Shewchuk Dominant in Roblin
Posted June 6, 2017
Tuesday June 6, 2017 was a night to remember for the Supers in Roblin as a mostly lacklustre, frustrating game with the bats turned into a thrilling 5-3 victory with one swing. Kholton Shewchuk of Rama delivered a go-ahead grand slam home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to give the Supers a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish. Not only did Shewchuk hit the winning grand slam, but also pitched a complete game giving up just three runs, four hits with six strikeouts to record the win. It was a performance of the ages right up there with Travis Mentanko's 2015 playoff series clinching three home run, ten rbi performance vs Swan River
Stars pitcher Greg Clark pitched a dandy of a game but a fielding error in the seventh inning allowed for one more opportunity that Shewchuk took full advantage of. The Supers defence was excellent on the evening committing zero errors with highlight reel plays from Parkland Expos callups Zach Goulden-Maddin at shortstop and Jett Stechyshyn at second base. Both made their Supers season debuts and it was Jett's first ever game as a Super.
Maddin set the table with two hits and a run scored in four at bats. Tannum Wyonzek also had two hits and a run scored, while Terry Cumming had the other Supers hit. Stechyshyn got on base twice via a walk and fielders choice but was able to score both times.
The Supers record improves to 6-2-1 on the season and are on a collision course with the perennial SESBL front running Yorkton Yankees on Thursday, June 8 at 8PM in Yorkton in what should be a good contest.
