time expired and it was just short of money. In overtime, Lennox never really found their stride and that cost them the win as the final score was 68-61. It was a tough loss for Lennox but it may be just what the doctor ordered. They played a spectacular game where the defense and offense clicked and it proved they can hang with or even beat any team in the state.

This was the last regular season game for eight very influential players from Lennox. There are a couple bigger named players such as Jacob Hinker, Tyler Leisinger, John Oldenkamp and Collin McEntee who have made a big impact over the past three season. However the other five seniors have been highly influential and meaningful to the Lennox such as Mitchell Peters, Nick Kayl, Masen Oltmanns, and Jacob Lackas. The Orioles are very appreciative of the all-out effort that these eight seniors have given the Orioles and the Oriole basketball program over the last four years. The Oriole team and Oriole fans would all say how appreciative they are of these eight guys.

Now these is an apology that I have to say. In my previous article I stated how Lennox could not fall to fourth, however there was a math error and that cost the Orioles to fall to the fourth seed. However Lennox does host Beresford on Thursday, March 3rd. Check out either tonight or tomorrow to see the next Oriole Article. The next article will be about Oriole basketball and how the playoffs are setting up. By Oriole basketball, we don’t just mean boys, we also mean girls.
