Supers Sweep Pirates
Posted July 23, 2021
For the first ever, the Supers were able to defeat their long time nemesis, the Parkland Pirates (formerly Yorkton Yankees) in a playoff series. After unsuccessful attempts in 2015 and 2017 (league Final), the third time was the charm as game two saw the Supers win 14-3, and win the best of three series 2-0.
The offence set the tone early with six runs on five hits in the first inning. More crooked numbers were put on the board in innings 3-5, with 3, 3, and 2 runs scored respectively. Sixteen hits were amassed, with Kody Rock, Zach Rakochy, Jayden Heskin and Jason Waldbauer each recording three apiece. Kholton Shewchuk had two, while Travis Mentanko had a double and Sean Kolodziejski had one single.
The pitching was in fine form, as Shewchuk pitched five innings to get the win. He gave up seven hits, an unearned run and had three walks and two strikeouts to limit the damage. He was able to get out of some jams as the Pirates left ten runners on base. Darcy Blommaert and Greg Pelechaty each threw an inning of relief to finish the game off.
With the win the Supers advance to the league championship series for the third time in four seasons, and look to win back to back titles. They will take on the Yorkton Marlins
