All Pistons Were Firing Against Brownton

It was a perfect night to play a baseball game or attend one. The night started out a little bittersweet as the Cologne honored one of their great fans, Rick Twait. Rick was a tremendous personality of the Cologne Hollanders for many years. As the voice of the Hollanders his voice would fill Robert G. Fritz Field to tell the town that the boys of summer were playing. The Twait family was present for the pregame ceremony. Lori Twait watched as daughter Teagan threw out the first pitch to long-time Hollander Kyle. After some emotional hugs the game was underway.

It didn't take long for something to cheer about. Alex Eichner was called to start the game on the hill for Cologne. He breezed through the first inning throwing only eight pitches, then cruised through the second with only six pitches, and shut down Brownton in the third with only ten pitches. It was the bottom of the third when Cologne could scratch a couple for the lead. Kyle Twait started the action by reaching first on a single. Brandon Fritz advanced Twait to second with a sacrifice bund. Casey Clemensen brought Twait home on a single of his own. Carter Clemensen wasn't very nice to brother Casey all night. With Casey on first, Carter hit a deep double that forced Casey to speed around the bases and score from first. With the two run lead, Eichner shut down the Bruins in the fourth. The bottom half saw another Hollander run as Jon Kummer and Kyle Twait lead off with back-to-back singles. The bases then loaded up after Tanner Luebke reached on an error. Casey Clemensen got his second RBI of the night as a single scored Kummer. The Hollander defense came through in the fifth as Brownton started off the inning with a triple. The runner tried scoring on the next batter, but Casey managed to throw the runner out at the plate for the inning's first out. Eichner took control back and shut it down the rest of the inning. Four Hollanders scored in the bottom of the six to give a little breathing room. Brandon Fritz lead off with a single, followed by a single from Tanner, Casey reached first after getting hit by a pitch, Carter reached on a fielder's choice that got Fritz out at the plate, and then Cole Pengilly delivered a big blow by hitting a double that plated two. It wasn't done yet, as Tim Swanson cleared the cases with a two out, two RBI double. Brownton put a threat together in the seventh as they finally got to Eichner as scored two. Zack Nelson came in to stop Brownton and he did as he got the last out of the inning. The Hollander's were able to stack three more runs on top in their half of the seventh. With two outs the rally started when Tanner got hit by a pitch and Casey singled. With Tanner on second and Casey on first, Carter once again hit a deep ball that forced brought home both Tanner and Casey. Cole then traded spots with Carter as he got his second double of the ballgame. Zack Nelson shut down Brownton in the top of the eighth. The Hollanders were able to keep on the gas in the eighth as Austin Pysick started with a single. Zack reached on a fielder's choice, Cam Conlin reached on a fielder's choice. Rob Mobeck reached on an error that allow Cam to reach third. Casey Clemensen showed twice during the game that he could score from first on a hit and now it was Rob's turn. Anthony Brenner then hit a deep ball, but all eyes were on Mobeck chugging his way around the bases to score and allow the game to end with the ten run rule.

It was a very fun game to play and to watch. Great pitching from Alex Eichner and Zack Nelson made it easy for the rest of the defenders, but when it was needed the Hollanders' gloves really shined. It looks like things are really starting to click for the boys as the start their playoff push. Up next, the Delano Athletics will come to town Wednesday night for a non-league showdown. That is followed up with FIREWORKS AT FRITZ FIELD on Friday night as the Hollanders will take on the Carver Black Sox. Hope to see everyone at the yard as the boys hit the homestretch on the 2018 season.

Ga Hollanders!
