Irish over Hollanders

Last night proved to be a great night for baseball. The temperature and weather were great over a field in Green Isle that was what some would say, "In pristine fairway condition." The Hollanders had a challenge as they faced Green Isle's very tough starting pitcher Mac Zachow. Cologne was able to strike first in the top half of the third inning as Joey Lilya opened the inning with a single, Tanner Luebke moved him into scoring position with a single of his own, and Carter Clemensen raked in the RBI with a double. Unfortunately the lead didn't last long as Green Isle answered with runs in their half of the third inning off two walks and two singles for two runs. Alex Meeker started on the hill for Cologne. Although throwing well for the first few innings, the Irish were able to seperate themselves in the fourth off of a five run rally. Casey Clemensen then took over for Meeker in the fifth and finished out the game giving up zero runs and only two hits.

Even though the Irish had a six run lead after the fourth, the Cologne hitters were able to scratch a few more runs and make rally threats to keep Green Isle on their toes. Unfortunately Cologne's Achille's Heel was at large as the Hollanders were unable to get the big clutch hit as Cologne left seven runners on base in scoring position. The offense was led by Luebke and Carter. Luebke had two hits, a run scored, and a stolen base while Carter had one run scored, two hits (both doubles), and two RBI's.

The Hollanders will enter the Fourth of July break with an overall record of 6-10-1 and with a league record of 3-8. After a good restfull weekend the boys will be back in Cologne on July 5th as they host the New Germany Dutchmen. WIth only nine games left on the 2017 regular season, the boys will be looking to build momentum over those games and enter playoffs running.

The Hollanders hope everyone has a safe and exciting Fourth of July weekend. See you at the ballpark. Ga Hollanders!
