Cougar Girls & Boys Win 1st and 2nd at District and qualify for Regionals 2014

The Cougar Boy & Girl Teams won first and second place at the District 19-5A Golf Tournament on April 2-3, 2014.  The wind was strong and the greens were fast at the River Ridge GC.

The girls won the District Championship by 38 strokes.  The girls shot 299-302 (601).  Seven Lakes came in second at 322-317 (639), and Spring Branch Memorial came in third at 334-322 (656).  The Cougars now move on to Regionals and try to make it to State for the 4th consecutive year.  CRHS junior Maddie Luitwieler won the District Championship individually with a 70-74.  Senior Kennedy Ishee won the second place individual medal one stroke back at 70-75.  Junior Alexis Kollmansberger finished in 4th place with a 78-74, and Junior Sara Kelley finished in 9th place with a 81-79.  Other girl scores included Sophomore Katy Rutherford 82-86, Sophomore Maddison Goldblum 88-83, Junior Sarah Yi 88-89, and Junior Samantha Swanson 91-90.  The girls have now won the District Championship 6 of the last 8 years.

The boys competed against some stiff competition in a fierce District 19-5A.  The Cougar Boys had won 7 District Championships in a row, but finished as Runner-Up this year to Seven Lakes who shot two great rounds.  The Cougar Boys still punched their ticket to the Regional Tournament where they are the defending Region Champions as the top 2 teams from District advance.  The Cougars fought hard to defeat two great teams in Memorial and Strake Jesuit.  CRHS shot 304-300 (604) to beat Strake Jesuit 307-303 (610) and to beat Memorial 300-311 (611).  The Cougars showed a lot of poise and determination which they are known for.  Senior Michael Cotton finished in 3rd place individually with a 72-73 and had two clutch holes to finish.  Freshman Cade Kiser finished in 8th place with a 75-76 in his first top five tournament.  Other Cougar scores were Senior JD Kiesewetter 79-74, Senior Tom McLaughlin 78-78, Sophomore Conor Watkins 81-77, Freshman Jared Bray 75-81, Freshman Jamie Rogers 79-79, Junior Kyle Engel 85-78, Junior Kyle Rogers 85-84, Senior Michael Chittwood 82-86, Senior Nick Brown 85-83, Senior Colby Harper 86-82, and Freshman Lorenzo Siboro 85-86.

The Cougars now travel to Eagle Pointe GC in Mont Belvieu for the Region III-5A Golf Tournament.  The girls play on April 14-15 and the boys play on April 16-17.  The Cougar boys and girls are both trying to make it to State in Austin at Onion Creek CC for the 4th year in a row.  Good luck at Regionals and congratulations for a great District Tournament!
