Posted July 30, 2021

Game 2: Canora Supers 5 at Yorkton Marlins 6 - Wednesday July 28

On Wednesday July 28 the Supers made the trip south to play game two of the finals at the Yorkton Marlins. It was a see saw battle that saw the Marlins come away with a 6-5 victory.

The Supers opened the scoring in the top of the third with a two rbi single from Kody Rock. However the Marlins responded in the bottom half with four consecutive singles and three runs to take the lead. The Marlins would add to the lead an inning later with a pair of doubles to go up 5-2. In the top of the seventh, the Supers would battle back to tie the game, but leave the go ahead run at second base. In the bottom half the Marlins put the game away with an rbi double to tie the series.

Kholton Shewchuk started pitching, while Greg Pelechaty came in relief. Shewchuk gave up five runs on nine hits, three walks and a pair of strikeouts in four innings of work to get the no decision. Greg Pelechaty pitched well in relief but unfortunately took the loss giving up just one run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The bats were relatively quiet with six hits, including a pair of singles and three rbi from Rock. Zach Rakochy had a double, while Travis Mentanko had an rbi single. Phil Sobkow and Kholton Shewchuk each had a single.

Although the Supers took the loss, they showed great character by not giving up and battling hard until the end

Game 3: Yorkton Marlins 2 at Canora Supers 3 - Thursday July 29

With the home team each winning a game, the series shifted back to Canora for the pivitol game three. Both teams were desperate for the win, and left nothing on the field. When all was said and done, the Supers came away with a 3-2 victory, and a 2-1 series lead.

Kody Rock started on the hill with just two days rest, and did not disappoint. He gave up two runs on five hits with ten strikeouts to pick up the win.

The offence went hitless after five innings, and things looked bleak as the Supers trailed 2-0. In the top of the sixth inning, Jason Waldbauer led off with a single, followed by a Chet Bornhorst rbi triple to come within one. With two out, Rock tied the game with an rbi single, shifting the momentum in the Supers favour. After a lead off single in the top of the seventh, Rock made a great play on a popped up sacrifice bunt attempt to record the first out. He would then get out of the inning with a fly out and a strikeout to set the stage for the heart of the order. Travis Mentanko led off the inning, and with two strikes launched a missile over the center field fence to put the crowd in a frenzy as the car horns were honking and the dugout was yelling with joy.

With the loss and the win, the best of five series is now 2-1 for the Supers. The Supers look to wrap up the series on Tuesday, August 3 in Yorkton at 8:30 PM
