Supers Clinch First Place

Posted July 1, 2019

The Supers clinched first place in the regular season standings with a pair of home victories. The first was a 15-2 win over Roblin and the clincher was an 11-0 win over the defending league champion Langenburg Legends.

Wednesday June 19 - Canora Supers 15 Roblin Stars 2

The Supers looked to exact some revenge from earlier in the season when they were no-hit by Stars pitcher Lyndon Zimmer in Roblin. Once again Zimmer started on the hill for the Stars, but the Supers were ready and blew the game open in a 15-2 win.

Roblin took an early lead in the first, but was shortlived as the Supers scored two in the third. In the bottom of the sixth the Supers scored six and then added nine in the seventh to put it out of reach.

Kholton Shewchuk started on the hill and tossed a six inning gem to pick up the win. He gave up just two runs (one earned) on six hits and three strikeouts with just two walks. Jordan Evans slammed the door in the seventh in mop up duty to end the game.

Offensively Shewchuk led the way with three singles. Brogan Legebokoff, Adam Korb, Jordan Evans and Derek Palagian each had a pair of hits. Travis Mentanko, Ian Quewezance and Tanner Melnychuk each had one hit. Youngster Brody Harrison made his Supers debut as second base and reached base on a fielders choice. Brendan Babichuk was also called up from the Canora 18U Reds and found his way on base three times by drawing a walk and was hit by a pitch twice.

Wednesday June 26 - Supers 11 Langenburg Legends 0

A week later the Supers hosted the Legends and it was the Kody Rock Show from the first pitch until the last, as he threw a one hit shutout with sixteen strikeouts while hitting a double and a pair of home runs in a dominating 11-0 win.

Other multi hit performances came from Shewchuk, Evans, and Quewezance as all have hit the ball with authority the entire season. Logan Parachoniak, Phil Sobkow, Tanner Melnychuk, Jorden Cherewyk, and Sean Kolodziejski each had one hit as the Supers combined for fourteen.

The game was blown open early with five runs in the first, two in the seconds, and one in the third for an 8-0 lead. Three more runs in the sixth was icing on the cake as the Supers clinched their first regular season pennant in ten years in the 2009 season.

With the win the Supers are now 10-2 on the season, and finish up the regular seeason vs the Willowbrook Royals on Wednesday, July 3 at 6:15 PM at Al Sapieha Field
